That is the stuff tabloid reports are made of, and I for one am offended…The writer didn’t allow room for independent judgement; this is no “news story”, it’s an idiots rant, plain and simple…Not one SHRED of objectivity here..I mean, was this “journalist” on the scene? Are they clairvoyant? What makes them capable of reporting on the ALLEGED perpetrator’s intent or character? This is such a sensitive case wherein many lives were forever impacted, and a city is trying to deal with the tragic outcome. The loss of life is always difficult to come to terms with, especially when it happens to young people in such a sudden and horrid fashion.
IF Ms. Michaels is indeed the perpetrator, there are a number of things to be determined: what was the intent? Was this a pre-meditated act, committed willfully, or voluntarily?
Were the events in question due to mechanical malfunction/failure on the vehicle? The list goes on. Point being, it is very irresponsible for the reporter to style this individual as a monster. If she is the person who was involved in the events that ended the lives of those 5 individuals, is it fair to say what she intended? For all the reporter knows, Ms. Michaels may have been in shock, denial, etc subsequent to the unfolding events, and reacted with fright and flight,which isn’t unusual or necessarily indicative of malicious intent.
We have GOT to be more careful with the words that we use; we can only hope that Ms. Michaels and her family, as well as the victim’s family(ies)receive the necessary strength and comfort with which to sustain themselves through what can probably be described as a horrific, painful ordeal…My prayers are with every and anyone affected by this tragic event. Real people who face the consequences of their actions but maybe she should not have been driving the way she did. And no matter how scared you are initially, after a week you should turn yourself in. Five people were killed due to her lack of judgment and loss of common sense while on the road. Young and stupid sums her up perfectly. And entire family is gone not to mention the other child whose life she also took. And lets not forget about the mother still in critical condition at the hospital. She should be buried under the jail because this is not forgiveable. There are people here in Atlanta whose hearts are bleeding due to this atrocity.

As a mother of six who lives in the Atlanta Area, i’m glad she’s behind bars and will get the punishment she deserves.

I live literally minutes where this occurred. I am not saying I condone anything she did but I can understand that she most likely panicked. I have been in an accident before and especially if you caused it, there are so many thoughts that float through your head, if you think at all. A lot of people are calling her evil and sick, but truthfully have you confessed any of your wrong doings whether it means jail time or not. I hope this sends a message to all the Atlanta borne drivers. I moved to Atlanta from Maryland and these people can NOT drive. It’s not their fault but they seriously need a driving school, and it should be mandantory. In Maryland it takes 19 months to get your license, we all used to complain but we have probably 70% less accidents than Atlanta, not to mention a lot less traffic with the same amount of people!

Furthermore in response to Stylez, Ive caused an accident, it wasn’t as drastic as that, and I was 18. My brakes locked up and I hit the back of a lady’s car and she had like 6 kids in there! I hopped out so fast to make sure her and her kids were okay, I didn’t give a crap about my consequences, I accept responsibility. I believe the outcome of that event was just because of my not leaving the scene like I could have. The lady just said, “We’re good don’t worry about it, let’s leave before we cause a scene.” and left! Her back bumper was jacked too. God honors good deeds even if you’re a believer or not.

We do not know what happened, but i agree with “STYLEZ82″ regarding to someone panicing, when you know you made a mistake and scared to face the outcome,knowing you ain’t really a bad person. In my case I woulda just hold my head and played blind,dumb and def, cause really theres no coming back from that peace.

This is so incredibly sad on from every angle. As sick as this makes me, I really do feel sorry for this lady- even though she really made a terrible mistake. No one really knows how they would truly react in this type of situation until we’re in it; God know I hope I would do the right thing- and hopefully none of us EVER have to find out. But like many other people have said, when people panic they do things they wouldn’t normally do. That being said, she has to suffer the consequences of her actions, and the people who passed along- with their families who are suffering, deserve justice.

According to the “panic” theory, the police who beat Rodney King should be understood. After all, he did keep trying to get up. Cops panic all the time. How many murders are committed when someone panics. Prison is full of people who panic. The “Panic argument is ludicrous. It’s an EXCUSE a COP OUT! It’s a way to try a reason away serious flaws. Events like these are defining moments! There is no excuse for her behavior. She is at the very least a coward and irresponsible. Simple compassion dictates that you check on a person’s health.

Also, why didn’t she turn herself in after her “panic attack” was over? Where was her guilt? Where was her compassion? I’m sure she watched the news? I’m sure she looked at her car? Why did they have to come for her? EVen if we are to accept the “Panic Theory,” what stopped her from turning her self in? We get examples of this behavior all the time. I’ve seen accident where people take off…I’ve seen them get out there car and try and help..I’ve seen people hit park cars and leave a not…and other who “panic” an take off. The question is who are you?

I am devestated by the deaths of the beautiful children and loving parents that were taken so suddendly. The young woman who committed this crime got scared and kept going, that does not excuse anything though because I would have stopped. I know her Mom and Grandmother had to know what happend and why did the car appear as if it had not been in an accident at all? Somebody fixed that car, had to. its hard to turn someone in you watched grow up, because you still see them as children, the girl ran to her grandmother, she was affraid, and no she did not want to go to jail, and her grandmother did not want her to go either, I feel for the people and children that died in this accident, and we all do say accident, which means, it was not done on purpose. The girl will have to do some time according to the law, but only God can make a judgement on weather people and their families should forgive her, and that too is hard to do, when you watch a person grow up, only for someone to take their life. But this is life, death is a part of it, if we could pervent bad things from happening, then maybe there would be somthing badder that we have to deal with.

She a 22yr old child herself. She was scared and that’s normally what kids do hide and run when something went wrong. It takes a lot of guts for someone to turn themselves in. She got scared like a lot of people that don’t mean to hurt anyone do. Race doesn’t play a factor in this either. I have talked to over a dozen of 22 yr olds in the pass few days and they have the same mentallity as she does. It’s sad that the younger generation is going through a lack of discipline,respect, and just have no standards no matter what ethnic they are and that starts from home so you tell me. LIVES ARE BEING DESTROYED. PRIEST RAPING CHILDREN. CONFLICTS OF RELIGION ETC…. I CAN GO ON AND ON. I PAY ATTENTION BECAUSE TO ME. WE AS MANKIND ARE OUT OF SYNC WITH MORALS AND VALUES.

she need to have her punk ass in there i just lost my father in a hit and run accident on sunday july 18,2009 the guy hit him and kept going this world is coming to an end.but the guy is in jail now but i think right is right and she need to stay there the rest of her life the least she could have did was stop them ppl did ask her to hit them and keep going. and 3 kids they didnt even get to enjoy life so why should she!!!!!!

More than likely at 22 she probaly panicked and ran home to her mother.Let us not judge her.For who is to say that you would not have done the same thing.People are always attacking someone even before they get the whole story.

No excuse for stupidity. You have a chance to make a choice. You are going out to drink, catch a flipping cab home!!! Stop killing people while DUI. She did not make it any better running home. Now their will be no bargaining chips for her. If you know you will run home to mam better not drive, and call mama to pick your stupid behind up. I have no sympathy for any one who commits DUI. Its cheaper to take a cab or check into a hotel till morning or the law will chack you into a Jail. They should lock her up and throw away the keys. Ahe deserves no second chance in life. Ok as sad as this is, this woman is gonna have a hell of a sentence. Yes she chose to leave the scene of the crime and she hurt those 5 ppl but maybe she was afraid & kept going. The same ish happened here in tampa & the woman hit 4 kids, 2 died, drove home, had her parents wash the evidence off the car, & she is out scott-free. I believe the woman here in tampa needs to be retried. And that both of these women get punishment that’s fair and just!
