UPDATE: Suspect Admits To Taking Shaniya Davis

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – A search warrant says a man charged with kidnapping a 5-year-old North Carolina girl who was later found dead told police he took the girl to the hotel where she was last seen alive.

Multiple media reported the search warrant says 29-year-old Mario McNeill told investigators he took Shaniya (shuh-NY-uh) Davis last week from her home in Fayetteville to a hotel in Sanford, about 35 miles away.

The girl’s body was found Monday off a road near Sanford.

Antoinette Davis is charged with trafficking her daughter and child abuse involving prostitution.

Police say they collected hair and fibers, clothes, and a straw from McNeill‘s 1997 Mitsubishi Galant.

Police said Wednesday no additional charges will be filed until jurisdiction questions are resolved.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The aunt of a 5-year-old girl whose body was found off a rural North Carolina road said Tuesday that she had a hard time letting the girl live temporarily at her mother’s house because she believed the woman neglected her children.

Shaniya Davis had gone last month to stay for a while with her mother, 25-year-old Antoinette Davis, as part of an informal agreement with the father, Bradley Lockhart. Lockhart’s sister said she helped raise the girl and was concerned about her moving in with her mother.

“Antoinette and I never really got along because of the way that she neglected her children,” Carey Lockhart-Davis said. “I feel robbed. I feel that Shaniya was robbed.”

Antoinette Davis is charged with human trafficking and felony child abuse. Her sister, Brenda Davis, has said she does not believe the charges and argued that Antoinette would not hurt her children.

Searchers discovered the girl’s body Monday, nearly a week after her mother reported her missing from a mobile home park in Fayetteville.

Fayetteville police said Tuesday that additional charges will be filed in the case, though they did not offer more specifics. An autopsy was being conducted to determine how Shaniya died.

“She was just learning how to ride her scooter,” Lockhart said at an emotional news conference.

Also charged in the case is Mario Andrette McNeill, 29, who was accused of kidnapping Shaniya after surveillance footage from a Sanford hotel showed him carrying the girl. Authorities said McNeill admitted taking the girl, though his attorney said he will plead not guilty.

Lockhart declined to discuss details of the case Tuesday. He said Shaniya had spent most of her live living with him until he decided to give Antoinette Davis a chance with her daughter after she got a job and appeared to be overcoming financial difficulties. Shaniya moved to her mother’s house on Oct. 9.

“She was just learning how to ride her scooter,” Lockhart said. “Every day was special with Shaniya.”

He spoke briefly to reporters gathered outside his home Tuesday. Teddy bears, stuffed animals, balloons and flowers adorned the steps to the house. Lockhart stepped outside for brief comments and pleaded to the public to be vigilant in reporting crimes.

“I’m sorry baby you had to go through this,” Lockhart said, choking back tears. “But, you are in a better place and in better hands.”

Shaniya’s mother reported her missing a week ago, authorities said. Authorities initially arrested a man described as Antoinette Davis’ boyfriend but then set him free after arresting McNeill. Information brought investigators 30 miles away from Fayetteville to a wooded roadside.

A dog trainer who was there when Shaniya’s body was found said Tuesday that searchers initially overlooked the area because they saw only deer carcasses in trash bags. Jeff Riccio of Tarheel Canine Training Inc. said his team returned to the area after getting information that Shaniya’s body might be near deer carcasses. The searchers found the body Monday afternoon underneath thick vines.

“It was nothing that anybody wants to see,” Riccio said.

    I will say this, this “mother” (loose use of the term) was on drugs and clearly not in her right mind, but what the hell is this dudes excuse? I mean, I can’t understand why he, or whoever he dropped this girl off too, didn’t have a rationale thought at some point and say, “hey, let me have sex with the mother or do whatever you wanted with her”. I’m sure she would have been more than willing. I’m in no way condoning that, but at least she is a grown adult making an adult decision. This little girl had zero choice in this matter. I think if we started beheading these pedophiles publicly, not only do we rid the world of excess sc**, but we also send messages to others that this is no joke. I understand these dudes have some mental problems, but I firmly believe if these dudes realize that the stakes are extremely high, you will see a vast majority of these dudes be successful in healing themselves!

    Oh my god, He should get the death penalty.How dare he do that to that little girl.He needs to be put under the jail.Never to be dug up again.OH let me get on the mother,she is not even a mother she didnt deserve to have kids.Most people want kids and cant even have any.She also should be under th jail.How can you do that to your child? How can anyone do that to any one? Please dont let her out of jail leave her in there to rot.She is a sad excuse for a mother.I hope he getd what he deserves in jail.They need to get Kimbo Slice on him.     i dont like when people mess with kids. and i dont belive and the death penalty but with this case i think both of them sound get the death penalty.she need to be put under the jail for what she did to that little angle. i have three little girls my self that really just hurt me. because i think about my girls. but i cant belive that man would do that. shanyia mother need to rot in jail for what she did. but god got a pland for those who was involed with shanyia death. shayniya we are giving you a momemnt of silence. because you are one of god’s little angle. my heart goes out to your dad and family…. how can people be so ignorance today.

It goes bak to the old saying, ” It takes a village, to raise a child”. If you know something happening in family, report it. Don’t let these sick people get away with what they are doing because you don’t want to “snitch” on a brother or sister. Remember that child is someone’s brother or sister. They are our future. And don’t they deserve to have one too ?

    Why in every pic I see of this fool does he have a smug grin on his face,I wonder will he still be wearing that Grin while he is being bent over or getting his as s whipped while in PRISON and the Mother is no better if she wanted her drug of choice so badly why didnt she sell her own services why do this to that poor baby the Father isn’t to blame she is and God will Judge her as he will judge us all but this is sad.
