Good to hear. This country needs it’s students to be more proficient at math in order for America to stay ahead.

I see when there’s something positive that happens in the black community, we don’t come out in droves to comment on it but when it’s a negative story everybody has something to say, whether it’s bashing each other or just putting in your 2 cents, I might be a bit premature with this but the hell with it because I’ve seen a faster response after a story is put up than this.

It is odd how I just so happened to luck up on this page. There would be more comments if BP decided this should be on their front page…but I digress. I’m VERY proud to say that my niece is counted in this number! AND I really want to commend the teachers and parents of these children. JOB WELL DONE!!! Now let’s see how far we can go. How about trying to get the Science and English scores up now?! I’m very optimistic about the state of our children, and this gives me hope!

umm but get this..how come this picture is NOT of high school students…I PERSONALLY know some of these people..and they go to the University of Texas @ Arlington…WOW!!! Maybe that’s why this isn’t on the front page!!!

Well C4pricorn, I agree with taking pictures of people in the article…but to say these people haven’t done anything is not accurate. All of the people that I know in this pic have either earned their degrees or are well on their way to graduation. There are plenty of neighborhood heroes,mentors, and role models pictured above. Although they aren’t all my friends..I can still recognized outstanding individuals…and there are some pictured above…and not kids. But with that being said…BP needs to get on their game!!

I would just like to give big ups to the students in the area for their achievement and just give them some words of encouragement to keep them pushing towards their dreams and ambitions. Do not allow man to make you or break you, know who you are and where you come from an put God first and you will be okay. Whats up my bp family, God is good bc we have another day to eat, breath, an make changings and be around love ones. Well just to let everybody know I am going back to school this semester an taking marketing.I also started my own business making an selling jewelery. Im so bless just thinking about those days with no hope or direction an GOD brought me through so many trial and tribulations and i am living proof that he loves us more than we love ourselves. Yall the other day I was watching a preacher out of bahamas an he stated that people are loosing their faith over a job. He said a job is not meant to last and can be taken at anytime, but you cannot let it break you or make you. The bible said that man will always have to work, or you will not eat. So basically do not let a job handicapp you in your other skills rather it be cooking, drawing, sewing, writing, speaking,hairdresser, or wholesaling. My people please do not forget about bartering which is the exchange of product or services for something in return for something of value. It is time for all my people to move up and be that skill jack of all trades that our people have embedded into us over the past 200 over years. Life is great and if you continue praying each day faithfully and having patience doors of opportunity will open up for you. Remember GOD do not like busy bodies. I pray for all my christian family to open their minds and house up to christ an let him in again, trust me its a beautiful thing. Sow your ties, give to the poor, feed the hungry, clothed the unclothed, write you legislature, give back to your community,and have FAITH, bc GOD said he will not leave us or forsake us, he gave his only son for our sins and we are not even worthy of it. I believe I took this test when I was in 8th grade. I was in the top 1% in several categories in math and reading. The other categories were top 15% and above.

Good Morning to all and i must say that BP has finally found some good and positive news to report on the Black community. Thanks BP and i challenge you to balnace your news reporting.

I know for most Black Americans, i mean those with roots here, this is good news and probably good news to non Black Americans too. I for one has never doubted we as black people were incapable of higher achievement, you see i am from the caribbean and i know once the playing field is level what we can achieve. I know i will be hearing many more good news about our academic achievements from our black students not just from Texas but from all states within the union as we silently put the haters like that crazy Noble Price winner (Dr. Wilson)theory that Black people in general are incapable of higher achievment to rest.

Good going youths keep the good work up, if you can be at the top of the game in Mathematics then you can be on the top of your game in anything. Congrats to all.

So proud of these Kids. Black students who actually helped elevate the states national ranking instead of being accused of lowering it. Thats what I call representing!

And I went through all that trouble in high school to get an asian kid to do my math homework when over half my math class was black and mexican. Lol how the tables have turned.

I’ve recently moved to TX & I am not surprised. The curriculum standards here are exactly what they should be…high! I am excited for all of these bright minds & can’t wait to see how they take over the world.

does this have to be a race thing!!! but thats texas they have the best educations system in the country and they dont spend any where near as much as DC who has the crappiest education in the country.

I AM BORN AND RAISED IN TEXAS AND I HAVE MIXED FEELINGS ABOUT THE NATIONAL REPORT CARD. WHILE IT IS A GOOD THING TO SEE AND HAVE PROOF THAT OUR CHILDREN ARE NOT EXAMPLES OF THE STEREOTYPES WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN, BUT THIS CAN ALSO SPARK A FIRE WHEN OUR CHILDRENS SCORES DONT LOOK SO GOOD… THEY MIGHT FEEL THAT THEY ARE JUST BEING COMPARED, AND THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT TO BE A RACIAL ISSUE. Black adult’s have failed Black children ,because most Black adult’s or not Pro Education which keep’s the whole race trailing behind every other group.Black’s focus on entertainment to much not education .you often hear about a step show or some big party ,but how often do you hear Black Science fair,or public math contest in the Black community.(NEVER)
