8-Year-Old Dies Trying To Save Baby Brother From Fire

NEW YORK – An 8-year-old-boy ran back into his burning apartment to save his little brother but died along with him in the thick smoke and flames, according to neighbors and relatives.

Tyanthony Duckette and his sister were carried out of Thursday morning’s blaze at the Queens duplex by his grandmother Carlota Wilson. But when she was unable to find 17-month-old Daniel Wilson, Tyanthony ran back to save him.

Shortly afterward, the two children were pulled out of the house by firefighters. They couldn’t be revived at a hospital.

“The boy was very close, very, very tight-knit with all of his siblings,” the boys’ grandfather, Andrew Wilson, told the Daily News of New York. “I’m not surprised that he would do it. He would never want to see his little brother suffer.”

Wilson, 59, said, “He’s our little determined hero.”

Neighbor Carrie Nelson told the New York Post the mother was hysterical.

“She was screaming: ‘My kids are in there!’” Nelson said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Friday. Fire officials were looking at the rear bedroom where much of the fire was, specifically at a light fixture. It was not clear whether a light bulb or lamp or some other material fell onto bedding and sparked the blaze.

    i guess he was brave but he should have lived for the better after this event i think a hero that lives is better but he might have regreted it is he didn’t try to save him! sad!

    I agree with everybody below me. Its such a shame and I don’t know the full story of where the mother was at in the house or if she was in the house when the fire started…I just don’t see myself run’ing out the house without my child. If it was me and I knew that my kids was in there I would have done like the little hero and went back in to get my child.(JMO)

    Wow…so sad…I hate to hear about ppl gettin killed, but especially da babies!! My prayers are definitely with da family & any other family that may be experiencin a “heart-ship” of this nature!!

    Hopefully the mother in all the confusion thought her kids were already outside, and didnt intentionally leave her babies in there but either way its, still a terribly sad story. My prayers will definitely be with this family

    Wow! That is an incredibly touching story. I have so many thoughts and questions but I will just send my prayers and condolences to the family.

    On another note, is anyone besides me tired of seeing these spammers on these blogs? The last thing I wanted to see after reading that heart-wrenching story was some spammer talking about they are rich and lonely. I’m tired of seeing them and the interracial thing on almost every post.

    this is what it means to be a true brother. he selflessly gave himself to the flames to commit to the love of his younger siblings. i pray that he rests in peace alongside his brother. and i hope that the strength of him is within me.
