If you look at the video while one cop is putting the cuffs on the boy the other is pressing an object into his back; then you see again when the boy is up and cuffed the same cop presses the Taser into the boy’s stomach and the boy jumps back and objects (if you look closely you’ll see the sparks flash on the boy’s tee shirt – it looks like a flash bulb). After the boys objects vocally the same vindictive PIG then tries to reach over his partner’s head to jolt the boy as he’s pushed out the door.

When are we gonna stand up and protect our youth? Adults are talking about the youth don’t have any respect for us — why should they when we obviously don’t have enough love and respect for them to protect them against people that mean to do them harm. Cops have a job to do and he was impeding them. Let me ask everyone this, what if the kid took this approach: the next time a brawl breaks out, instead of jumping in and fighting like an animal how about walking the opposite direction. Total BS! that last guys was hand cuffed and was tazed from behind that was a punk a** b*tch made coward move to me! there was no abuse. all i saw was a bunch of out of control hard heads. and one took off his shirt like he was ready to get busy. he needed to be taken to the floor. before he got his ass kicked.

I think both opinions here are correct! they had a right to taze him as he was provocing and not listening to the police, however once he is handcuffed the police should have enough integrity to not allow a boys word get to him and abuse his position!

People are always so quick to blame to police for being “brutal”….. the name of the “game” is to GO HOME EVERYDAY! These people devote their lives in a very dangerous profession trying to make it safe for people to “live and play” with no worries. Now I will say, there are quite a few “officers” throughout the U.S. that give all departments a bad name, they do take things WAYYYY too far, but NO officer is taught to be brutal, just to use whatever force necessary to CONTROL the situation at hand. You never know what someone may or may not be getting ready to do to you out there and all you can do is what your best judgement and training tell you to, and that is to protect yourself and those around you.

As for this video post, we were NOT there so we do not know what all happened from beginning to end, you can tell that this video isn’t continuous coverage, maybe even edited, so we are missing pieces, BUT once the guy was in cuffs, there was no reason for the officer to push his head out of that door. But i’m sure the guy had to have done something to piss off the police BEFORE they just targeted him out of ALL those people in that crowd. Tazers are expensive, even deadly in cases, so the officers SHOULDN’T use them all willy nilly, especially if they can remember back to when they went through training and the pain they felt when those electrical volts went through their own bodies.

All i’m saying is people are quick to judge, we can’t be 100% on any side until we know all the details and facts of an incident, just as with Rodney King. I’ve seen the extended video, and it was both the faults of the officers and Rodney. Edited info give police a worse name than they already have.

Police in the US Virgin Islands kicked in my mom’s front door last Saturday morning while looking for someone who didn’t live there. They slammed her on the floor and sprained her shoulder. WTF ??? A 62 year old woman. This comes just days after they beat a pregnant woman in the Fredericksted neighborhood, just a block away from my mom’s house. Police everywhere getting out of control. They need to be checked.

When he used the tazer the first time, he provoked the crowd…people became outraged. Then to use it again and think that the guy was going to calm down didn’t help. What those cops did was really uncalled for bottom line. They shouldn’t have used a taser on a high school boy that is trying to get his lil sister. The video shows him trying to leave and they snatch him back and tase him which very unruly on the cop part! Even if they did bring him to the ground, they did not have to use the taser on him repeatably, its other cop who does not understand his job quite well or is just that weapon happy that he just needed a reason to use him taser! Some cops out there are real true cops that do right by people…but these are just IDIOTS that think they are superior to everyone else.

This kid deserved it. First off, he was threatening the school administrators. Second, he was fighting. Third, he didn’t comply with the officers commands. I am so sick of cops getting away with crimes. we need to form some kind of committee that targets law enforcement and the crimes they commit. It really shouldnt be tolerated. if i so much as make a illegal turn, im being pulled over. in the case of a public school with already excited teens. the cops are trained to deal with certain type of people and to act accordingly. in this case, you have young people at a basketball game. fight or no fight, they should have used tact. but since it was a minority school, the cops come in with there guns drawn. mistake number one! as far as the cops see it, everybody is guilty. and what did they think the crowd would think when cops act that way? they did not have to tase anybody, that is an abuse of power. pushing and shoving and throwing there weight around is a bully tactic that shows that they are in control. did the school have their own security? where were they? and where are the parents? arrest or not, i would have had to push my weight around until the police started to handle theirselves a little more appropriately. it is an outrage to have law enforcement act like bullies. as far as i am concerned, cops are nothing more than a gang with badges. from what i saw in the video, the cops had no reason to tase the young man, or use such brutal force. but the public will let them get away with another assault. when are we gonna just show these idiots that we are tired of their racial bulls**t? do i feel bad when a cop dies in the line of duty? yes, because its a human life. what i dont get is why they make it a huge deal. all cops know what the deal is when they sign it. and the media makes it seem like its the worst thing that can happen. no, they worst thing is to continue to let these fools get away with assault, murder, racial profiling and rape.

Sometimes tasing is necessary. In this case I don’t think it was. If you’re a police officer and you cannot subdue a high school student that you clearly outweigh by at least 150lbs. then you shouldn’t be a police officer. From understanding channel 4 news video two female basketball players on opposite teams kicked off this brawl and the brother stepped in to help. Police even had k-9′s at this brawl to me that’s a little extreme when cops already using taser guns and before this brawl broke out everyone who enter this game had to go threw a metal detector scan. Another thing explained in channel 4 news video these teens was knocking over innocent by-standers.

If you were to watch more of the altercation on the news you would realize that the crowd was a step aways from turning into a riot and the police needed to do something to get things in control before it turned in to something more. The kid that was running away was part of the altercation and in my eyes he was resisting arrest so yes he did deserve to get tased. You think you’re man enough to get in somebodies face, especially a police officer or a teacher (they don’t show you that part on this video) then you should be treated as such. Would you rather the police officer pull out a gun or hit him with a batton. I am not playing the race card, but this is ridiculous. Cops are trained to respond incidents like this and they responded wrong! If it was white on white they still responded wrong. There are different levels of response and cops escalated it from the beginning. Walking around with taser out through a crowd of people, excuse me kids just made the situation worse, and just antagonized the crowd even more.The problem here is training, or cops ignoring the correct training. What they did was not acceptable no matter what color they were.

Just cause I notice that so many people believe the boy was tased more than once, he wasn’t (speaking about the 2nd half of the video)….. that officer had a FLASHLIGHT on the boy. When you are tased, your whole body locks up and you can NOT move it, this boy was able to squirm when the officer was putting the cuffs on him. Also, when they stood him up, that was the FLASHLIGHT that was placed on his stomach, NOT A TASER. Watch carefully. I DO believe the officers had the right to tase, because you can control it more so than you can with the O.C. spray (pepper spray).

For everyone trippin’ that the officers were targeting one person, look at how the video is cut and jumps, its NOT CONTINUOUS COVERAGE and/or EDITED, so we don’t know the whole story and if you notice all the people around, I’m sure those officers didn’t pick that boy and say…”we’re gonna mess with him for the hell of it”…. y’all gotta think/look farther into things and open your minds to other possibilities. I have reviewed this video over 20 or so times. There is nothing racist about the actions that were taken by the Police Officers. The young man refused to comply with the instructions that he was given LAWFULLY. Even after being handcuffed, a suspect can still resist AND can even injure a Police Officer. Suspects have kicked, bitten and even spit on Police Officers. It is a fact and as a Black Police Officer for 16 years, black people have done ALL of those things while I was doing my job. Why didn’t this young man just leave in the first place? Why did he choose to “NOT” comply with the lawful instructions that he was given. There are some racist cops in America. That is not secret. How can we fight it if we are in the wrong in the first place. Based on the “Use of Force Continuum”, these officer acted appropriately. Period. We can’t even begin to check the behavior of racist Police Officer without first checking ourselves. And the highly educated author of this story should know that!!!

these young kids have no respect for the law, no repsect for elders, and definitly no repsect for themselves.

Thank God for cameras. The cops still don’t get it. It seems like a lot of cops go on a “power trip” every time a volatile situation arises. Now, I’m not totally taking the kids off the hook. They too have to be responsible for their own actions and they do need to have some respect for the law and authority. However, most of us that attended either high school and / or college know that sports rivalries can get pretty heated and the young people can get really charged up. Although the police are the authorities and need to keep the peace. They need to show some restraint when providing crowd control especially at an event with minors. That could have been any one of our children at that game.

Any person handcuffed can still hurt someone. Kicking, tackling, biting and spitting can all still be done. The unruly minor was STILL being defiant even while handcuffed. If that were my son, who is a High School Senior – he would still be in the WRONG!!

If the youth is attacking another black person – who is it that is really against their own? The person that that kids was trying to attacked could also have been hurt or killed. But you don’t mention that. I have personally investigated cops for excessive force, which resulted in suspensions and terminations for them. But blanket accusations and a refusal to accept responsibility for our own actions or those of our children DO NOTHING TO HELP US IN THE FIGHT AGAINST RACISM OR POLICE BRUTALITY. 23 police officer confirmed that that was excessive force. He was teen and there are more than one officers at the scene. If you cannot physically restrain a teenager then you should go back through training. And take another step to self defense classes. I dont care the race this was wrong. Yeah This may sound a bit well ignorant on my part and it’s ok but i would rather them fist fight. Handcuff them but to take it further is just to much. The officers that I know deal with this and more everyday and would not have taken it that far..

To Lifter, thanks for your in put and I wanted to clarify one thing. I too was a civilian employee for the Chicago Police Dept back in the 90′s and I have a sister and a few friends that are currently either Chicago Police Officers or Cook County Sheriff’s Deputies. I have always kind of had a “love / hate” relationship with the police or law enforcement, but I do respect them. However, I disagree with you that a hand cuffed person can really do some harm. Once your hands are restrained behind your back you lose your sense of balance and also a way to defend your self or protect yourself from a fall. I will never blanketly label all cops are “dirty”, “crooked” or bad, but I have seen a lot of police misconduct in my days of growing up in Chicago or up here in Minneapolis where I currently live now. I think what happened to Rodney King back in the 90′s and a several other high profile police beatings has really opened up the public’s eye regarding how the police operate and treat citizens. i believe its a self defense mechanism many black people have by ignoring the hundreds of black on black crimes in our communities but are ready to march against the police,which who are our ONLY defense against chaotic insensitive criminals who want a black community where where the law is not visible or too scared to stop crime because of law suits.

Its sad that many black people would rather live in communities equal to haiti or liberia rather than crime free communities. dont you notice that not one other nationality wants to live in the same communites as black people. We love the disrespectful, no discipline,no self control, aggresive, animalistic rebel because we feel hes a revolutionary going against the man.
OUR COMMUNITIES WILL NEVER BE CRIME FREE,WE WILL HAVE THE WORST COMMUNITIES OF ALL NATIONALITIES IN THE COUNTRY, THE MURDER RATE WITH BLACK MEN WILL RISE,MORE BLACK MEN WILL HAVE BEEN INCARCERATED THAN EVER BEFORE,DRUGS WILL BE SOLD ON EVERY CORNER AND WE WILL HAVE DESTROYED OURSELVES. S**t like this been goin on since the 1920. Back then it wasn’t no dope dealing, gandbangin or kids not listenin to their parents back then but the police is still doin the samethings now that they was doin back then. It mite b some unruley kids or a lot of black on black crimes now, but crackaz in blue been doin this b4 this happened. Funny how people 4get what was done to us in the past but now saying its black people fault that its still happening. Protect and serve = protect their indenity while they serve you an ass whoopin.

You mite be right because we already know NOT ALL BUT SOME black cops feel the same way about black folks as white cops but I garantee you that if the kid was white or the school was mostly white the situation would have been totallt different.

I have seen plenty of white kids act a fool like this in my city. Even on trutv they even show white kids starting riots after a sporting event plenty of times and no it wasn’t the same footage. I will amit we got some bad kids that’s black but white kids aint angels either.

The bottom line is this was an unfortunate incident, but hopefully a lesson was learned on both sides. I will never blindly give “our people” a free pass and say that they should go against authority or fight the powers that be, but a line has to be drawn somewhere. There is a such thing as police brutality as brought to the light with such incidents as the L.A. Police beating of Rodney King and several other high profile incidents. We need to be accountable for our actions but cops need to be held accountable for their actions as well. If they get enough misconduct complaints against them or enough of their abuse caught on tape, maybe they will change their tactics of policing.

These comments are very well thought out. And I believe that the posters really mean well and believe in what they are saying. I spent 8 years of my life investigating complaints against Police Officers. And the number one reason some of those cops got away with they abuses is that “we” don’t report what we saw. I spent many evenings away from my family trying to get justice for citizens who complained about police officer misconduct. The frustrating part was always having to try and convince people to come forward and tell what they saw. No who do “we” have to blame? It is our community and an incident occurs and there were 50 to 100 people in a courtyard and NO ONE SAW ANYTHING! Everybody gossips about one happened but I can’t get a single witness statement and it becomes Police Officers word against victim word. A lot of people would not commit anything to writing. So who in fact EMPOWERS those few cops who are corrupt? The members of the community who sit by and watch their friends get beaten, abuse or framed and say nothing. My Chief of Police was black and the Mayor was Black and I had my Chief’s full authority to accrue overtime, re-assign officers, and/ or consult with the Prosecutor’s Office to deal with officer misconduct. Too many times I could not prove anything because PEOPLE WOULD NOT SIMPLY TELL THE TRUTH. The way for us to combat Police Misconduct is to turn off that damn television and educate ourselves about the Law, The Use of Force policies of our Police Agencies and Public Records laws where we love. But “we” get on camera and get further exploited by the Evening News when we are reacting emotionally to a tragedy and not using the power that we do have! TV does not offer an education abut the Law, but I guarantee you that the Public Library does!!
MrWantSomeNewBooty is correct in that complaints and video go a long way. But a complaint with no substantiation isn’t worth it. But if a citizen has educated themselves with knowledge about the Law – then they are prepared to protect themselves from abuse. Cussing, fussing and crying on camera never helped any victim. But I will offer you this: I handled a case where four white cops and a Hispanic cop wrote statements against a black female cop for making a racial slur against a black citizen. Now imagine that?

Real_Bumblecot – When are we as black people going to start policing ourselves? It all starts with an individual decision. Are you going to put your hands on your girlfriend or are you going to walk away? Are you going to fight with the guy you grew up with or are you going to talk about it? While we are putting pistols in our waistbands or box cutters in our purses, do we ever think to STOP and do something different? You are correct in that we as a people have been abused in America. That is history. But I have personally risked my life hundreds of times to AVOID HAVING TO TAKE THE LIFE OF A MISGUIDED BLACK MAN in the line of duty. We have got to become strong as individuals and then as a people. And talking trash, accusing Y.T. for every ill in our community is not the way. It starts at home. Period. If we don’t educate and raise our kids to respect life and who they are, how will they ever be able to become strong black men. The war we are fighting cannot be won with fists or guns. Period. Education and knowledge are the only weapons that give us any chance at all.

MissNymphos – I you already haven’t, have your husband sit down and explain his Departments Use of Force Policies. A handcuffed person can under some Departmental Policies, a taser and/or pepper spray can be used on an uncooperative suspect. The suspect not having a weapon would not preclude an officer from using force to gain control of a suspect. A taser in most Departmental Policies that I have reviewed is considered that same level of force as pepper spray. And both pepper spray and tasers are the LOWEST level of force besides empty hand control techniques (or PPCT – Pressure Point Control Techniques). And in a crowd situation, PPCT are not practical sometimes. I didn’t not like what I saw on the video, but based on my knowledge and experience, the officers actions were justified. I don’t like to see force used on any child (no matter the color), but I also saw a child who was out of control and not responding to verbal commands. If the officer wrestles with the suspect, then are their enough officers their to control the crowd and protect the officer? No there weren’t. So he has the the minimum level of force to detain the suspect with least amount of risk to himself. Crowd situations are some of the most dangerous that Law Enforcement have to deal with. GiGi_Ambition – If 23 Police Officers told you that the force was excessive without knowledge of that Police Departments Use of Force Policies, then they merely offered you their “unqualified opinion” and nothing more. At 17 years old, I had a 350 pound bench press and was a talented boxer. No cop was going to easily restrain me without some serious help. Trying to restrain a person isn’t “self defense”, it is a totally different level of training and requires different techniques. And an Officer is doing that while trying to watch out for fellow officers and maintaining situational awareness. I may have been able to restrain this young man without using a taser, but I am a different person with different skills and physical attributes that the officer in the video. So maybe that officer in the video used more force that I would have needed, but that does not make his force excessive or a violation of his Departmental Policies. I expect that the 23 officers are aware of that also. But if I can spare the time, I may research it and post the results!!!

Well there is always going to be a debate. I really don’t want to debate anyone. My mission now is to empower people. And that is accomplished by educating them. Kicking chairs and pointing fingers never freed any slaves or moved a pile of stones. If “we” want to prevent abuse from happening, we have to educate our kids so that they don’t stand round trying to “see the action” when trouble happens. If we want to seek justice against those that commit any act of abuse – then we have to learn the laws and rules so that we don’t get lost in the administrative part of society. SO ALL OF US THAT POSTED OPINIONS REGARDING THIS MATTER – LETS TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN HOW TO FIGHT WITH OUR MINDS AND NOT OUR FISTS OR OUR ANGER.
