Sorry, that is NOT ‘my bible’…It isnt ANY black persons bible truthfully, but I see religion has done its job again..

It could be a sign to look at what all these religions are about.

People use religion as an excuse for revenge, slavery, cheating, lying murder, mayhem, lawbreaking, stealing, human downgrading, and the list goes on.

Thee religious fanatics make the ten commandments look like the ten suggestions.

And face the facts. Most people don’t know anything about religion, or don’t really care. Just a mask they use for their whatever day to day life. And you ask what these religions/religious beliefs are really about, they won’t know.

It’s nothing but a vicious comfort zone. A paranoid cycle that needs to be busted and broken. And all of these religions are generally the same. They want to control everything without a thought of tomorrow. And it causes more trouble and problems in the world than it solves.

They keep talking about so-called miracles, but then they want you to give all your money to them. Religions don’t run on air. A lot of people would rather give their last few dollars to some sc**ball religious yahoo thinking they’re going to get a miracle than take care of their general expenses (ala groceries). You can’t eat religious scriptures.

Overall, these mega-religions are out of excuses of getting the mass support, tax deductions, blind support, money gauging, political hounding they do.

A judge set up a statue of the ten commandments in a court building. Those funds wasted on that could have fed the needy of the state, educating people into employment skills, ending the social strife that weighs people down, building and repairing homes for the homeless. Instead, it was wasted on some neo-conservative cutthroat for his own moment’s glory. Even a lot of blacks defend his actions because it was in the name of whatever god they want to worship.

Thee way things are right now, we can’t continue to wast time gawking about religion. Too many people are living in a paranoid state of mind for their imaginary beliefs. And many use it as a tool just to say I don’t give a crap about anything.

Time to get it all together, in the name of life.

Whether you believe the bible is divine or not, this book has inspired people to do more good throughout the earth more than any other book I know. I know some will say that it has inspire evil also, but the comparison is not equal.
1.feed the hungry
2.orphanages
3.help the worst drug addicts and alcoholic become productive citizens
4.The people who are keeping the black community from collapsing are church people or religious (their marriages last longer and they believe in marriage not shacking.)
5. The work of the civil rights and human right movement was performed by black the Christian and Muslim communities.
6. the religious communities are not perfect but the have a better track record than the no believing or atheist equivalent .

After reading some of the posts, I decided to convey my thoughts on this issue.

Religion is not an excuse to seek revenge, slavery, lying, murder, etc, rather, it is a group of beliefs, symbols, and thoughts that indicate a person’s belief in a deity, higher power, or ultimate truth. As for the Ten Commandments, according to the Bible, they were given to Moses so the people of Israel as a guide to living a life that is pleasing to God. As for its significance today, the Ten Commandments serve as a guide to loving the Lord, and loving your neigbor. The Commandments help man to restore his relationship with God, while establishing a relationship with his fellow man.

As for “most people not knowing anything about religion,” what do you base that on? Do you know most people? Are you referring to the people that you have met and conversed with regarding this issue?

Furthermore, how is any religion a vicious comfort zone? Truth be told, many of the religions out there require you to come out of your comfort zone; sacrifice is crucial in developing a relationship with God or another supernatural power. What religion that you know of controls everything without a thought of tomorrow? No religion should ever use control as a means of gaining membership. People have the power of choice as to whether they want believe. People who choose to believe in a religion should understand why they believe in it, and study their religion for themselves to gain a deeper sense of understanding.

Not all churches/religions are out there running scams trying to get people’s money either. That’s what tithing is for. Depending on the religion/church, when a person tithes, 10% belongs to God (in the Bible), and the offering is whatever you want to give. Many churches are able to function off of the tithes and offering. Now there are times when a love offering is collected to help someone who needs food, shelter, clothing, or their utilities paid.

Who is “gawking about religion?” Furthermore, how is embracing or speaking about religion a waste of time? Whose time is being wasted when people have the power of choice? Who lives in a paranoid state of mind for their imaginary beliefs?

Who is blind, happy, and on their knees in front of a White man?? Nobody knows what color God or Jesus is. That may be how He is depicted in some pictures, but no one knows His skin color. How are people blind because they choose to believe in and pray to God? If that’s their conviction or their belief, why pass judgement? No disrespect, just asking.

And please remember, there are extremists and fanaticists who do evil things in the name of “God, Allah, Jesus, etc.” Please understand that God is a God of love, and does not go telling people to kill one another, as the preacher did with his wife. That’s just a person who did not take responsibility for his actions, and is using God/religion as a scapegoat.

In conclusion, I respect a person’s right to believe or not believe. However, don’t disrespect a person’s beliefs in order to convey thoughts about your own. If you can’t get your thoughts across without character assasination, denigrating, or belittling someone or their beliefs, then the credibility of what you have to say is already diminished.

Although I was brought up as a Christian, I truly question the existence of God!! Babyface, you seem to have a lot to say on the issue and that’s not a bad thing since it stimulates discussion, but avoid making these ridiculous comparisons and analogies.

Throughout history, many thoughtful men have always questioned the existence of god, and they have good reason to. Let us not get too emotional about this and think about this carefully. If there is truly a god, why do we have to be told that he exist rather than having that inherent (or natural feeling) that he does exist. Most Christians and others believe in a god because they were brought up that way. On the other hand, people who were brought up without religion tend not to believe in a god. Now, we know that some of those people change their opionion as they grow older for whatever reason. Let me just give a simple example to support why I feel this way: 1) We all have the desire for food and no one tells us when we are hungry or need to eat. This urge is natural and we all determine this ourselves in order to survive. The same with the intake of air and other body functions. I don’t want to get into who gave us life and all that because there are too many opinions on our origin. In fact, there isn’t any general consensus on this idea.
My point is that these functions are natural and very important to our survival and no one has to tell us when to do them, so why does any man or group needs to tell another that god exist and he should believe in order to enjoy the after life, if there is such a thing? In fact, no one really knows if there is an after life. My point is that if there is no general agreement on something that is so important to us (the after life), who is to say what really happens after death? Jesus Christ is the only person who claimed to have died and return to life. Many sages claimed to know what happens to man after death, but does that make their claim true?

On another note, the problem with these discussions is that people engage in name calling and ridiclue when others don’t agree with what they are saying, which is petty !!! Ridicule doesn’t provide anything meaningful to the discussion, it indermines it. Prove why you believe to convince others and don’t make outlandish remarks to win the argument. It will not work !!!!

It is important to note that we (black people) had our own indigenous religions from inception and Christianity and Islam were brought to us over time.

WHY IS IT WRONG TO HAVE YOUR OWN THOUGHTS? I FIND THAT PEOPLE BECOME DEFENSIVE AND DEVICIVE WHEN YOU DON’T BELIVE WHAT THEY BELIVE,

If they would just pick up a damn physics or earth science book other than some 2000 yer old scripture, and approach the situation with logic (like you have), there would be no room FOR ridicule.
