HBCU Opening Boarding School For Black Males?
Kentucky State University President Mary Sias says the school is trying to find funding to open a boarding school for Black males.
Sias told The State Journal of Frankfort that the proposal is part of an initiative to increase the number of Black men who earn college diplomas. She says high school students would live in campus dorms, have their own teachers and an on-site principal at the historically Black college in Frankfort.
The pilot program could start in the fall of 2010 if KSU receives enough federal and grant funding. Sias says there would be room for 30 to 50 high school students to participate.

I think this is great. It is kind of like the Upward Bound program. And now Black males can see that there are other successful people from diverse backgrounds that made a difference. Kudos!!!
I think its a pretty sound idea. Hopefully if this pilot program is successful, more programs will become available
@Shango: Your close mindedness isn’t even humorous. For starters, its an educational program designed to increase college graduates among black males. Secondly, the program is located at a co-ed college campus, in city filled with females. I don’t know how low budget you are, but nothing is stopping these young men from leaving (or staying on) campus and interacting with females on a regular basis.

I would encourage this pilot program for now. Something needs to be done to increase black males earning not only diplomas but degrees as well. Can you imagine the day more black males in college than in the justice system?
I think that same sex schools are archaic and useless. The president of Kentucky st. has great intentions though. Also there’s an all Black male college already. It’s named Morehouse. lol!!! But I feel like these type of schools is breeding ground of undercover pedos trying to take advantage of young/impressionable Black males.

While I think it’s commendable, I would like to know what protections would be in place to avoid the children being taken advantage of sexually by instructors or their peers. I think there are those who would agree that it is quite possible to “make” a person a homosexual. There are many who are “in recovery”; check out love them back to holiness.com (or .org) for the other side of the issue. There are members of a growing community of former homosexuals who tell you that they were indoctrinated into the lifestyle of homosexuality. The concern regarding homosexuality and young, impressionable males is a very real one. Many same gender schools are considered breeding grounds for this sort of thing.
Shyt its about time I think a private school is exactly what we need to keep these young men off the street! Take away the guns and the ignorance and give them a book and a future!

wow what an a-hole. I think a boarding school would be a excellent place for children to learn to be productive adults. These types of schools have been around for ages and have produced some of the best and brightest.
