Black Muslim Leader Accused of Ordering Murder of Editor

The former leader of an Oakland community group and an associate were indicted on three first-degree murder counts Wednesday involving the killing of a journalist investigating the group and two other deaths.

The former leader of the now-defunct Your Black Muslim Bakery group, Yusuf Bey IV, 23, was accused of ordering the shooting death of Oakland Post Editor Chauncey Bailey as he walked to work.

Alameda County Deputy District Attorney Chris Lamiero said Antoine Mackey, 23, was also accused in connection with the three murders.

The bakery group was founded to provide support and as a haven for Oakland’s poor but ran into financial and other problems. Bailey had been investigating the group’s finances.

The indictment came after a former bakery handyman, Devaughndre Broussard, testified. Broussard, 21, faced a murder charge in Bailey’s killing and his attorney, LeRue Grim, said his client agreed to plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter in Bailey’s death and an earlier killing in return for a sentence of no more than 25 years in prison.

Broussard told prosecutors that he and another bakery follower carried out the three slayings because Bey, the son of the bakery’s late founder, promised to reward them financially if they did, Grim said.

Lamiero declined comment on any plea agreements.

Bey was arrested a day after Bailey’s death in an unrelated kidnapping and torture case and remained jailed in that case. His lawyer, Anne Beles, said she had not been formally notified of the indictments Wednesday.

Beles said: “All charges will be fought vigorously.”

Bey and Mackey were expected in court May 6. Broussard’s next court date was scheduled for May 7.

    DAMN…..Its bad enough it happened, but these young bulls now-a-days run their mouths toooo much!!!!! They are always bragging on some sh-t that is supposed to be keep secret.This just goes to show that the game has been over for some time and these “wankstas” are just trying to bge something they are not even close to being!This would have never happened back in the day!!!!Besides,these are not REAL muslims…….muslim people are respectful and would never act in this manner.This is not about religion,but about some dumb asses being stupid.PEACE TO ALL NO MATTER WHAT RACE,RELIGON OR CREED!!!

    WOW!!! I wonder how does Farrakhan feels about this,,but you know something yes they might have KILL this man but they forgot this you can’t NEVER kill the SPIRIT of anyone”s SOUL because it will always be there on JUDGEMENT DAY and people need to understand this,, SATAN is alive in spirit and he’s hard at work making people do the things they do and plus SATAN GOT US HATING,,,but I don’t understand why black men have to go and kill someone and think that since they are gone they body is gone but what about the spirit,, man can’t and will not kill that soul or spirit that is in mankind but people think cause you kill someone that MANKIND won’t know who did the killing but there’s always a final witness and that”s the one in spirit and I wonder do people know who that is,,,,,,,,,I guess not!!
