I don’t think it’s as simple as black folks not having had enough of police brutality. Police have brutalized us so much that we’re accustom to seeing this. It’s the norm. Police get put on paid leaves after they commit these crimes and seldomly get put behind bars. I think some third party organization should be placed over each police department and this organization can’t be tied to the government. I’m so tired of living in a police state…

Frankly, I’m tried of it my father has been on the force for years and he has always upheld a standard that says I’m coming home by any means necessary but I want you to go home by any means as well. Ok its like this. I just moved from Michigan to the East coast. Last year, on average, I was stopped by police times per month in Michigan. No matter if i was driving, walking or riding a bike; not a motorcycle, a bicycle. Black and white cops, it didn’t matter.

Like I said, I’m fresh out here for like a week. I step outside to have a cigerette, and guess what… Police drive past me, go down the block out of sight, turn around and pull up on me. I’m just smoking a cigerette, talking on my cell. What crime am I committing? I understand we shouldn’t celebrate the actions of others in promoting violence, but they just looking for any excuse to mess with blacks. An animal will only be messed with so long before it attacks. Just animal nature. The situation down in Louisiana where the police cheif says it’s there responsibility to make blacks feel unsafe when they come outside. It’s the cheif saying this so what do you expect?

Nice Post. However, most of the actions listed are all reactive. I would like to find some way to help sensitize police, especially white police, when it comes to dealing with African Americans. Then perhaps we could avoid what happened in the Dallas area today. two weeks ago, a friend and I were leaving a rim shop. on our a way back to our house, a police RV pulled us over and and immediately started to search my truck, they opened all my doors and pulled us aside and questioning us about what were we doing. We both are college students graduating in spring of 09 with our BA’s. Still they tore apart my dash and searched us completely without a explanation and left my truck a complete mess. I am in Minneapolis, MN but I guess if a young black man who has a nice car is rolling around, he is automatically called a drug dealer. It is crazy because you have black men like ourselves doing something but we get caught up for stupid, nt to mention they had 4 squad cars, with a total of 14 officers searching my car and talking to us and a canine unit.

some time ago, we used to have an organization that would handle and protect us from s**t like this….um….oh yeah, the BLACK PANTHER PARTY. but what happened? they found some of us that wanted to act as an individual, and not as a whole; all i’m saying is that it’s good to talk, but in the end…united we stand, DIVIDED WE FALL. there, i said it.

What makes the job of a policeman more danagerous than a fisherman, or a limberman? My point is “police officers” really do not have an inheriently deadly job (it maybe dangerous, but there lies the difference)and are no more of a hero nor lay down any more than the aforesaid mentioned people. You have some very good points int this posting. There are too many blacks that are willing to simply deal with these issues rather than take action with the occurence. Most simply dont understand the legal system or simply dont have the money to hire a lawer and pursue lawsuits…. But thats where the video and exposure comes in. If good evidence can be taken to local media and brocasted, It will be easier to get help. But the first step is always to file a complaint….

Unfortunately because the government controls us, and police are part of that government, they in part, can control us as well. I believe that police brutality will never end. They have the government on their side. The view on our government takes a different spin. It is pathetic that our government is being used against us. Corruption has entered our nation and government and it will never leave. With any type of hierarchy there will be emotions and egos. He mentioned the Black Panthers, but only mentioned one aspect of what it was they did. Yes they did do police watches, but they also DEFENDED the community from police. It’s not enough to let the police do what they want to do and THEN send a email of the video or start a law suit AFTER the fact. The BPP was also armed. Trisha, That is why I am leaving North Carolina. This is a racist state and the police need to be dealt with. There is someone in every office of law enforcement and the media that is either related to or sleeping with someone in another department. Thanks for the comments, and they were really helpful!!!! Growing up in Illinois, on the South Side of Chicago exposed me to police brutality and/or mis-conduct on a daily basis. I have another issue that must be addressed. I commented on it once, and I reasonable believe more light should be shed on goverment agents (police) who lie on the stand, write fellacious police reports, and conduct illegal searches and seizures. For th Most part, police brutality more often than not stem from an illegal stop of black citizens, as if we are not suppose to be upset because the police want to go on a fishing expdition. Why is it, every time a police is caught on video basically operating out side his employment, or violating someone civil rights, their superior publicly states that “the video doesn’t show every thing”, “like what happen before the action”. Even if we didn’t see what happen before the action we intelligently know the action itself, in a given instance was wrong, and criminal, and should not take years to investigate, especially when the evidence is right in front of their face’s. As stated before, “The First 48 hours” t.v show solve murders within 48 hours, so why is it so hard for police mis-conduct to be handled as swiftly. I conclude, “our opponet’s biggest weapon against us is our ignorance”
