School board President Deb Mexicotte said in a statement Wednesday the “Lunch Bunch” at Dicken Elementary, aimed at improving standardized test scores of African American students, was “well-intentioned,” but also violated the district’s anti-discrimination policy.

See. this is how these well intentioned programs render themselves counterproductive. HELL, take the damn white kids to meet him too, so they can see we are more than just Lil Wayne and Kobe. This is why these educators are some of the most uneducated people in the system. They all have book knowledge coupled with VERY LITTLE common sense. Don’t they realize that White Supremacy stems from WHITE PEOPLE THINKING THEY ARE THE ONLY ONE’S WHO CAN BE AMONG OTHER THINGS, ROCKET SCIENTISTS?

I agree. Kids are kids. The more positive they see the better. Too bad our black doctors, entrepreneuers, and rocket scientists don’t get the exposure that our mc’s do…

    _A_,
Hmmmm, I’m kinda teeter tottering on this one. I dont fully agree with you. True, all children need to know that success doesnt just mean one color, but on the other hand, what is so wrong about our children meeting and learning about a black rocket scientist sans the white kids? Now I believe I get what youre saying though..”Just take the white kids along if it means our black kids dont miss out period.”. I gotcha there, (hope that was a correct assessment), but my mind is sick of all this integration crap. What has it done for us besides give a bunch of people the clear conscience and NOT get murdered for sleeping with someone of another race..Big freakin deal!

And before anyone comes at me with that ole, civil rights bidness, stop it right there, civil rights had NOTHING to do with integration, matter of fact it wasnt civil rights we were fighting for, it was HUMAN rights to be exact…

It has weakened and ruined us as a whole and this is just ANOTHER way for white people to say..”No, you blacks will NEVER seperate yourselves and possibly hit a higher plateau than where we are”. I mean damn, when are white folks going to leave us alone? Sheesh! I think the parents of those black children along with any of the staff of the school that cares, should get together a PRIVATE trip for those same black kids to STILL go on that trip WITHOUT THOSE WHITE KIDS!

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/_A_/ _A_

CaliFemme23. I’m not advocating for integration, but we have to realize that white supremacy ideology affects white people as well. When they walk around thinking they gave the world math and science and have been the only people advancing civilization, it gives them a false sense of entitlement. This stems from pure ignorance. This is why, you will find the 3 tooth, overall wearing, tobacco chewing, trailer park living, white trash still feeling as though he is better than civilized black folk because the truth is, he hasn’t been taught these things about black people either. So while this was important for the black children, it’s just as important for white children to see, that we are more than just dunking basketballs and making records. If we want respect from these people, the ONLY way it will come is by them seeing positive images of US. Obviously, this is of paramount importance to us as well. Don’t get me wrong, this is not to gain any favor or acceptance, but rather to SHOW AND PROVE that our people are not what you think they are!

_A_, ” but rather to SHOW AND PROVE that our people are not what you think they are!”

Hmmm, see we see that different. I never felt like I had to prove anything to the white race. The reason why they fight us so hard is because they ALREADY KNOW! I mean if you really think someone is inferior to you, do you make it your lifes work to prove it? We have come way past the days of showing and proving anything to them. They can keep on thinking whatever they think about the black race as far as I’m concerned. Its only important for our children to know who we were, are and will be. I dont even want respect from those people. Once again, we are past all that, its time to do for SELF, you know, like they been doing all this time and not giving a damn about whoelse exists on the earth? If all of the inventions that are to our credit, math, sciences, architecture and the first straigns of government hasnt proven to them, then let us leave them in that darkness. I want our kids educated and knowledgable…

Like ya boy Khalid M. said…”The man left in the dark is the one you can easily pass by”…I have no problem easily walking past those savages…

True, you would think that parents could just take the kids themselves, and I also fail to see how kids of all races could not benefit from seeing a black scientist. But regardless, this isn’t the eastside of Detroit, Ann Arbor is a fairly well-to-do upper middle class community across the board with an excellent school district. These aren’t kids growing up seeing poverty, degradation, and hopelessness on a daily basis. I can understand the need for such a program, I just fail to see how it would be needed there.

SoularFlarez, THANK YOU! Thats exactly what I said in my first post…Damn the school district, those parents should gas up the ole minivans and camry’s to take the kids anyway!

A school is a school for ALL students, no matter their race…From the break, this trip was doomed (even though I’m glad they took it lol).

    @CaliFemme23 (and others)
As for the anti-integration stance, I just needed to point out that this is a HUGE country. Every single state has different dynamics. Within those states, the communities have even more differences. What may work in your mind, where you live, may have no type of bearing on the reality for the next Black person. You (and others) say integration was a bad thing, and that we, as Blacks, have lost something in the process, but that’s assuming that we would have been better off if segregation was in full-effect. That’s a crazy-HUGE assumption right there.

Blacks *could* be better off, and all be intelligent, forward-thinking, contributing members to society..but just as easily, we could have the same problems we have now.

Just a few issues I have:
If we didn’t integrate, how many race-wars would this country have gone through? Would the casualties from the (probable) constant middle-east type conflicts in our cities/countryside be ‘worth’ it?
If we didn’t integrate, would the U.S. be ANY type of Super Power (military, technological, entertainment, etc)?
Further, if we didn’t integrate, this country may have been called “New Germany” or “Second Russia”…and then, we’d lose our identities all over again…or just be exterminated..

Please don’t stretch this to assume I’m advocating a “Thank and praise the Whites for everything they’ve done for us” movement, either..

I’m just saying that history played out a certain way, and if everything didn’t happen as it did, we HAVE NO IDEA what the consequences would have been. Every “the grass would have been greener if…” statement is a dream, simple as that.

I’m not saying people shouldn’t put their kids in all-Black schools or only live in all-Black communities, either (matter of fact, I love all-Black enterprises/schools/communities/etc, and I pray that they continue to flourish)…

I’m just saying that I know we, as a People, have the strength to make it through whatever struggle comes up, no matter whether we stand next to a White person or never see one at all. It’s just that a lot of us don’t want to/don’t know how to work hard to get passed our individual roadblocks..

One last point – I keep hearing people say/type that Blacks are begging White people to accept them by working with Whites or hanging out with Whites…I take grave offense to that. Plus, I just think it’s pretty ignorant to call out people whose circ**stances you know nothing about..

Case in point, I was in all Honors/AP course growing up…Never had more than 1 other Black person in my classes, if that. NEVER. From middle school to 5 years of college (AA&BA). NEVER. The only time I saw people with skin like mine was when I played varsity basketball/baseball/football/track. I NEVER once gave up my race to be accepted by ‘them’ in class though. Almost every single paper I ever wrote was Black culture-related (English major, so I’ve written more than 40 papers for school). I went in, did the work, and moved on to the next level. I’ve had tenured professors read my papers and state that “it changed the way [he] thought about [the topic] and [he'd] be teaching the class a different way from now on.” And honestly, I wasn’t really that smart naturally lol..I just knew that I wasn’t, and that made me work harder..and now I’m drafting letters and reports to the President..(should be working on one right now, actually)

I refuse to accept or believe that any Man, let alone “The White Man” has the strength to keep us down. Period. I refuse to accept that Blacks (on the whole) can’t survive/succeed exponentially without altering history to make it ‘easier.’ I KNOW we can. The proof is EVERYWHERE.

Seriously, if anyone wants to know who held me down more than anyone/anything else…it’s the same guy who’s typing this comment. My experiences lead me to believe that most of the population have similar feelings, if they’re being totally honest.

and yea, that was crazy long..but I needed to get that out.

    Well said CaliFemme23.

Our problem isn’t getting them to respect/except/like us. That’s the mindset of an integrationist, which like you said got us nowhere.

Our problem is POWER. If we had Black Power, it wouldnt matter who liked or disliked us. They wouldn’t have the ability to carry out what we call “racism”.

The only way we are going to get respected, if that matters to you, by the other peoples of the world is when we stand up as MEN and WOMEN, and be a Soveriegn, Self-Determining, Productive People again, and stop groveling under the boot of white power trying to integrate into another man’s house. As long as you live under another man’s roof you are not a man but a boy. He is the man not you because its HIS house.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/MAJESTIK7/ MAJESTIK7

But as far the article, if its a public school, you can’t just take the black kids and exclude others. This why we must have Independent schools and if our kids must go to the public schools, we must have our own prgrams outside of that. Our own Saturday Schools, after schools programs, etc.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/phazex_female/ phazex_female

At the end of the day?

“The people who have the ability to eliminate Racism do not have the WILL to do so, and,the people who have the will to do so, do not have the ABILITY.”

Truer words were never spoken by Dr. Neely Fuller, Jr.

Public schooling has always left the fate of our youngsters right into the hands of the euro-clowns. Think about it. It was never meant to education black children, thus the CONTINUAL face of what we see today in the urban to ghetto arenas–ALWASYS “the struggle for money.” You see, money is still relatively “new” to black folks for the euro-clowns have ALWAYS had access to it.

See, TOO MANY of our black people are [economic] slaves because they lack the “killer-instinct” and “devil-may-care” attitude of the Caucausian, as well as the “spider web economic mentality” of the Asian. In a step towards black economic stability and self sufficiency, THIS process continues to be slow BECAUSE MANY OF OUR PEOPLE HAVE NOT BEEN TAUGHT TO BE “HUNGRY.”

It is a fact that our black people face more adversity and racism than other races. Yet other races running up in here (Amerikka) come with a purpose. To GET some of the money of the euro-clowns. And until WE get hungry? We will not be an independent people. Again, we are viewed as merely “consumers and laborers” at the end of the day.

I give “less than a rat’s ARSE” if you do not like me or black people if the truth be told. Blacks have the intellect and ingenuity to get ON the chess-board. The problem for our people, is learning how to interact collectively in making critical and strategic moves to catapult US to position and “Check-mate.”

Remember, “power only respects power and NOT weakness.”

Note that many of us “are not hungry” because we have not been taught. And common-sense dictates that the blind cannot lead the blind. I have never advocated de-facto segregated “public” schooling for black children. Black children should be taught and supervised by black scholars. We live in a land where the call of the day is to learn THEIR history, achievements, etc. and not that of our own. And, until we realize WHY we see the “exchange of negative behaviors between our black people” that we see on the daily? And efforts are made to de-program our people by challenging white supremacy (but WE as a people must stand in correctness) the struggle continues…

Nothing is impossible and it can be done.
