Obama Gays

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama is reaffirming his campaign pledge to end the ban on homosexuals serving openly in the military.

Obama told thousands gathered at the annual dinner of the Human Rights Campaign in Washington on Saturday night, that he’ll end “don’t ask-don’t tell.” That got him a standing ovation from the gay civil rights advocacy group. But he offered no timetable or specifics for acting on the promise.

The president also acknowledged that some policy changes he promised are not coming as quickly as they expected. But, as he put it, “Do not doubt the direction we are heading and the destination we will reach.”

The president called on Congress to repeal the Defense Of Marriage Act, which limits how state, local and federal bodies can recognize partnerships and determine benefits.

Obama also expressed his strong support for the Human Rights Campaign agenda — ending discrimination against gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people, but stopped short of laying out a detailed plan for how to get there.

As a former member of the USAF I can tell you, this will be terrible for morale. This is a political move for Obama since this absolutely adds no value to the military whatsoever..All you need is to have two homo soldiers walking down the street hand in hand to get the whole military ridiculed…The way they brainwash those soldiers, they won’t be reacting to well to being called homo or f****t!!!…@ Jazz, it doesn’t make my boil one bit, I knew in the interest of political expediency, Obama wasn’t going to even give the appearance he was going to help out Black people. Why should he, every other Pres has s**tted on black voters, yet foolish black people run in droves to support the next democrat running for office! We never hold anyone accountable, therefore, these people do nothing for us and rightfully so! I have to give him credit though, he did support the Black farmers who proved they were discriminated against..I should probably study that case before speaking on it, because there were probably some underlying details to that case that undermines what appears to be a good deed!

QUIT!!!! comparing African American actual neglect, abuse, SLAVERY, to something that at best sex based AND THAT”S IT to 400 plus years of ACTUAL struggle. Most people in this country could less about these folks practices or agendas, but it keeps getting forced on everyone. If you are truly happy being homosexual than you don’t need my opinion or anyone else’s let alone laws to reaffirm you position whose only difference is base on bedroom activities. This is actually a euro centric activity, which means most probably do enjoy more than theirs share of rights already.

I wish people would stop asking President Obama to give a damn time table. Known of this would have happened if America has smartened up instead of re-electing Bush. Stop putting the blame on the damn president! He didn’t create these issues.

These are the words of Coretta Scott King. And let us never forget the man behind MLK, Bayard Rustin.

“I still hear people say that I should not be talking about the rights of lesbian and gay people and I should stick to the issue of racial justice. But I hasten to remind them that Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

“I appeal to everyone who believes in Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream to make room at the table of brother- and sisterhood for lesbian and gay people.”

“We have to launch a national campaign against homophobia in the black community.”

“Homophobia is like racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people, to deny their humanity, their dignity and personhood. This sets the stage for further repression and violence that spread all too easily to victimize the next minority group.”

here we go again with the phobia slurr, when people do buy into something that only 1 group believes in, again if you happy with yourself fine, but do not beat up on everyone else and start calling people names for their believes in the Bible which teaches something different for centuries and has been a guide for millions of people. Gays are do no more or less extra than blacks, but to compare situations to our condition is just silly just because of what is done sexually different. If you are truly happy, then it should not matter what others think…This is American and we have the right to choose to accept and not each others behaviors,

With all due respect to the CIC, there are gays who serve proudly in our Armed Forces for decades and many of them do a great job everyday. But many are ignorant to the fact that there is no Federal Law that states gays are not allowed to serve in our nations military. The Law prohibits anyone from asking if a person is gay or that individual telling or revealing that he or she is gay (Don’t ask, Don’t tell). This law fully protects all and has for decades provided a legal way for gays to serve. If I was walking in a bar and I wanted to let a woman know I wanted her or was going to proposition her, I would reveal to her my identity as a heterosexual man by telling her my intentions. On the other hand if I was there to just have a good time and enjoy drinks, the music and scenery..I would just keep my damn mouth shut.
The point is: the military already has a law that let gays serve and I see no reason why any gay would want to openly reveal their preference and hurt the morale of the troops just to let the world know that he or she is “out of the closet”(that mentality is for the civilian world who don’t live by military standards or rely heavily on team/group success as oppose to individual wants and desires). I say “If It Aint Broke, Don’t fix it!!!
Like many Americans, i come to work occasionally and wish I was anywhere but at work, but I’m never asked where I really want to be and I dont tell because why hurt the moral of my co-workers who are focused on the daily mission (and I should be also).
Many Liberals are pressing the CIC to change DODT..but unfortunately, some of them are the last ones to join the military and often are the ones on college campuses and anti-military protest who spit on military Recruiters and burn American Flags.
On the other hand..the majority of your military forces are filled with troops from conservative, middle-American Christian towns with Christian values and still have not accepted this lifestyle as normal, but are the folks willing to shed blood for this great country on behalf of the values and norms that this country has possessed over the years. In due time, this gay lifestyle will become accepted and considered part of the norm..but the time is too premature and many in the ranks are not ready for this policy change, especially now with soaring suicide and divorce rates among heterosexuals(Remember..Gays divorce and are promiscuous and have domestic disputes and commit emotional crimes also, which the media fails to reveal). Let the military get a handle on heterosexual relations first and the suicide problem..then take some years down the road to let the military have a real honest debate about this issue and assess if this is the right path to take.

Its fine if you believe in the bible. I, nor anyone I know is not trying to take it away from you. Some people to this day believe that black slaves shouldn’t have been freed because in their interpretation of the bible, they decided that slavery is a good and just thing. So while its fine to allow the bible to guide you in your personal life, it isn’t good to use in deciding laws. If that were the case, we’d be shaving the hair off of every woman’s head who didn’t cover her hair in church.

Corinthinians 11:5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
11:6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.

I think everyone should have the right to feel whatever they want about gays or blacks or whoever, but there shouldn’t be laws prohibiting them from being on equal footing with others.

And btw, there are black GLBT people. Just because they’re glbt doesn’t make them any less black. There were black glbts who suffered just as much (if not more) in slavery, during Jim Crow, and in the fight for civil rights. Read up on Bayard Rustin. Hes the civil rights movement best kept secret.

DemocraticCitizen that is not what that bible scripture means, it just shows your lack of insight to try and state something you dont have the intelligence to quote.

Bible Law is the only Law… Land Laws are just the authority of “men” Biblical Law is the authority of “GOD”

Now to explain correctly what the scripture says in 1 Corithians Chapter 11 verse 5-6

Verse 5″But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven”. It is simply saying in this verse that every woman who prays or prophesy, that if she does it with a shaven head, that she dishonors her husband, the counter balance to her husband which would have a uncovered head.

Verse 6 “For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.” If a woman dont have no “hair” let her be proud, and if she be shame, wear a hat or a wig.

If u are going to quote the bible make sure u know what u talking about thats why we have so many confused people in this world today, buy a book on hermanutics to help you understand…And by the way… Real Blacks Aint Demokkkrats

Thats what I’m talking about Da_J_Rok

We’re all capable of picking up the bible and making any kind of claim we’d like. Its been done for hundreds of years and its done hundreds of times a day. And your interpretation still doesn’t move me. You’ve just proved my point. Taken at face value the passage says what it says. But I guess it all comes down to picking and choosing and interpreting. Just imagine where we’d be now if Fredrick Douglass (and all other slaves) had heeded the bible’s advice on how a slave should respect their master. Teach me about these verses.

Slaves, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, in singleness of heart, as you obey Christ; not only while being watched, and in order to please them, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart. (Eph. 6:5-6)

Tell slaves to be submissive to their masters and to give satisfaction in every respect; they are not to talk back, not to pilfer, but to show complete and perfect fidelity, so that in everything they may be an ornament to the doctrine of God our Savior. (Titus 2:9-10)

Slaves, accept the authority of your masters with all deference, not only those who are kind and gentle but also those who are harsh. For it is a credit to you if, being aware of God, you endure pain while suffering unjustly. If you endure when you are beaten for doing wrong, what credit is that? But if you endure when you do right and suffer for it, you have God’s approval. (1Pet. 2:18-29)

Slave/Servant/Employee in bible terms mean people who “WORK” and Master means Owner/Husbandman/Employer, not to be mistaken with “Oppression” physical and emotional harm. The bible was translated into “English” in 1611 we as Americans speak a version of English which is not how they originally spoke, which is why Europeans turn their nose up at Americans.

To briefly sum all those scriptures up, if u work for someone do your job, the way they instruct you to do so, and if what they telling you to do is contrary to “God’s Word” then you dont have to do it, and if they make you suffer for this cause, then God will have favor with you for being obedient to him.

The democrats have so brainwashed us that we’re doubting the verasity of our heterosexuality. Blacks have traditionally voted demodummy, with the mistaken belief that it will make our lives easier, but in reality we hve been brainwashed into acccepting ideological positions we would never normally accept. After all these years of voting demodummy, how has your life improved? The republicans are the same f**king way! Yall just keep watching BET, and accepting welfare like the dems want. I woke up in the 8th grade, and dropped the demodummy tag. Next they’ll be taking YOUR kids to gay and lesbian weddings as a field trip like they did in NY! Wake the f**k up people!

I am sick of people with personal agendas (trying to get their 15 minutes of fame) turning simple issues into civil and racial issues. Most Soldiers discharged from service probably used the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy as a means to escape their military contractual obligations (mainly Iraq and Afghanistan deployments). The policy in itself is a simple one…the military will not, at any time, ask you about your sexual orientation as a factor in allowing you to join the service, nor as a factor to disqualify or discharge you while serving…IF you do not engage in, display, solicit, or openly profess homosexuality. It’s simple. The military says that sexual preference is a “personal and private” matter which should not be a factor for service. If you choose to make your personal and private matters open to public scrutiny, you should not later complain about discrimination or any other backlash resulting from it, and you should be willing to accept the consequences of your disclosures. Since Gay Marriage is not legal, there is no reasonable logic behind being openly homosexual. If ‘life partners’ could obtain military benefits through marriage, there would actually be a legitimate argument for overturning the policy.
