1 Out Of 8 Girls Pregnant At Robeson High School, Chicago

From CBS2Chicago.com:

It is a Chicago public school full of energy and spirit. It has about 800 girls, and 115 of them have something in common – something you might find disturbing.

CBS 2’s Kristyn Hartman reports.

All those young ladies are moms or moms-to-be at Paul Robeson High School. It’s not a school for young mothers, it’s a neighborhood school. And all of the pregnancies have happened, despite prevention talk.

If you want to know why, the people closest to the situation say there’s no simple explanation.

Chicago Public Schools says it does not track the overall number of teen moms in the district. But Robeson Principal Gerald Morrow knows the count at his school in Englewood: 115 young ladies who are expecting.

To put it in perspective, their school pictures would fill roughly six pages of their high school year book.

@sotiag…what you say is BS..no offense though..it is not the fault of government, or whos being a father and who isnt…in order for a young girl to get pregnant, or any woman for that matter, SHE HAS TO SPREAD HER LEGS. Let us put the blame on the culprit. THE TEENAGE GIRLS LETTING IT HAPPEN! Its not the teens parents fault, its not the fault of the community etc…This is exactly why these teens are making these mistakes because NO ONE makes them take responsibilty for it. NO one takes a harsh stand against them when they do it. Instead of people going hard on em, they blame it on everything else except these little fast azz girls. All of us in High School didnt get pregnant…because we chose NOT TO…Why is it we cant hold these little girls accountable like everyone else is for thier own actions? If youre going to arrest grown men who have sex with them, then you may as well arrest the teen girls too..they are just as if not MORE guilty…

Big fuggin deal!! This has been happening. When I was in highschool more than HALF of the girls there were either pregnant, on their second kid, or out to the abortion clinic. There were So many pregnant girls that they couldn’t go to the “maternity schools” because they were full. They sent them to regular school with us. I’m sorry but this epidemic is nothing new..

Being a teenage mother i feel reproduction is beautiful and yes you should wait at least until you graduate from high school but unfortunately these things happen. I blame the system a little because some of these women are put into predic**ents where there forced to be adults because the have to take care of other brothers and sisters or in some cases their parents. I love my family but my oldest sister had twins and put my niece in a situation where she ended up being up at 3am on a school night helping take care OF THEM. Now she say she is to grown for her age which i feel she played a part in. Yes the man is just as reliable as the women but doesnt statistics say that 77% maybe more of these pregnant teenagers are pregnant by a grown man anyway. So do we blame the parents for not reporting this pedifile or do we blame the goverment for knowing that 77% are pregnant by grown men and still dont do anything but issue a ticket, probation, or 30 days in jail. Somebody sure is irresponsible here and i will not put all the blame oon the tenage mother maybe 20%, 20% for the teenage fathers, 50% on these grown men who prey on these children, and the parents for not paying full attention to there child and spending time with them because when not applied it will put them in other situations to gain attention and love of which is not being displayed or taught at home.

There’s no simple explanation for this, indeed. Teen pregnancy is a complex issue that has many sides to the story. But isn’t it tragic that these girls are stigmatized and the men who got them pregnant are not shunned or judged or even known to others so easily…

These girls have a hard road ahead of them. Hard, but not insurmountable. Sexual education, real talk, and being supportive and a listening ear to ALL youth are some ways that can reduce teen pregnancy. Too many teens are alone and not with any guidance. And to reiterate, we need to hold our boys and men accountable for their behavior as well. This issue seems one-sided at times, and I think that needs to change as well.

@maatra…Just a word from the wise…I see the point you trying to make, but when it comes to getting your point across when using sentences with God and Jesus in it. You shouldn’t use curse words. It defeats the point you’re trying to make and makes you look and sound like a hypocrite. Always kill them with kindness instead of bitterness. I’m just saying. I had to learn that as well. But I do understand how ppl just make you mad enough to take it there like that with them.
