I swear we need better doctors and nurses…. and just better medical staff period because I’m studying to be a doctor myself and I can’t tell you how many mistakes that I catch medical staff making when it comes to taking care of their patients. You have to make sure that they are doing everything right because if you don’t stay on them they will make little mistakes here or there with the idea that your stupid anyway being just a patient and those little mistakes can cost you your life…. thats so tragic though..

this MUST have happened in Cali because MANY people have died IN their emergency rooms. And no matter how you PLEA and beg or how much PAIN you are in.. these people do not give a DAMN! I remember I sat in the waiting room at Harbor UCLA for 8 hours with NO assistance. I could no longer take the pain standing so I went home. DID YOU KNOW I was not seen but these bastards sure did send me a BILL for $1000! They cant see you but they know how to bill and collect that money though! I told them I wasn’t giving them SHT!

The hospital where i am had my sister waiting for almost an hour… Wait it was an hour. She was worried that the baby wasn’t getting enough oxygen cuz she had an asthma attack the night before the next day she didnt feel the baby move so she went to the hospital… They knew what the deal was and they had her sitting out there for an hour instead of putting her in a room to get her monitored… I knew one of these days some crap like this was goin to happen and that is sad…. Just like i told my friend that night ” Wa kinda bloodclot operation dis dey runnin?”

CHA CHING got dammit homegirl about to get paid once she get herself together that got to be hell going to the hospital to have your baby and get treated like that and when she do get herself together her and anymore kids she decide to have going to be set for life my kids kids kids would be alright

Whether she gets paid from this or not, there’s not enough money in the world to replace the true value of her baby.

If it’s a public hospital of course the ER is going to be busy and one of the ONLY ones in that county? It’s no excuse for the staff to take for ever but why on earth would they just get up and leave the hospital? We can make a fuss and scene over absurd things in life…but when it comes to urgent matters you’ll juts walk away and deal w/ it later?

The saddest thing is that this sort of thing happens all the time at alot of public city hospitals! No pregnant woman should be ignored at a hospital that she comes to seeking help for herself or her unborn child! They need to fire those workers and implement new policies for the future to avoid this kind of tragedy. Hospital workers need to be trained in customer care.

Absolutely ridiculous! Stuff like this is why I hate going to hospitals. First of all, when a pregnant woman comes into the ER complaining of pain and/or bleeding she is suppose to be seen immediately! Those 6 people that let that woman sit there and suffer and then ended up losing her child are heartless and deserve the maximum punishment allowed by law. This just breaks my heart and makes me angry at how cruel and hateful people can be!

NOW THAT IS RIDICULOUS!!! HOW CAN YOU BE 6 MONTHS PREGNANT AND NOT KNOW?!?

She only complained of severe stomach pain….
Yall know in the E.R. pain alone will not get you special treatment…

Now, I’m not excusing their staff, cuz we all know they do some dirty sh*t.

My mom had a heart transplant last year, and she had to use her knowledge and authority as a R.N. supervisor to keep the staff on point and get the proper treatment. Who knows what kind of care she would’ve got if she wasn’t a nurse…

But in this case, it sounds more like an under-staffed hospital following protocol, rather than out right neglect…

Whoever reported this needs some classes in journalism, cuz they didn’t report the whole story..

Then again, the more stories I read on this site, the more it seems like these writers are trying to incite the readers…

This is so surreal.. The very place people should feel safe, they are ignored until their unborn baby dies? What kind of sh** is that? I don’t know what kind of condition the mother and father were in, but I would have demanded attention and acted a damn fool.. That hospital definitely needs to pay up. :(

This story is outrageous and I have heard of this happening in many other hospitals across the United States. I know for a fact when I was seven and half months pregnant with my daughter I had to be taken to the ER for being in pre-term labor and considering the symptoms I explained I was seen immediately. Regardless, if the woman knew she was pregnant or didn’t know she was pregnant if she was bleeding or in severe pain she should have been seen. There should never be a reason that someone sits in any ER for a long period time and then leave because they were there so long without any assistance. This is like the woman who died in an ER waiting room because she waited so long to be seen. This is a disgrace and this needs to be addressed but the workers of this ER should be fired.

Was this because she was pregnant or a minority, or both. It is common knowledge that if you are a minority and needing emergency care at an ER you best get ready to wait anywhere from 3 to at least 7 hours unless you situation is life threatening. And if you are minority get ready to wait to die. You almost have to cuss the staff out to get seen. They are all sitting on there azzes or talking on the phone. I’ve seen it happen. I had an infected wound that needed to be cleaned and stitched back up, nothing life threatening but uncomfortable as hell. And these mofos was just sitting around doing nothing. I had to go off on someone and then I get this young white wench telling me to calm down the doctor is taken care of someone else. I’m like this hospital only has one friggin doctor on staff. But guess what I got a $2000.00 bill for my trouble. You see they charge you to sit in the waiting room for hours.

I hope this Abney woman sues for the dreams of those incompetent azzholes unborn children. Because she deserves every cent. Millions upon millions of dollars

I agree with sef_ali. I knew there had to be more to this story & yes the journalists who report this crap is really doing a disservice to their readers. I dont know if they believe that we’re too ignorant to read & have questions or if they just dont care but from reading so many of these comments, maybe they are right. Maybe the readers are too ignorant to actually question what they are reading or do minor research on the stories that interest them. Is this what we blacks have come to? The problem isn’t the patients these days its the people working in the medical field who fail to realize its not about them its about the people in need. First of all sef_ali, not ALL women knows that she is pregnant. Every woman’s pregnancy is different. She might not experience ANY symptoms or any abnormalities. Most journalists use a technique where they have titles that will grab a person into wanting to read the story and of course the whole story is never told. Who are we to judge the parents!!!!! That is unfair because YOU do NOT know anything about the future. She might not have be knowledgable but the hospital made a bad call. They make decisions everyday some work out well while others are tragic. That is why ALL medical personnel has malpractice insurance because they are NOT GOD, they are human and we all make mistakes. We can’t just automatically assume that the child would have lived a horrible life. The most painful thing is that a mother has lost her child. Unbearable pain but the baby is in the best place…with GOD. Think before you judge because there is ALWAYS 2 sides to a story.

My uncle’s Catheter was filling with his BLOOD as he sat in the Emergency Room at Charity Hospital back home (New Orleans) and was not being taken particularly seriously either, but.. I KICKED IN some doors and GOT him the attention he needed!! The nurse told me that she was glad that I did what I did to save him! See? THAT’S how you get things done! Sad.. :-/

Unfortunately, you do sometimes have to get LOUD up in a hospital to get helped. Remember that scene in “Terms of Endearment” when Shirley Maclaine is yelling at the nurse to PLEASE GIVE HER DAUGHTER THE DAMN SHOT!!!!? Well, I had to actually go through that when my grandma was dying of cancer. I’ll spare you the gory details, but I did have to demonstrate just how serious I was about making sure my grandmother didn’t suffer in silence.

Now here’s some real for you. I hope you can deal with real ’cause it ain’t pretty: The getting loud thing is only going to work for so much longer, I’m afraid, because there will probably be police up in the ER waiting for you to get loud so they taze/beatdown/shoot you and/or haul your black ass off to jail pretty soon, if they aren’t in there already. Depends on where you live, I suppose. I suggest that you have a phone number ready to call in case of Emergency. I’m not talking about 911. I’m talking about “I’ve got a situation here and I need your help.” This number should be somebody who can grease the wheels for you and get things going. Maybe somebody on the hospital board. Somebody with money. Preferably somebody white and male, but if you know a rich white woman with juice, go for it. Get this number printed on a card and get this card laminated so it doesn’t get ruined. You think I’m joking? A card just like that saved my brother’s life once. Now, that’s real. Deal with it.

sef_ali Im with you on this one…Now Im not saying the hospital was justified or any of that..not at all…Anytime someone comes in for care they should be seen. Being is that I have worked in hospitals in patient care, and I still do work in the field…There are certain types of protocol we MUST follow. The point im getting at is this…If the woman didnt know she was pregnant(I dont believe that at all!), and she called it stomach pains, then the hospital will take it as stomach pains not associated with anything else at the time. Meaning if she had stomach pains which are serious, BUT if there is someone who had a heart attack/ someone has been shot, someone had an accident at work, bleeding profusely…then guess what…they come FIRST. Again im not giving the hospital a way out…NOT AT ALL. The woman should have been seen to, atleast sent off for some tests to be run, anything, SOMETHING should have been done. I just dont beleive she was 6 months pregnant and didnt know it…and I only say that because I have tended to young women who are pregnant, full well know they are pregnant but havent told anyone about it for fear of being left, for fear of their parents, boyfriend might leave them etc…It is a shame that the couple did nothing to change the situation as well, i.e. get a lil loud, make a lil fuss etc…they just went home and that was it???

SoularFlarez, i agree with you, a license mid-wife is all I won’t, health insurance or not these hopsitals just don’t give a rats a** about you. If you are black and look, or smell uninsured you could be bleeding from your head and they would take the insured white person with a hangnail quicker. I don’t mess with these hopitals and emergency rooms.

Okay for one, it is possible to be pregnant and not know it. Its so common that they even have a t.v. show on a&e about women who were pregnant and didnt know it! My first cousin was pregnant with her child and didnt know it until she was 6 months and went to the Dr. for a routine check-up! I was pregnant with my 2nd child and didnt know it until I was 4 months but had not missed on period but started feeling slight movements in my tummy. Secondly, I know from personal experience that it is possible to be in the emergency room an be totally ignored. Now I dont know the whole story on this particular situation so I cant comment but it is a tragedy and my condolences to the fam. Swaggalicious I’m with you on this one. People can always talk about there’s no way that this or that could be possible and are always judging people. For that I say, Jesus walked on water, was that not possible? I saw the headline to this article and I had to double check if it was my local ER. Centra Health, which is our local health care monopoly is so bad that you usually have to wait an hour or two just to be TRIAGED, getting into the back takes typically 3 to 6 hours. Getting seen by a doctor can take even more, and then unless you’ve got bones sticking out (doesn’t matter if you’re dying) they might treat you. Once I went in with an allergic reaction, going into anaphylactic shock and they told me to go sit in the waiting room, that it wasn’t an emergency. I ended up telling them to f*k themselves and drove myself to the next town and the ER there took me right back and got the swelling down and my breathing back to normal.
Of course Centra loves to tell everyone how wonderful they are and how much they care about their “customers” (like I had much choice). What’s really sad is that in this area if you’re on medicaid there is no urgent care facility, you HAVE to go to the ER and then they are like “all these po people need to quit goin to the ER for everything”. Yeah, like we have a choice. I can’t hop a bus to the next town to use their urgent care place, they don’t go there. Oh, I suppose I could just take a cab, oh wait – I don’t have money for that. Oh well I guess I’ll just sit here in the ER waiting room until morning and then if I can still move I’ll drag myself onto the bus and go to the regular doctor as a walk-in where I’ll wait for hours there to be seen. Ah shucks, they’ve stopped taking walk-ins, they say to go to the ER. Wait a minute, didn’t I just come from there?
And that brings up another hot topic: is Obamacare going to change this?
