Queens Teen Fatally Shot 11 Times By NYPD

NEW YORK — A teenager killed in a confrontation with New York City police over the weekend was shot 11 times, the medical examiner’s office said Sunday.
Dashawn Vasconcellos, 18, died of gunshot wounds to the torso, neck and extremities, medical examiner spokeswoman Ellen Borakove said. Police fired a total of 14 times, chief NYPD spokesman Paul J. Browne said.
According to an autopsy completed late Sunday, Vasconcellos had three gunshot wounds in the middle of his back, five in his right side and three on his left side, Borakove said. Five police bullets were recovered during the autopsy, she said.
Vasconcellos and two others were spotted leaving a city park in Queens at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday by four officers in an unmarked car. Vasconcellos ran and was pursued by three officers. He then turned and pointed a 9mm semiautomatic pistol at them, Browne said.
“They ordered him to drop the gun, and he did not comply. Three officers fired a total of 14 shots,” Browne said.
Vasconcellos, who was also carrying a boxcutter, did not fire his gun. He was pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital.
The men with Vasconcellos, who did not flee police, have been questioned by officers. It’s unclear why the men were in the park after hours.
Fatal police-involved shootings have led to protests in New York City and prosecutions of police officers.
In 2008, a judge acquitted three police officers in the fatal shooting of Sean Bell, an unarmed man killed in a 50-shot barrage on his wedding day. Bell was killed outside a strip club on Nov. 25, 2006, as he was leaving his bachelor party. Undercover officers investigating reports of prostitution at the club said they thought one of the men in Bell’s group had a gun.
Ten years ago, 22-year-old Amadou Diallo was killed when he was struck 19 times by 41 bullets fired by police officers who mistook his wallet for a gun. The officers were acquitted in the February 1999 fatal shooting of the African immigrant.

That is EXACTLY why i dont f*** with NEW YORK cuz tha cops are full of s**t and it amazes me how the people in New York got all tha attitude and stuck up, but yet everytime you look at the news somebody ass is being tampered with or somebody done died from being shot multiple times………WTF? HEY NEW YORK, THOUGHT YALL GO SO HARD……YEA RIGHT
Seems to me like NY residents may need to start looking into future judges for the bench that will uphold the law more fairly. Obviously the current judges in place don’t have a problem acquitting cops that have murdered innocent (due to mistaken identity being that we all look alike)/ unarmed brothers. I do understand that according to the story that this young man brandished a handgun. However, and please correct me if I’m wrong but an officer’s life is not is not in danger if he has to shoot the suspect in the back.
It never amazes me how people find ways to denounce criminal activity. First off, in no way am I supporting either side. Cops kill people and people also kill cops. Its not one sided. The media of course pushes these stories at us in the urban setting. It only adds to the turmoil between citizens and officers. But that’s another story. Now this dude had a gun and a boxcutter on him. Are those not crimes? The police had 3 men in custody which means.. that kid ran from the police. Is that not a crime? Personally if a cop tells me to freeze when I’m innocent, why run? BUT since we hear that the cops shot someone, some of us automatically think about Diallo and Bell, and assume that Vasconcellos is innocent as well. If he had used that gun to shot someone random, he wouldn’t be getting any remorse, now would he? BUT that’s also another story.
Like I said though, I’m not taking any sides. The only people that KNOW for sure what happened, were the people that were there. The rest of us just have to go on what the media reports to us.
My kids better be home dat time of nite, especially at 18. Where were his parents? My condolences goes out to da family, but this could have been avoided.

And the madness continues..
To those who said the police had a right to fire, thats bulls***, This young man was shot in the back for all we know they could had place that gun in his hands seeing how f***ed up the police system is in New York!
Hey Kingpin72, I just read a related article about the BART officer that shot Oscar Grant in Oakland. He has been charged with murder and will stand trial in L.A. so there won’t be a conflict of interest. As for this latest NYPD incident, it’s sad, but kind of expected. Also the victim wasn’t totally innocent. He did allegedly have a gun and a box cutter.
“TOP TEN” DOES ANYBODY KNOW ABOUT THE YOUNG UNARMED BROTHER “OSCAR GRANT” IN OAKLAND SHOT IN THE BACK WHILE LAYING ON THE GROUND BY BART POLICE….CAPTURED ON VIDEO BY A HALF DOZEN WITNESSES…….THAT SHOULD BE “NUMERAL UNO”…AND THIS JUST HAPPENED LESS THAN A YEAR AGO….
someone mentioned common sense??? well Lakerdude, lets use your theory. If the cops did everything by the book and the shots “turned him around” how come there are no shots to his chest???? If he turned and pointed a gun at the cops, wouldn’t there at least be shots to the chest initially, that would then cause him to turn around as you say, and then receive those other wounds?? next time, before talking about common sense, you should start off by applying some! A little more common sense for you…who is going to stop, turn around, point a gun, but NOT shoot? did he really think he was going to scare them with that. NYPD have to always try to justify their actions, so whether its a street vendor “reaching for his wallet” or a guy sitting in his car about to get married in a few hours, “looking like he has a gun,” the NYPD and their union lawyers are always ready with their standard BS justification. Bottom line is, none of us were there, and the NYPD has a long history of not only these type of shootings, but also of ridiculous, foolish and downright silly explanations, that some fall for every time.
what ever happened to shooting in the leg?
ok we get the point he had a gun…now really did they had to shoot him to death? hell no. this kind of crap gets to me…how can their be tapes and the judge still let em walk free…i guess wen u have a badge and gun ur god.
Fire_Born is right, this guy pulled a gun on the cops and wouldn’t submit… of course the police had to shoot him.
Maatra, I don’t know about you, but if I’ve been shot, I’m not going to stand there motionless, common sense says he moved around… but I wouldn’t expect you to use common sense.
I smell a BIG A$$ POLICE LIE…I agree with you maatra and I would like to know the answer to that question, too!

Uhmm he had a gun, he pointed at the police officers…. Please don’t relate this story to Sean Bell and Amadou Diallo
