GOOD NEWS: Ludacris Gives Away 20 Cars To Struggling Workers

MORROW, Ga. – Grammy-winning rapper Ludacris has given away 20 cars to people who wrote about their struggles to keep their jobs for a lack of wheels of their own.

Ludacris said he was taken aback after reading thousands of essays by people struggling or unable to buy cars needed to get to and from work or find jobs. The 31-year-old rapper felt he could step in and move them ahead, partnering with a suburban Atlanta dealership for Sunday’s giveaway.

“People are getting laid off, and now are looking for jobs,” Ludacris said. “To be efficient, you need some transportation of your own to get there. That’s why I wanted to give back to those who need it.”

Each of the used vehicles included free gas for 30 days. Winning contestants were responsible for tags, registration, tax and insurance. About 4,000 contestants submitted a 300-word essay to the rapper’s foundation, explaining why they deserved a car.

One of the most touching stories Ludacris read was by Mading Duor.

Duor described how he moved to the United States six years ago after his mother, father, and five brothers and sisters were killed in Sudan. The man also wrote that a son was killed by a drunken driver in Atlanta a few years back.

“His story touched my heart,” Ludacris said. “He’s endured so much in his life and he’s still here standing. I’m very proud to have helped him.”

Duor, 33, has been able to keep a steady job at a school, but each day he felt stressed about how he was going to get to work. No longer.

“I’m so happy, that I’m nervous,” said Duor, who won a Nissan Maxima. “When I look at my new car, I say to myself, ‘Is this really happening?’”

Crystal Beauford, a single mother who used to ride the bus to two jobs and school, now has a Saturn Ion. The 26-year-old college student doesn’t know how to drive the stick-shift vehicle, but said she’ll learn.

“This is going to help me out so much,” Beauford said. “It’s a blessing.”

Ludacris won Grammys for Best Rap Album for “Release Therapy” and Best Rap Song for “Money Maker.”

    Its nice to give to less unfortunate people, especially coming from the streets and seeing struggle. Not everyone is able to get out the poor zones. That was good Ludacris.

    Giving back doesn’t have to start with the rich & famous…it starts with each of us who has something inside to give:

    If you know someone in your neighborhood or family who is trying to make it…give them a ride to work or a lift to the bus stop that’s 10 blks away…

    If you know someone who may need a meal to feed their family tonight, share what’s in your refrigerator…

    The elderly lady that sits in her house all alone month after month, could use some company once in a while….she just needs someone to listen to her stories of days gone by…

    A single mother who works [2] jobs, could use some alone time….maybe someone could give her a day off once-a-month….while you become a big Sister or big Brother for the day…

    That’s the beauty of Americans, rich or poor we’ve always been a nation of people who give….rich or poor let’s not allow the circ**stances of our economy overwhelm us….we know what to do….like Ludacris did….
    JUST DO IT!

    Its good to hear of celebrities helping others. This also lets you know who never forgets where they come from. We may never know all Luda has been through or have seen. But this gives me an bigger idea of who he is inside.

    see this is the reason for god allowin people to have success and money, to give back and bless other people, not for you to hoard your money and just live out your own fantisies, like I heard that BABY buys a new car every year, and of coourse he puts beats in it and rims ect..at least 50k or more just for a car,I mean does anyone really need 10, 15, 20 cars, or a new car every year just cause you can..more people with money should be doin things like this, they feel cause they give a faceless donation to some charity that they are doin somethin, naw, they need to stand out like LUDA did and do somethin grand and public so everyone can see it cause slowly but surely the gap between the 5% and the rest of us is gettin larger to where prety soon we will be like other countries, you either rich or poor

    I have always felt that instead of these celebrities spending all this excess money on accessories that they only use for one event, should be doing things like buying people cars or paying their rent for a year to help out. Ludacris definitely gets props for this…If more celebrities stepped up and did this, more people would want to work together.
