Today at church an inter-racial couple had a tiff in the church cafeteria. I noticed that the woman (white) was acting all self righteous toward me as I tried to defend the idea of marriage (they are thinking about getting hitched)as something that has to do with both their families. She got all self righteous and said her boyfriend (mixed black and Indian) needed to go with her flow and I said she needed to consider his family and how they feel (they can’t stand her and don’t want the couple to get married–they really hate her). If it doesn’t–if CIVIL LAW or its implementation is unjust–it is required by God–to disobey CIVIL LAW–as MLK did–by declaring ENGLISH LAW when it came to the fortunes of the Black RACE—and his ability to create economy for himself, his family, his race–UNLAWFUL–by right of Divine LAW.

What is the problem with that in a society which has been dominated by English Law since 1776? This English Law–while “freeing” the black slave in 1865–under the Emancipation Proclamation and Act of 1865 by then President Abraham Lincoln, did not create a system–whereby–the newly freed black slave–with his 40 acres and a mule–could bring his crops to market–and sell them–at a fair market price. The English Law did not provide an avenue whereby he could sustain himself and his family, in a viable economic manner.

By 1963–black poverty–was at such a height–English Law had to be amended or added to it–Civil Rights Law–working toward–as its aim and goal—the economic viability of the black and minority races–which had languished in poverty–since 1865–all the while–being declared “free men.” Free to do what? Be unlawfully cheated out of a fair market price for their crops? To be actively prevented from pursuing the creation of wealth and future wealth for generations of black families?

In order to correct–economic inequality–that led to generations of black poverty–The English Law–instituted another law–Civil Rights Law–to amend it. Every black man should be able to bring his products and services to market and get a fair market price for these goods and services.

Is that happening? Are all black men bringing their goods and services to market and getting a fair market price at this time?

In my estimation—this is the goal and aim of creating black wealth for generations to come.

All wealth creation is imbedded in the axiom of buying and selling goods and services. This requires the black race to provide goods and services for sale in order to create wealth.

Is this happening? If not, why not? What are the current impediments that need to be legislated?

In 1865–legislation was designed on behalf of the black race in America that obviously did not do the job.

In 1963–legislation was designed on behalf of the black and minority races in America and what I am hearing is that this legislation did not solve black poverty.

My question? What legislation needs to be enacted to solve these economic inequities that were not solved by legislation in 1865 and 1963?

I want some real solutions–lasting solutions–effective solutions-legislative solutions to END BLACK POVERTY!

You know what I don’t want? I want to stop wasting my time bashing Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Talk Radio, Fox News, and anybody else that takes away the time and work needed to actually SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

In my estimation it is counter productive–to drop the F-Bomb–to be constantly angry and enraged at the white race and their spokespeople. Waste of time!

God gives us anger–TO SOLVE OUR PROBLEMS! It is the FORCE DU JOUR–the power of the day–put in the right place–at the right time–focused–on the right problem–the heart of the problem–to solve the problem–to have a goal and aim.

Don’t you see how much time it has taken to drop F-Bombs at Ann Coulter and how could that anger better be used to actually solve Black Poverty?

Anger and rage are a waist of time. They are a luxury the black and minority races cannot afford. Anger is a capital sin when used destructively. It is a gateway sin to other sins–violence, crimes, domestic violence, alcoholism, drug use and addiction, revenge, and a host of other social ills which have piled up in my community of color.

My community of color has the highest rates of suicide, unwed mothers, broken marriages, drug and alcohol abuse, criminal behavior that exists in the United States. How about your community of color? Are your stats off the charts like my stats are?

Know what me and my husband are doing instead of blaming whitey? Do you know what me and my community of color are doing instead of being angry and rageful?

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT! CREATING WEALTH! MAKING NEW BUSINESSES!

Anger and rage and pointing the finger at whitey will just leave you poor and broke. Blaming anyone–accusing everyone–will dissipate your energy–leave you drained–give you no time for creating wealth.

Listen man, I JUST WANT TO GET TO WORK AND MAKE SOME DAMN MONEY!

Let’s make some damn money for our wives, husbands, children, families and generations. Let’s stop wasting our time listening to the white chatter boxes who have never lived black or minority! What do they know?

My grandmama told me one thing as she crossed the border into the US from Canada and marked “DARK” on her immigration papers, “Stay in school Betty, get good grades, get an education, get to work, find a husband, a good one, have a family, pray, go to church, live honestly, don’t cheat anyone, live right, a good and moral life, love your husband, love your kids, teach them to do what is right, pay your bills, forgive everyone, don’t cheat on your husband, take care of the family, don’t worry so much about money but use the money you have wisely, save for a rainy day, don’t waste food, be a good person, stay out of trouble, respect your parents, don’t argue with cops, suffer your indignities with grace and perseverance, let God take vengeance, don’t take revenge, don’t live in anger or you will ruin your health with high blood pressure or even cancer.”

My grandmama told me all these things years ago. Just work hard and make money. Mind your own business. Take care of your own family. Stay out of trouble and don’t screw your life up with alcohol and drugs.

I have done that for 50 years. I have been married for 26 years with three grown children. No one is in jail. No one is on drugs. My three children are all educated and working. Two of my three kids are married. My youngest son will get married after he graduates from college next year.

I don’t have alot of money. I would like to make more to help my adult children and my grandchildren.

These damn arguments about race–all this damn anger over race–dilutes my energy–take the energy–and time–away from making serious money.

Why are we wasting our damn time on this stuff over and over when we could just be making business–making money–creating legislation–that would solve this issue?

Personal responsibility. Self Reliance. Dogged determination. Faith in God. Hard Work. Forgiveness. Prayer. This is how I live and even though I am not a millionaire who has a Harvard Education–as a woman of color– I am wealthy.

Father Figures
Yes, the numbers prove too many black fathers are irresponsible. Now what?

My father grew up without his father. Actually, he’s not entirely sure it was his biological father, but in any case, the man left when my father was 6 years old. Growing up without a father had a devastating effect on his material and emotional well-being, and he constantly tells me about the hardships he experienced. He survived, however, and would eventually thrive intellectually and spiritually—no thanks to the paternal grandfather I will never know.

What caused my grandfather’s absence?

What is to blame—or, perhaps, who is to blame—for the nearly seven out of 10 black children who are now being raised mainly by single black females?

For as long as I can remember, a war has been raging inside me over these questions. It has been a conflict with three armies of thought. My more conservative intellectual army has argued valiantly that black males’ irresponsibility is primarily to blame. My more radical, scholarly army has claimed intrepidly that society is chiefly to blame. My more liberal, cerebral position is that it is a little bit of both.

My conflicted thinking on this matter is emblematic of the larger societal clash of ideas that has persisted for decades. This clash was thrown into sharp relief in the reaction to Barack Obama’s now controversial Father’s Day speech. In that speech, the presumptive Democratic nominee for president said: “If we are honest with ourselves, we’ll admit that too many fathers also are missing—missing from too many lives and too many homes. They have abandoned their responsibilities, acting like boys instead of men.”

Conservatives championed this statement. Radicals derided it. Liberals like the Rev. Jesse Jackson chastised Obama for not talking enough about society’s responsibilities.

In the end, Obama adopted the traditional liberal line, telling reporters on his campaign plane that his “argument is simply … not an ‘either-or’ proposition, it’s a ‘both-and’ proposition.”

But which proposition is right? Who and/or what is to blame? That has yet to be settled. Are the conservatives correct? The liberals? The radicals?

This war of ideas should never have been a war at all. The conservatives are correct to emphasize black male irresponsibility. The radicals echo reality when they underscore society’s role. The liberals should highlight accurately that it is a little bit of both.

How can they all be right?

It is indisputable that men of any race who walk away from their children are irresponsible. And it is just as indisputable that societal conditioning is the reason black men who do this are irresponsible; either they are conditioned to be irresponsible, or they are naturally more irresponsible than other groups of men.

Again, we all have to wrap ourselves around the fact that the primary reason black men in America walk away from their children is their irresponsibility. “We need fathers to realize that responsibility does not end at conception,” Obama said on Father’s Day. “We need them to realize that what makes you a man is not the ability to have a child—it’s the courage to raise one.”

There is no disputing that men who walk away from their children are irresponsible. There is no getting away from the conclusion that they are irresponsible. And those black men in America who are not taking care of their children are generally irresponsible, and they should be demonstrably chastised for that.

Furthermore, it should be noted that in terms of taking care of their children, black men are the most irresponsible men in America: 65 percent of black households are led by single women. Compare that with a single-parent rate of 37 percent among Latinos and 23 percent among whites. (For a number of reasons that I won’t delve into here, there are actually more black, white and Latino men in their children’s lives than these statistics suggest.)

But why are so many more black men irresponsible when it comes to taking care of their children than Latino men or white men? There are two possible explanations: nature or nurture.

In the nature argument, black men, in comparison to white and Latino men, have more of a natural proclivity to walk away from their children; in the nurture argument, the irresponsibility is bred into black men as part of their societal conditioning.

Using nature to explain the inequality directly positions black men as inferior to Latino and white men, at least in regard to being responsible for one’s kids. To buy into that argument, you’d have to accept that black men are naturally inclined to be more irresponsible concerning their children than any group of men in this nation because God, or whatever higher or scientific power you believe in, made them that way, or so the nature argument goes. To use the natural argument to explain the inequality, one must be treading superiority and inferiority thoughts in the ideological pool of racism—whether consciously, subconsciously or unconsciously.

Personally, I do not believe that black men are naturally inferior to any other group of men in any way. Thus, if you and I are not racists, that leaves one explanation as to why black men are so much more irresponsible than other groups when it comes to taking care of their children—nurture.

Just as the conservatives are unquestionably accurate that black male irresponsibility is the cause of the epidemic of black households headed by single females, radicals are absolutely correct about society’s underlying role, in this case, as the cause of the cause.

You have to agree that something in society—and perhaps more than a single thing: inferior public education, poverty, limited options and access to vocational opportunities, fewer responsible role models, negative media portrayals of black masculinity, etc.—breeds this black male irresponsibility when it concerns taking care of their children.

To ascertain the cause of the cause would require reading the forest of research on this subject, and, instead of chastising these absentee fathers, asking them why they abandoned their children. We would undoubtedly find some solid human reasons, and the solutions to this crisis would come rushing toward us like a boy to a returning father.

Like so many absentee fathers, we’ve removed ourselves from the arena of solutions for too long. Instead, for decades, we’ve been arguing back and forth over who or what is to blame for these catastrophic statistics. That should be obvious by now—the irresponsibility of the black men is to blame. It should be just as obvious that the cause of the irresponsibility of too many black men is our collective irresponsibility as a society.

The only relevant debate now lies in figuring out a solution. Any other exercise would be intellectually irresponsible. The more black men have walked away from their kids, the more we’ve walked away from any bona fide attempt at finding a solution. To bring black men back to their families, we have to return to a discussion about the causes of the cause, and how to reverse it. Only this conversation will save the beloved black family.

The next time i drive on the highway I’ll do my own survey between blks and whts driving habits, i always felt whites were more likely to stop for ten seconds at a stop sign, brake before the light turns red, even use there turn signal before cutting you off, but when it comes to driving fast i never notice any difference between the races if anything they drive faster because of better cars and money to pay speeding ticket. most blacks live in inner cities which means they already pay more for insurance so driving fast only puts you at risk for paying more go figure. personally i think some drive to freakin slow they have nothing to do all day. most blk people have two jobs plus kids to balance between day to day hustle. never never enough time in the day for a man trying to get his hustle on.
