A Washington state soldier is accused of holding his 4-year-old daughter’s head under the water in the kitchen sink mock “waterboard-style” because she would not recite the alphabet, The News-Tribune reports.
The Tacoma newspaper says Thurston County authorities filed a charge of second-degree assault of child against Joshua Ryan Tabor, 27, from the Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
The News-Tribune said Tabor, according to court records, told a Yelm police officer that he and his girlfriend had “held (his daughter) down on the counter and submerged her head into the water three or four times until the water came around her forehead and jawline.”
He said that she was face-up during the ordeal, which she was forced to undergo for “refusing to say her letters.”

I will assume this man has a serious case of PTSD and has not received the proper treatment. If his girlfriend knew of his behavior, she should be in a cell next to him for not seeking help for both him and the child. My biggest question is WHERE IS MOTHER???!!!! I hope the gf isn’t it…. That is horrible, people are crazy. And by the way, the article didn’t say that the girl didn’t know the alphabet, it said she wouldn’t “recite” it, that’s something completely different. My 2 year old knows the alphabet but she doesn’t always “recite” it when you ask her to.

4 years old and the kid doesn’t know their alphabet yet? That isn’t the child’s fault. I can understand the frustration on the parents, but the parents should have been kicking their own arse for not exposing their child to education alot earlier. Exposure is the key. Don’t make them feel obligated at 4. You don’t have to be rich to get a good education. You don’t have to have a high IQ to learn. Exposure, exposure, exposure. Don’t expect a kid to learn anything all of a sudden when you have let your kid watch spongebob all day.

I do not understand anybody idea that this is an ok thing to do because the child need to learn their alphabet. There are other ways teaching a child and some people obviously forgotten that children do have feelings too. The child may have been moody so for example give her a break than later teach her the alphabet like playing a game on a board, a book, with papers or even lego blocks with letters. People have to use their imagination and water boarding is outright danger and stupid to use on any child. Yes, he’s a soldier but we do not hear the majority of them coming home and doing this to their children.

This reminds me of one of my dumbass cousins who hit her 5 yr old with a belt every time she got a letter or number wrong on her HOMEWORK! She’s in kindergarten..she apologized later cuz she felt bad but damn, y the f**k didn’t you think of that s**t while you were hitting her. @1_Fine_Artist..I Totally agree with you.. I’ll say some of our military personnel are getting use to being harsh and unopen-minded towards things. There are some, not all, that you cannot even converse with because they think your opinion is insulting. I rather not argue or speak respectfully to a person that is not perceptive to me. That’s what i’ve learn, but i respect other people’s opinions and ideas but when it comes to a disrespect, i’ll just let you talk to yourself.
