Nationally Renowned Black Harvard Professor Arrested, Claims Racism
Black scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. is accusing a Massachusetts police department of racism after being arrested while trying to get into his locked home near Harvard University.
Police say they were called to the home Thursday afternoon after a woman reported seeing a man try to pry open the front door.
They say that they ordered the man to identify himself and that Gates refused. According to a police report, Gates then called the officer a racist and said, “This is what happens to black men in America.”
Police declined to comment Monday. Gates referred comment to his lawyer, fellow Harvard scholar Charles Ogletree, who did not immediately return a call.
Gates is the director of Harvard’s W.E.B. Du Bois (doo-BOYS’) Institute for African and African American Research.

Henry Louis “Skip” Gates, Jr., University professor and director of the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Studies, was arrested on Thursday at his Cambridge home for disorderly conduct, according to the Cambridge Police Department’s daily online public log.
The online report said that the 58-year-old professor was arrested shortly past noon after “exhibiting loud and tumultuous behavior.” Joanne Kendall, Gates’ assistant, confirmed that the professor had been arrested but said that he was away from Cambridge for the summer filming a documentary and would only be making periodic returns. She said that Gates is not in police custody.

A black man at the door of a nice house,some racist neighbor saw a n****r,then called the police,because he could’nt possibly live there,how could a n****r afford a nice home? Blacks are suppose to live in parks and zoos.the upper class live in the projects.the text book excuse for harrassing blacks is to say that got a call of some n****r breaking the law,remember the man shot down in front of his apt.door by new york cops while trying to show his ID.
1.) How are you going to be arrested for being loud?
2.) Some people do jump to conclusions or play the race card. However simply stating the fact that something or someone is racist is not playing the race card, it’s merely stating a fact.
3.) I have had similar experiences with nosy white people in suburban neigborhoods. Luckily they didn’t call the police, ’cause I would have been arrested too.
4.) Maybe the cop was just doing his job by investigating. But imagine some is on YOUR property asking you all types of questions. You can’t raise your voice on your own property.
5.) It is not at all true that all people who are disorderly are arrested. I have seen white people let off with a warning at best so many times when they all but assaulted a cop.
We all have those days where we have been pushed to the edge. Especially when it comes to racism. Most blacks let most of it slide. Then someone says one little ignorant ass thing. I say let if go off, I think we all earned that right.
The professor should have known that disorderly conduct knows no color. I think he was looking for attention.
dang the police showed up there mighty fast didnt they ? If some one get shot around here it takes the police a whole hour to arrive.

They assumed that it wasn’t his house, bcuz he was black! He stays in an all white neighborhood, becuz he can afford to, paid his dues to society and to the civil rights movement…he’s not an uncle tom…but a black man who all black men should look up to!
How can you say that about the man, that he think he is white. The man heads Black Studies at Harvard, so he is not ignorant like your ass..There is no such thing as white or black neighborhood. I live anywhere I want to.

LOL at this one. Sir, you are 58 years old , you should KNOW all you had to do was Identify yourself as the Homeowner. I know that you are probably thinking “they only called the police cause i am black” ect ect. But really… you should know better, and be happy somebody was looking out for your property.
