While the state of New York is set to give its first marriage licenses to same-sex couples in two weeks, one senator who vehemently opposed gay marriage accused Mayor Michael Bloomberg of paying four Republican senators to vote in favor of the legislation.

Sen. Ruben Diaz (D-N.Y.) wrote in a press release that senators Stephen Saland, Mark Grisanti, James Alesi and Roy McDonald sold their votes to the millionaire for $10, 300 each. While the senator had no tangible evidence for his claims, he said the “rumors” came from impressions made while reading New York newspapers weeks after the legislation was passed.

Diaz, who was the only Democrat who didn’t support the same-sex marriage bill because of his strong religious stance, summoned state Attorney General Eric Scheiderman to investigate the matter.

Before same-sex marriage was passed, Bloomberg spent a great deal of time and money (reportedly $100, 000) to pass gay marriage. He also threatened politicians that he would not financially support them if they voted against the bill.
