This is nothing new, racial discrimination is a matter of course for that place. I was born and raised in Chicago and it is well known to black men in the city. Chicago remains a racially segregated city even in the 21st century. My buddies and I were treated the same way at this same bar in the 1980′s. We were denied entry then because our jeans were too faded? Our philosophy was if they don’t respect our black dollars then we will spend our money elsewhere. It is sad to see that 20 years later nothing has changed. It is good that this group of students was able to expose them nationally. Maybe some positive change can come from this nonsense.

The question at hand is will we not only support but continue to support black owned establisments and respect them as well. This means purchasing items, whatever they are, and not acting like complete thugs. True, we have to deal with the small percentage that don’t know how to act, but you, will you support an all black establishment because I love to support my own people shuft. Think about it.

a couple months ago i went into a bar on milwaukee, it was a mixed placed and it was nice, you felt comfortable, then a group of about 12 black guys came in wearing the hip hop gear with pans sagging and these were older guys, it changed the whole atmosphere of the bar, they let them in no problem but then many people left, why do black guys come to bars in clubs 10 to 15 deep?

To the people commenting about a dress code and dressing properly to go out. Mother’s is not a club, it’s a sports bar and not an upscale one. So to dress in a suit and tie would be more out of place than jeans. Again, it is not about saggy pants, it is about racism. I received the same treatment in the 80′s and we were told our jeans were too faded in color. We were denied entry while we watched white patrons admitted with dirty ripped jeans and t-shirts. Besides, the one kid changed pants with a white student who was admitted no problem, so it’s not the jeans.
