Senior Black Couple Sets Record with 84-year Marriage

A Craven County couple are in the Guinness World Records book. The two did nothing outlandish such as sky-diving upside down, dancing for days, taking the longest lawn mower ride or having the most tattoos. No, Herbert and Zelmyra Fisher of the Brownsville community have been married for more than 84 years. That is a feat in itself. They have the world record of the longest marriage for a living couple.
They can thank their granddaughter Iris Godette for getting the recognition. She submitted the information to the Guinness Book of Records. The information was apparently checked by Guinness and a certificate was given to the couple.
Herbert was born June 10, 1905. His hearing is going but his mind is sharp. Zelmyra was born Dec. 10, 1907. She uses a walker to get around the house and yard. The two of them can still give their reasons for marrying on May 13, 1924.
“He was not mean; he was not a fighter,” Zelmrya said. “He was quiet and kind. He was not much to look at but he was sweet.”

This kind of relationship and commitment is born from simply having standard! People who have Godly standards, easily understand the workability of such a union. It is available to each of us,and for my part the chore these days is connecting with someone with the same intense level of commitment and Godly standard. Those who are really “old school”, as the saying is tossed around today, have sat at the feet of such ones like the Fishers, with I might add, a closed mouth!

My grandmother said she has seen her grandfather put a plow around his own neck and pull it through a field like he was a horse. Her dad and brothers had to walk for hours to get to town and sell their animals and produce. The women made their own bread, clothes, soap, did laundry outside in a tub, kill and cook their dinner, etc. She said by the time they lay down at night, Maw-Maw and Paw-Paw were too tired to look over at each other and FIND FAULT.

okay guys we are all asking ourselves why can’t we be the same today? material things, and comparing ourselves to someone else. arguments , always complaining about something is wrong in the home. wrong advice from friends, one can ask himself why black men do better with white women and white men do better with black women. why most interracial marriages stay. women especially would want to walk away from marriage because, if she earns more. emotionally she thinks the man is not taking care of her. even if the man earns more, she wants to take command the home.no man would marry some one he does’nt love. in the initial days men want their wives to decide how the home should be .let’s do this let’s do that .the man does it , she then comes with words like . This is how i like my house, i bought this, take care you don’t break my stuff , next door has a BMW we still use a honda , my husband don’t listen.then friends come in oh girl you need your happiness. how can you live with a man who don’t love you. my ex was the same . look for your happiness , you already getting depressed . look for someone else. my ex was a Good father, i earn more than my new husband but he listens,we curdle in the couch eat some pop corn and watch movies together. oh’ you dropped my popcorn on my carpet. i can’t be taking care of my kids and take care of a big small boy like you. you better grow,
The men should also keep away from married women. most men do not respect other mens marriage by not thinking a home would be broken. the ball that goes round comes back.

That’s just beautiful. They don’t do it like this anymore. That’s that old school love. Like my grandma tells me back in the day they didn’t just break up and have kids by everybody, you stayed together for better or worse.

Well I hate to hurt people feelings but Love like that still exist and it’s still happening for alot of couples. We have to make a difference for the younger generation to see black Love like that If not then all is lost. We have to take a stand and it starts with the fathers, the young black innocents is dieing because boys and girls grow up without fathers. We don’t have anymore task masters to kill off our men and put our women in the fields and sleep with our daughters and beat our male child. We aren’t slaves anymore but yet our fathers aren’t around. They caught up on drugs, fast life, fast car, fast women(who grew up without a father), fast talk and fast money. Black Love like 84 year marriage do exist we just need more black men to help us live it.

Love like this don’t exist anymore. My grandparents were married for 70 years until they passed. My parents are going on 43 years. These are old school black folks. Today, you f*ck with no condom. Have kids out of wedlock, and never get married to who you had babies by…that’s the law of the land now, and there probably is no turning back in our lifetime.

They need to interview them fast and get as much information as possible because couples today can’t stay married two years! LOL Seriously though we could learn a lot from them. My grandfather passed in December 2008 and my grandparents had been married over 50 years. I can say I learned a lot from them. This is really a nice story.:-)

This is something we should be proud and thankful for. So what if he had 3 wives and 30 children….The fact remains that his last wife he was married to for over 80 years. And the Guinness book of Records Do Not add any thing that doesn’t have authentic doc**ents…We have too much negativity already with other people trying to discredit us let’s try for once to praise and be thankful for something that is positive…..

I know of this couple, they are living in Africa, in fact he has been married 3 times or still have 3 wives, and 30 children, he died 2 months ago.
