BIZARRE: Teens Arrested For Rapping McDonald’s Order
SALT LAKE CITY – A rap by four teenagers at a McDonald’s has gotten them a bad rap in one Utah city.
The teens were cited by American Fork police earlier this week for disorderly conduct after they rapped their order at a McDonald’s drive-through
The teens said they were imitating a popular video on YouTube. They rapped their order, which begins with, “I need a double cheeseburger and hold the lettuce …” once quickly before repeating it more slowly.
Spenser Dauwalder said employees at the restaurant told him and his friends they were holding up the line and needed to order or leave.
The 18-year-old said nobody was in line. He and his three 17-year-old friends left without buying anything.
American Fork Police Sgt. Gregg Ludlow says a manager wrote down the car’s license plate number and called police. The teens were later cited by officers at a high school parking lot outside a volleyball match.
“We thought, you know, just teenagers out having fun,” Dauwalder told KSL Newsradio. “We didn’t think it would escalate to that.”
Disorderly conduct citations are issued when someone does something to cause annoyance or alarm, Ludlow said. The citation is an infraction similar to a speeding ticket, Ludlow said
“It was not just that they were rapping, they continued to hold things up,” Ludlow said.
Ludlow said the teens were asked several times to speak plainly and that ultimately the manager came outside.
The owner-operator of the McDonald’s said in a statement that the issue was about employees’ safety at the restaurant in American Fork, about 30 miles south of Salt Lake City.
“The employee in question felt that her safety was at risk as a result of the alleged actions of these individuals in the drive-thru, not as a result of them rapping their order,” franchisee Conny Kramer said in the statement. “As such, she contacted the local authorities.”
But Sharon Dauwalder, Spenser’s mother, said they will fight it nonetheless.
“We have to,” she told The Associated Press on Thursday. “The citation is there.”

I just want to know where exactly in the article did it say what race the boys were? Some of ya’ll are making it into a race issue, and that isn’t even the case.
And I’m sure it was annoying to the person taking their orders, but the manager calling the police was a little too far in my opinion.

Double Standards , I could say clearly race was involved.But you know what how many times did they rap their order ? After the first time they should have just ordered regularly instead of pushing for what they saw on youtube.Again it could be double standards but it could be that they rapped their order too many times.

They should be ashamed of themselves…doing those kids like that. I don’t think they should have arrested those kids, but, I am glad its not black kids this time. Its usually black kids subjected to racial profiling, etc HOWEVER, it doesn’t make it any better that its white kids. All it did was shine a long existing light on the subject.

The issue appears to me that the manager and employee of the (UTAH)Mcdonald’s thought that these “white” boys were black because they were rapping their order. Now they will fight it in court and they will win because they are “white” in “UTAH”. Compare this to the “black honor student at the Walmart who got arrested for cutting the line”. And they are still trying to throw the book at her and add resisting arrest after they assaulted her in front of witnesses. She has been fighting her (trying to catch the shorter line at Walmart) incident three years. Talk about excalating incidents. Pray for all of our youths who are not really committing crimes to learn that being mischevious after they grow is no longer cute it is a crime.
I think that they were just some teens having fun. They probably seen the old rap that the McDonalds use to have and decided they would try it. I do not see it as really an issue dealing with race. After all the youngmen were white. Rather there was a long line or not, there is just a time and place for everything. Obviously according to management they had the wrong time and place to pull their stunt. They were not arrested which I feel wouldve been going a bit overbaord. I would just say they were made a prime example out of. The next teens whie,black,hispanic, or whatever will know not to do that at a place of business. I feel our youth today just miss out on so much of the wisdom that was given to some of us by our grandparents. The thought that this was agains the law probably never crossed their minds. If it had been someone working that they knew or something or even if they had purchased an item things may have turned out different. I think it may have taught them a life lesson.
First off they were not arrested! they were given a TICKET. Second it don’t matter if is was rap, rock, country or the blues if someone came to your job while you are working and started joking around instead of conducting business you’d get pissed off too. Hip Hop is the continuation of the minstrel show. The genre has become one for the petty, vain, arrogant, superficial, shallow anti-intellectual closeted homophobe that degrades women in a nutshell. In my opinion most rappers just want to be teenage and white anyway.

I think Smiles, and yes I looked at your profile before responding, that you need to learn to read and absorb what you’ve read before you just go off about racism. I don’t see racism here, and the people involved where white, not black. This was a case of having fun but also not thinking about the consequences of what could happen. I also think that management and the server in question, feeling she was being threatened, was a joke.
this is a race issue without any african americans involved. young white people stay away from rap; i repeat stay away from rap or you too will become targets. i know you asked for no pickles; and no lettuce.

This sooo stupid. Thats why i hate UTAH. I mean really was it that serious to cite these young people. They were probably trying to help bring customers to that old shack. And it sure is a race issue. I know that because i lived out there for only a few months. White people want utah to stay white and full of mormans. As perfect as you wish your state was, it isnt.
