Brooklyn Toddler Found Dead In Snow

A 3-year-old Brooklyn girl died just before Christmas when she ventured up to the roof of her building Wednesday and tumbled four stories to her death.

Kyrah Martin’s broken body was found facedown in the snow at 1:15 a.m. as the rooftop alarm in the Crown Heights building blared.

“There’s one set of footprints in the snow on the roof,” Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said. “The baby tragically fell off the roof.”

Kyrah’s mom, 35-year-old Nefertiti Martin, had gone to sleep with her four kids in the same bed, said the dead girl’s grandmother, Nadine Martin.

Nefertiti Martin was awakened early yesterday by cops who were searching apartments, trying to find where the dead girl lived.

The mother assured the officers her four children were snug in bed, even lifting up the covers, the grandmother said.

“One, two, three …,” Nefertiti Martin counted out loud – stopping when she realized the little girl she had nicknamed “Mikey,” after the ever-hungry kid in the Life cereal commercial, was gone.

“Oh my God! Where’s my daughter?” the shocked mother wailed, Nadine Martin said, recalling what her daughter told her. “Kyrah! Kyrah! Kyrah!”

Police concluded Kyrah’s death was accidental, but the Department of Homeless Services is investigating.

    I’m sorry baby girl died the way she did, but the story doesn’t make sense to me. I’m not a parent; however, i have heard toddlers opening doors and wandering outside. But this particular child had to climbed how many flights of stairs to the roof, and how she managed to open the door to rooftop? Something not right with this story. Was the apartment door locked? and I believe a 3yr old is unable to reach locks on an apartment door, did the grandmother woke up and realized the apartment door open while the police looking for the parents of the child?

    I’m sorry this story doesn’t make sense to me!!!!!

    OMG THIS IS SO SAD, 3 YR OLDS CAN UP AND UNLOCK DOORS, I HAVE A LIL COUSIN THAT IS 2YRS OLD AND CAN UNLOCK ANY DOOR. I HAVE BOUGHT THE CHILD SAFETY LOCKS FOR MY FRONT DOOR SO EVEN IF HE GETS IT UNLOCKED HE CANT TWIST THE HANDLE TO GET IT OPEN. I THINK ALL PARENTS SHOULD HAVE THESE ON THEIR DOORS. I MEAN 3 DOLLARS TO SAVE A CHILDS LIFE IS WORTH IT TO ME.

    RIP to the little girl; it’s sad that somethin’ so tragic has to happen to someone so young and innocent. With that said, some people just don’t need to be havin’ kids I swear! She had 4 kids (5 if you count the one born premature) and she was livin’ (obviously) on welfare wit’ just her, her mom and her kids, and she & her kids share the same bed. WTF; WRAP IT UP OR SOMETHIN’!!!! RIP

    this is a sad story none the less and should have nothing to do with ones living arrangements of form of income. nmryda , you sound real ignorant for saying that. There have been things like that happen in the suburban parts , where I live, so one’s social status should not play a factor. There are people with money and living in nice and decent areas that shouldn’t procreate, but often do and have more than one kid.
