Insurgent congressional candidate Anthony Woods’ life story reads like Aaron Sorkin wrote it—he’s a gay, black Iraq veteran with a Harvard degree. He talks to The Daily Beast’s Benjamin Sarlin about running on his biography.
In every election cycle, there’s one candidate whose life story stands out among the crowd. In 2004, it was Barack Obama; in 2006, it was Vietnam vet Jim Webb. This year, an underdog candidate for U.S. Congress in California is the clear winner and it’s not even close. Anthony Woods’ biography—he’s a gay, black Iraq vet with a Harvard degree—reads like a West Wing script Aaron Sorkin threw into the wastebasket for being too over the top.
Woods, 28, is currently running in a crowded Democratic field to replace Rep. Ellen Tauscher in California’s 10th district, which includes parts of Sacramento and San Francisco’s East Bay area. (Tauscher is leaving Congress to serve in Obama’s State Department; there’s no date yet for the special election.) Though he was briefly an aide to Gov. David Paterson in New York, Woods is the political unknown in the field, which includes California Lt. Gov. John Garamendi, State Sen. Mark DeSaulnier, and Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan.

I’m sure that there was EVERY thing going on in that city including,Sex out of wedlock(adultery),cheating,gambling ,lying,and every thing self righteous straight people today indulge in.If anyone have read the story correctly and THINK AND ASK,”WHAT MAN WOULD GIVE UP HIS TWO DAUGHTERS TO A WHOLE CITY TO BE HAD SEX OR WHAT EVER WITH?” Mind you that those girls were virgins,and from the writing they had to be young 14 to 16 or so years old.Lot should have been destroyed along with every other man and woman in that city that was condemned for offering up his daughters to save two strangers. That’s so cool that he’s running. In regards to the haters, most of them are ignorant about gay individuals anyway, so I really don’t pay attn. to them for the most part. Congrats to Woods.

I am appalled at the negative comments posted here with regards to the sexual orientation of the gentleman running for a congressional seat. Hate is evil and the concept of proposing to shot and kill someone is as heinous as the act of killing itself. This is an abomination. What do these haters feel when Gay individuals are sexual? Who do these haters think are spreading HIV/Aids to Black Females? What is the purpose of attempting to control how someone expresses their sexual proclivity with another consenting partner? Who are Straight people to impose their Heterosexuality on others? Equally, Gays have not right to impose Homosexuality on others. Just remember that Homosexuality exists in all forms of life, and God did not make any mistakes in my book. So, haters need to be aware of their evilness and judgment.
All I can say is that the people most against gays are usually gay themselves and hate that part of their being. I couldn’t care less what he does, he isn’t running for my state.
