I’m from St. Louis, and the area where this bus beating happened is in the metro area. Belleville is a predominantly White town, and there wasn’t racial harmony to start with…the White people act like they’re stuck in a time warp when it comes to race relations, and the Black people usually just shrug it off as Belleville Whites being Belleville Whites. This wasn’t an issue for Limbaugh when W was in office, nor when Clinton, Pa Bush, or Reagan were in office…because it didn’t serve his cause. This statement is not an admission of racism and to think so is ridiculous. Limbaugh is taking a well known and doc**ented liberal argument about homsexuality being a part of a person and becasue it is we must accept that person and the way that they were born. He was making the point that if someone is born a racist, which is an attitude that many black people are taught and beleive, then they and their racism should be accepted. He was not promoting racism or segregation.

Honestly, even reading the transcript without hearing the dialogue, I know he was being sarcastic because that’s how he is. Born and reared in Upstate, SC, I began public school (preschool actually) at the age of two or maybe three. What people need to get to though is that just because blacks were freed from slavery, doesn’t mean they had an equal opportunity. And I’m not talking about Jim Crow laws and the like. I’m talking about the struggle they had to find food and a place to live once they were told they had to leave this or that plantation. So, it was a hardship from the first steps they took, let alone what would follow.

Another problem is the media pays so much attention to the guy. He’s accomplished nothing, in real terms. Ok, he has a national radio show. Big deal. What’s he done for education, institutionally? Or any other major social venture? Not a thing. So, his influence is superficial. When he’s gone, so is what little influence he has. All he can do is get an audience.

Well, one last comment. Hate is such a funny thing. Ultimately, hate, hates it’s self. Thus, ultimately you will destroy yourself. But then it’s a funny way of working.

You see, it starts with those feelings of omnipotence I mentioned before. Hate makes you feel invincible. But, this simply blinds you to your weaknesses, and we all have them. And when you can’t see your weaknesses, you can’t fix them. And it’s those weaknesses that bring you down.

Another blindness or example of it is that when you befriend someone, they can hate you but that only means they hated you to begin with. But when you hate someone, you only invite either that person or someone else, to hate YOU, in return. So, all you can do is create enemies.

Now, you might find any number of people to hate with you. But what about when the people you hate are gone? Now who’s to blame?

It might seem like everything will be fine when the bad people are gone. But that’s the delusion, once again. “Just hate THOSE people”. “Just them”.

And that’s another funny part. Once THOSE people are gone, someone will have a certain way about them that they shared with one of THOSE people.

So, being different and being similar, have equal value. Being different gives you individual rights. Being similar, gives you equal rights to all others. Or, being different entitles you to be considered for your uniqueness and being similar entitles you to be considered as a member of a given community.

So, to the haters. You’ll only destroy yourselves in the end because you use differences and similarities of character, as tools of destruction. And that wears them down, and they will break eventually.

By affirming the rights of others, you make them stronger.

Although tempting, I will decline to question the “Blackness” of some of my fellow bloggers. However, I will submit that Rush is the face of the traditional, Right Wing extremist Republican party. The oral diarrhea that spews from Rush is nothing short of typical and highly expected. He’s the same type of man that argues on the one hand that racism no longer exists, and that minorities have the same socio-ecomonic opportunities as majority whites, while promoting hate from his proverbial soap box. The only real question we should have about Rush is if these views are truly his, or if these are the views he’s chosen to accept as a societal mercenary and verbal assasin. Think about it. If racism were truly dead and our society has truly progressed, there would be no medium for Rush to spread his propoganda, because there would be no fan following. Whites have made a point of calling our people “racist”, when we point out the racial inequities in this country and stand in protest against it. In general it cannot be said that we have harmed whites, or given them reason to justify the hate that they have and still direct toward us.
