Listen, I’m happy that Obama is our first African Amercian president and I’m proud of the fact that more brothers feel like they can move up in this world. But to ask a question “What can Obama do for black men?” is kind of over board. I feel this way because I’m a young black man making my way and I have not or would ever look for someone to make things happen for me. Some brothers have to realize to really make it we have to work hard ourselves without trying to cut each other down anytime things get rough. That’s the way African American men can make it. Thru respect for each other. Also it is still uncertain whether or not Obama has African Americans on his things to work on list because at the end of the day he is a politician.

In reviewing the article Dr. Boyce mentioned 4 out of 5 things that revolved around Black Men and Prison… this should let everyone one know that this is not going to get any attention, and if it does, its only gonna cater to gettin us to become apart of a governing society, and convert to the mindframe that they want us to have.

DR. Watkins, I have one solution, that not only negates the need for your list but will solve ALL our problems.

There needs to be a serious, constructive revamping of the curriculum that young black men are being taught. According to Dr. Kunjufu, young Black males are the TOP students up until 5th or 6th grade, then of course, we fall off the rails and become the WORST. Why?? A healthy, positive, INTERESTING curriculum will maintain that top spot throughout HS!! More money won’t do it if especially when that money is not spent or utilized well enough!

I don’t think Obama will be able to do anymore than our Senate and House will allow. I think that once policies that have anything to do with the inner-city is introduced, watch the waffaling begin! Both houses will say where do we find the funds? Just look at just the healthcare fiasco. Sure they can find funds to make sure we can trade our Suburban for a Smart car. But the inner-city? I think what has to happen is that more Blacks in their communites stand up, and stop waiting for goverment to solve our problems. Our churches can do more in their neighborhoods than gov. can, if the reach out “to the least of these”, and not just talk about just goin’ to heaven on Sundays . Heaven can be made here if we just come together.

No, I am not a man, but from a females prospective… I’ve heard that scenario so many times from my black men that I’m sick of hearing it. President Obama made the decision to run for president, and accomplished that by working very hard. Why don’t our black men take responsibility for themselves and stop crying?

Next, Black men have always became angry at the white man for raping black women (rightfully so…), but please tell me what is the difference when black men are making babies, and then leaves the women to take provide for them. I know we woman are at fault as well for our choices of being involved with these type of men; but when are my brothers going to rise up???

My father (father of 10 children) worked hard everyday, and always provided for us, while my mom stayed home. I know times are different, and basically requires a 2 income household; but why is it that some brother walk away from just having 1 or 2 children; and then gets mad because the mother wants child support for the children???

Finally, my brothers… please stop asking what someone else is going to do for you! How about what are you going to do for yourselves, to be an example to someone else???

Pantherg08 is right on point..enough said…black females need to re-connect with their inner strenghth and soul and realize that they are and will alway’s be the fabric that holds the black community together.Over the years, their irresponsibility as a result of brain-washing by the media has led them to beleive that giving away their body to undeserving men who see them as “b***hes” and “hoes” was the way to thrill and happiness. Many of those women who were later abused or emotionally hurt while being “Turned Out” are now lesbians and only date women which might be a good thing as long as the partner is a true homosexual. Many Asian countries have populations of women who now glorify abstinence and pride themselves into not having sex until marriage. Also many of those cultures have career women who are waiting to a later age to marry therefore increasing the age of virginity in many cases to the age of 25 or older. The result is a woman with more self confidence and the feeling of more self worth because she knows that her husband will be the “first”. We need a black female revolution or even large march on Washington with Ophrah, the first Lady and all top black female leaders and influencers to make a committment to go into “The Hood” and change the mindset of these young black women who are having Baby Showers in middle school cafeterias. It’s just so sad to see the black community get worse day by day.

I am not saying that all of the problems are due to the black women, i also think that our young black men are easily swayed, easily influenced and fall into the trap of incarseration all to often, so yes men do need to step up. HOWEVER I have to go back of something malcolm x was referring to about the black women being the main source of a positive influence. It is no secret that a high majority of women are attraceted to the bad boy type, and in our community it is the thugs and gangsters. Since the beggining of time men have tried to do anything to impress women, rather it is through money cars, are even image. Men are just stupid like that but it affects our community ever worse, because we already have so many things stacked against us rather it be generations of poverty, are the crack epedimic in the 80s that sent so many of our mothers and fathers to prisons for long periods of time. If the black women chooses her partner wisely, a ambitious, hard working educated men, then there is a high chance that the offspring will live in a better community, that the child will have 2 positive role models in the house hold, that he wont be running the streets. A poitive fater in the house hold will let the son know how to be a better man, and he will know, and then he will become successfull and that will repeat itself. Thats why i think it starts with the black women, because U pick the partner U are the first teacher of the children!!

The best way to get nothing done is to seek to place the blame on anyone other than yourself. Ask yourself what you personally have done and continue to do for the black community. Leave other people to other people. Men and women arguing over who is to blame is just as stupid as someone trying to pressure President Obama to do more for the black community. If you think something needs to be improved on start working for it now and THEN ask people to help you. Don’t hate on them for not helping or not doing it for you. It’s their choice and you shouldn’t need someone else to fight for what YOU believe in.

President Obama will have accomplished, simply by having been our President and holding the office with honor and respect while also accomplishing some form of the change he promised on the campaign trail, more than anyone else currently around, and single handedly make the world a better place for our children being black in America.

We as a people need to come together in our support of him and stop with the “crabs in a bucket” mentality. He will do more for most of you just by doing a good job than any other politician past has done or present can do. No its not just because he is black you should support him. However it is just because your children are black that you should hope for his succesful future.

Do you realize that by demanding more than he is already doing you may be jeopardizing what only he has the opportunity to do? Right now he needs our support not our criticism, if you think he is not working hard enough get off your butt and show by example what you think needs to be done. There is plenty of negativity out there in our community for you all to focus on if you want to tear down another brotha/sista leave our President out of it he has enough hate coming at him from the racist, and you are playing right into their hands.
