BET Founder Plans To Build Factories In Haiti

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — The founder of the U.S. cable TV company Black Entertainment Television has announced a project for factories that will build construction materials in Haiti.

A press release from Robert L. Johnson says the two factories will build earthquake- and hurricane-resistant panels for housing in Haiti’s quake-battered capital and the city of Cap-Haitien.

Johnson announced the project Wednesday during a visit to Port-au-Prince, where he met with Haitian President Rene Preval and Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive.

The factories will be developed through a company jointly owned by Johnson’s RLJ Companies and South Carolina-based Global Building Solutions. The partnership has built a resort in the West African nation of Liberia.

    He joints owns the company, meaning he will gain profits from the factories. Haiti probably has less environmental and waste policies, which could allow for increased toxicity of local environments. Factories will employ people, but probably not for a fair wage. Outsourcing…its still exploitation.

    Bob dont give a damn about those people, hes just looking to get his claws in a growing market. Clearly he got the approval and promise from a major political figure that they will use his building material for new infrastructure.
    I dont think he understand politics in the area, there is way too much corruption there.
