This link in the middle of the story really pisses me off.

Why shouldn’t they have won if they were the best? This site hollers racism at things as little as the way the main character spoke in Princess and the Frog, but then go and do reverse racist s**t like asking if a white sorority should have won? If a black guy won a square dancing competition, I’m sure it would be headline news here, but when the white folks best us at our own game (they killed it, be honest…I thought they were like…an all albino step group) we ask “well should they have been able to win in the first place?”

If we want racism to end, we have to stop being racist. Simple.

ZTA was on point and they deserve to win. How do you expect to have & keep unity between the different GLOs if they can’t give credit to another organization for doing a great job, I thought unity(brother&sisterhood) was why people join these groups.

I see why so many younger black people are choosing to pledge multi-cultural GLOs instead of the narrow mindedness of the D9s.

I hate sore losers. Unfortunately we can be some of the biggest haters on the planet sometimes. We hate to see anyone else do something as well or better than us. We try to diminish the accomplishments of other races who box, play basketball, rap, dance, sing whatever. These girls’ routine raised the stepping game to a whole new level. But we’re too busy putting significance on race to give them their props. Like it or not, ZTA set a whole new standard for stepping and that routine is the one to beat.

Well I was there that night and those girls killed it. They deserved first place. After the winners were announced people actually booed. I was disapointed I mean don’t be a sore loser. Afterwords I heard a woman say that sprite gave those white people our money and how we originated stepping and they came and stole it like they do everything else.

sarahmina… not always true about blacks being canned before the whites. As a matter of fact, where my husband works (government) they redo the lists for layoffs to make sure they skip over blacks, women and older employees (minorities) and let the higher-ranked whites go first.

Gotta admit, ZTA’s execution was tighter than the AKA’s. Both were creative, but the AKA’s were a bit wobbly with some of the stunts and their cadence lost control at the end. ZTA’s were as tight as the frat’s tend to be.

I don’t see how Sprite can take back the original winners and call it a tie just because people don’t like the results. The fact that stepping has deeply African roots shouldn’t bar someone in America from participating or winning a competition. Many African Americans have adopted activities that were originally seen as Caucasian such as skateboarding, golf, heavy metal bands, just a few I can think of off the top of my head. It would honestly be the most hypocritical thing in the world to say that white girls shouldn’t win a step competition.

@rome_z255 our ppl are too deep in the gutters to even try to understand what it’s all about. As you stated there comes a point in time when you just need to pick up a book…read and talk to your elders and know YOUR history as told by your ancestors. Our culture, inventions, music, style, habits are easily being uprooted and passed off as if someone else put in the hard work and labor to create. Of course some things come naturally for us but it’s our culture no one else shares theres with us. We are the only ones that are willing to teach but never given credit. Blacks were initially denied participation.. we overcame that and excelled .. just because “stepping is a cultural thing doesnt mean that others cant learn from it .. like it and want to participate .. it can’t be both ways .. some Blacks want all that is available in the world while guarding our culture .. share and share alike!
