dis is extremely sad and messed up this is another women why the world is so fuked up and no1 trust any1. u can’t even serve your country without having to worry bout wheather some1 in ur own army causing you harm. RIP LAVena.

More than likely some one in high rank did this…a friend of mine was raped while she was in kawait a few years ago. To keep her from pressing charges they gave her an honorable discharge and she’s now receiving psychiatric benefits because they lable her as being mental unstable.

Okay from reading the article….the U. S. Army does not want to do the investigation….Perhaps someone from the family reads this and does it…

First thing you’ll have to do is go to the U. S. Army Criminal Investigation Division with all pertinent information to include the Autopsy results. Pass that information on to them and demand an investigation and base it on murder with intent to disclose information.

Should the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) decline it…take that information to the Base Commander and have him review it and request him to investigate it.

Halliburton also needs to be investigated. And, the contractor where she was found. So that means that you will have to call your local FBI Field Office and give them the information.

And, finally, you are going to need to go to the Department of Defense, Department of the Army and advise them you have proof that your daughter was murdered and you have evidence to support that claim…MAKE PLENTY OF COPIES AND GET NAMES OF PEOPLE YOU’VE TALKED TO…I’m sorry to say that investigations of this nature aren’t something you see on television….it’s going to take some time.

But, what I’m thinking once you’ve advised the FBI, in your state and city…the ball should start rolling!!!!

I’m in the army been to iraq 3 times already and I can tell you that her case isnt that uncommon…at least the rape part. it happens more than the public knows and its not just female soldiers getting raped its male soldiers getting raped also. You will never hear about it though because the media doesnt care and neither does the military. the same goes for suicides…I’ve had at least one close friend commit suicide on 2 out of the 3 deployments kill themselves that I’ve been on. My heart goes out to her family. Also the KBR contractors have free reign to do almost any and everything they want over there…would surprise me if it was a civilian that did it.

I send my condolences to LaVena’s family. This is such a tragic loss. I hope that they do catch the people responsible for her death. It is such a shame to know how people in this world can be so cruel.

Thats why I discourage my kids from jioning the military.

OMG! I used to know LaVena. We went to the same High School together. She was very smart but not really outspoken. I was told that it was suicide but by me knowing her at school she wasn’t the kind of person who would take her own life. I’m just in lost of words hearing this… I pray for the family in their lost and for every family who had to go thru what LaVena’s family has to go thru. I hope and pray that justice will be served and that LaVena’s family stay strong and stay prayed up. Blessings to you.

This is a sad story.A lady that that stayed positive dying in such a tragic painful way. I got mixed feelings on one hand Im thankful for what I got and on the other hand it very upsetting and disappointing to keep hearing stories like LaVena’s.

Wow this is really sad. I’m in the Army and this is my first time hearing this story. This is a story that should have national attention. It’s really sad that America doesn’t care about what happens to our people. You see more news coverage when an animal is treated inhumanely than when one of our people is. I agree if this was a white women it’d be national news.

The sad reality about this lie called “America” that we live in, is that if Lavena Johnson were white with blond hair and blue eyes, this would have been on the national news literally every day, would have been turned into a television min-drama, have several doc**entaries and magazine articles and been the topic of discussions at the highest levels of society.

Alas, this young woman is BLACK — so her case, her appalling tragedy — is easily dismissed and neglected by the Army and America.

Too bad her name is not Natalie Holloway or Pat Tillman — and too bad her skin color is a darker hue than the former mentioned.

This is sickening. My sister is currently serving in Iraq and i would be mortified if i ever heard something like this happening to her. The worst part is, she isn’t the only one…and not just American women. there is very little a woman in the armed forces can do to protect herself from such an occurance if the armed forces refuse to help protect them. its obvious rape within the armed forces is hush-hush, because it is reoccuring. No one talks about it, and I seriously doubt that they are incorporating rape prevention and self-control in combat training.

It is horrific to think that she is not the first, and she will certainly not be the last. as a woman, it is stories like this that stop me from even thinking about ever going into the army. what a terrible way to go, but at some point, some woman will be the breaking point that will end the status quo and finally give justice to the women who have experienced this abuse and died by it.

This is wrong on so many levels it hard to pick just one. I am a Platoon Sergeant with 42 soldiers. I cant imagin something like this happening to any of them. God help the persons responable cause if they ever cross my path there be a whole new headline to read in the news.

I can say (being a soldier) that there are alot of things that go on during deployments that you all know nothing about. Things that happen to both men and women. Deployments to Iraq/Afganistan have ruined and scarred many, and will continue to do so until the day they die. As sad as it is, its a fact that only a fellow soldier can attest to. God bless and protect all my fellow soldiers. We still have a long road ahead of us….

That is not right, There is a reason why men are not allowed to go into women tents and women too. I know they spend a lot of time in Iraq isolated from the opposite sex and sometimes they get stressed but there is no reason for them to treat her like a piece of meat…

It’s hard enough for us as Black Americans to send or children to fight or for them to want to do the right thing. They always have to cover up their wrong doing,which comes to show is our cause. They make it seem like it’s a good thing to serve our country. A country that never from the beginning of time RESPECTED us as an equal.Our ancestors died for our cause to be of an importance and this is how we are repaid. God be with her family and the truth. Hopefully the truth will come to light the way the truth came to light in concerns of the way Americans treated the people that was captured by American Armys. They need to get to the bottom of who’s the real killers. Women Are people to and they should be treated as such, the Government should answer for this especially * BUSH*.Pvt. 1st class Jonhson and family are due somes answers and if we could charged*BUSH* with their deaths I would be the first one to say”guilty in 1st degree murder.” Send his child there and see how he’ll do everything to find out who killed his child.It saddens me in all aspects of the word to see so much change,but things are still the same.God said “what is first shall be last and what is last shall be first.”

This touched my heart!!!! This story reminds me of my sister. My sister was rapped shortly after she was deployed to IRAQ… She survived and got away from her alleged attacker.
Shortly after this tragic event.. my sister discovered she was pregnant. today I have a loving 4 year old niece. Sadly knowing that this young lady was raped and killed. My condolences go to her family. I’ve heard so many stories about the night life in Iraq. It is very sick and dangerous… I pray daily for those who serve over there. WE Must Continue to pray!

Naturally, the U.S ARMY is the first thing that comes to mind when a person thinks about the military. I didn’t know anything about the infrastructure of the ARMY. Most people don’t.
I’ve seen countless movies about the ARMY. “Black Hawk Down”, “Casualties Of War, “Private Benjamin”, “In The Army Now”, and my personal favorite “Buffalo Soldiers”. The way the media stigmatize the ARMY, it’s a wonder why any sane person would sign up.

Well….More people than you’ll imagine.
Everybody has there own reason for wanting to join the military and what they expect to gain from the experience. Some people are looking for an exciting career, college money, adventure, discipline or sheer patriotism. Hopefully, this book will guide some lost souls in the right or left direction.
Keep in mind, this book is in no form or fashion a military bashing book. So all you activist and third world hippies can stop waving your fist.

And sometimes the answer is vice-versa.
Unfortunately, I didn’t know any active duty Soldiers at the time. So I did the next best thing; My Retarded Ass Signed Up. I went into the ARMY blind and came out with a whole new outlook.

She is a beautiful woman. It is shameful that this has happened. I have a close relative who just shared with us that she was raped while in the military. This is MANY years later. Some victims of rape may think that if it was something that didn’t do, say or feel, that it’s their fault. Whether you went on a date or allowed this person in your home, rape is wrong and it’s wounds spread far past years or relationships. It is just one person exerting control of another that they don’t have in their own sorry lives. My prayers are with the Johnson family and all rape and abused women.

My condolences to her family and battle buds, I call myself a news hawk and this is the first time I’ve heard of this heartless tragedy, I wonder how much effort the DOD will exert to bring light to this dark time, but I have to wonder; is this again the cat watching the canary, I’m still listening for a reopening of Ron Brown’s murder, the higher powers staged an elaborate scheme to do away with an upstanding and popular Black star in the political arena.

I served 8 years in the Marines as a Grunt and have seen tings that encompassed the whole range of emotions, but since this operations beginnings “in the name of fighting terror”, Every Armed forces personnel who lost their life or wounded, give me a personal feeling of loss as well, and for the guilty person(s) heartless act of barbarianism, and investigating abomination of justice make my blood boil.

And again to the Family and Friends of My Sister at Arms Lavena Johnson, Stay strong, fight the good fight, and
God Bless and the Lord will keep you in His Light.

Answer me this! How can a suicide victim break her own nose? How can a suicide victim try; you hear try to set herself on fire? How can a suicide victim rape herself? This is a military cover up, of a man or men that they don’t want to come to the light, but it will. The only obvious reason they are covering it up is for protection of theirselves and other men in the US military that have committed the same act or something similar and need not for it to be leaked, due to their spotlight in the publics eye, and their families. Its a shame when the people who know about the detailsof her death can’t sleep at night because I know it’s eating them up to take a girl so young and have her body tooken by sick individuals, they took her ody but they damn sure didnt take her soul. God Bless her family she’s never forgotten, and neither are the people who did it. God got something special for ya’ll even if the military didn’t!

It was murder and rape. Private security firms are hiding behind the Patriot Act to practice good old fashion racisim in every way. No self inflicted gunshot wound would give you a broken nose and dislocated shoulder and amazingly start a fire.

Deeply heart for the great loss of our young sister in very unjust ways . GOD the almighty will punish those responsible for as alfa and omega-sees and indeed knows all, to her family may GOD protect you and bless you in some other way so that you cherish the good times with her short life with pride.

I am so hurt by what I heard…. I really have nothin to say but that my heart and prayers go out to her family….I really don’t understand why people are the way that they are not why they do the things that they do it makes no sense to me at all…

Thats a damn shame. My heart goes out to her family. Girl was just trying to pay for college and got raped and murdered. All I can say is wow unbelievable.

These kinds of things happen too often in the military.

The Military gets away with this most all the time, which is unfortunate.

The family came to me when this happened, but I only work with rape victims, not murder victims, and have 2000+ clients.

Ann Wright is working with this family, and the others who have lost their daughters to rape and a murder to cover this up.

PLEASE – if you are considering joining the military UNDERSTAND that this IS real. There are more MEN Raped in Service than Women.

The chances of being raped are higher than the chances of being shot, or killed in Iraq.

The chances of being killed by “our own troops” is higher than normal during this war.

The military already covered up the dozen or so women who would not drink water during the day, and died of dehydration. They would not drink water in 130 degrees, so they would not have to go to the latrine at night – for fear of being raped.

Though there still is some racism in the military, it is not as strong as sexism, or the need to perpetrate crimes against each other.

The thing about the military is that you have NO recourse for help because they essentially “own” you for the time you are signed up.

Learn from this tragedy. Talk about it with your friends and family.

Keep yourself safe. There are other ways to get money for college, and better people to work with.

Not everyone in the military is bad, but I believe after serving, and working with victims that the numbers are higher than we want to believe.
