I live in chicago and i am so sick of this street violence. I’ve lost about 3 friends already to this s**t. When are we going to come above the drama and the violence and come together. We have no right to take human lives let alone judge another being. Focus on yourself and let God sort it out… if you don’t believe in God… let Karma sort it out okay?! God Help Us All!

Well I don’t live in chicago but violence is everywhere. People will never rise above it. People are people and everyone is different. Some don’t care about Karma nor God for that matter. So the most people can do is pray. All this coming together talk that everyone speaks about needs to cease, it will never happen. Prayer is the only thing that I see happening. If God puts it in your heart to speak to someone else about him, then do that and maybe it will then move them in a direction to think differently. Other than that, the violence in this world is here to stay. That’s life.

Sorry to hear about all of the senseless violence. I’m even sadder to hear that it happened in my hometown of Chicago. I hope and pray that my sister who is a Chicago Police Officer can do her part to end some of this violence.

The message against violence has been put out there time and time again yet it will continue to be ignored. I can understand that people get disrespected by others and feel adamant about it. Just today on June 1st, a Chicago Cop, responding to a call of shots fired, died in the line of duty from a gunshot wound to the head from the night before. There’s a lot going on here that media people outside of Chicago does not know about.

I recently moved back to the suburbs of Chicago.. I was born and raised in Chicago. I have been back for a few months and I have yet to go and visist my family that stay in certain areas… I just don’t rust it anymore. It has gotten outrageous! And we really need to find a solution because these are babies dying pointlessly. I know the hood and I can comprehend the mentality, but what is going on now.. is just downright satanic.. in a sense. I know that times are uncertain right now, and things are harder, but this isn’t the way. Chicago has so many qualities to offer, but no one will ever see them if we continue this with this non-sense… where is Mayor Daley? Where is he I mean he needs to make some things happen now!!! I am praying for this City and the inhabitants… Pray for peace and relief. Also keep the officers that protect and serve sincerely in our prayers… their job has become almost as dangerous as our soldiers over seas.

Coming together worked in Los Angelos in the 90′s. They were having insane violence at the time. And they got the crips and bloods together, and Latino gangs. It lasted for a pretty long time. I used to drive with my gun in my lap. You had to be ready.

Man, this type of thing has been going on in the Chi for decades now but now everybody wants to talk about it! Since they don’t have LA to focus on plus it’s not exciting to see vatos killing brothers I guess. The gangs in Chicago are so large, the police alone don’t stand a chance and I’m pretty sure they know the same thing even if they refuse to admit it. LA was simple compared to Chicago.

Last night I was laying in bed listening to the sirens asking what could it be now and I don’t even live in the city. Chicago, a far as I can remember, has always had a huge problem with violence and as community no we do not stand for it. We march, have vigils, and pray but there is a systematic oppression that has to be addressed and it really does start at home. In a city full of good people evil is taking over. I don’t know the answer but we can all start by raising our children to be respectful of life. All those men no wonder there are so many single women.

#1 the corruption within the government, #2 the gang violence, and #3 gentrification. Those are the 3 main problems i see.
I’m from Waukegan, IL and I’ve been gone for almost 6 years. Now I’m young but I’m far from novice. I see the lack of government effort in trying to handle the very out of control gang/drug violence. The Chief of Police from the CPD acted like he couldn’t get out an answer to simple questions that were asked during an interview with CNN about the violence and corruption in Chicago… They can’t even get the highways rebuilt..I come back home every year and if things don’t look the same they look worse. The gentrification of the city is only making the violence spread. By tearing down the projects they radiated inner city poverty, gangs, drugs, etc to the suburbs, Not saying that the suburbs are perfect nor that they should be perfect because no matter where you live you shouldn’t live in fear. What i’m saying is this is not only an inner city issue. It has spread throughout the whole chicagoland area. When i watch WGN from my residence in Georgia and all i see and hear is police corruption this and murder that i’m thinkin wtf is really goin on…how can a city really diminish to this. Yes the media does blow up the wrong stories and diminishes the right ones but in the end Chicago and the surrounding areas are out of control and its been that way for years…the right people need to get into power and start making moves otherwise nothing is going to change.

Only a man can teach his son how to be a man. If you are lacking the skills of how to be a man, then read your bible. The bible teaches integrity, respect, and doing good to and for others. All of this hatred of ones fellow man is coming from within. Don’t blame anyone else for the downfall of the black man. You can’t blame the “whiteman” for you not educating your children. You can’t blame the “whiteman” for not giving you a job. You can’t blame the “whiteman” for not helping you open up a successful business. Look within yourselves black men. Come together collectively and stop killing one another. Take the knowledge that you have as a gifted creation of God, and work on the homefront first. Then venture out into your community and help put an end to the black self hatred. Open your own businesses and employ your own people.

You know it’s sad. I can’t go anywhere without my mom being on my back about where it is I’m going just because all of this that’s going on here in Chicago. It’s so DAMN FRUSTRATING!!!! It’s summer time, everybodies out and about, you have all these festivals and concerts going on, but you can’t even enjoy it due to the fact you have to watch your back so you won’t get shot. i understand the level of poverty and under-educated black Americans…however, no one makes the choice for you when you pick up a gun and intend to shot someone. Each individual is accountable for there own actions. It don’t take a whole lot of education to know its wrong to take someones life.

It’s a culmination of many complex problems coming to a head. You can’t have a poor school system, little to no parental oversight, and infamous gang wars going on and be surprised at the violence. It’s a collective problem that will only be solved when people in the communities work together with the police and their children.

i live pretty close to the west side of chicago (in a suburb supposedly), and a lot of stuff that is said on the comments for this articcle i feel is very ignorant..the whole whites stay in the burbs blacks in the city, not like that truley, its killings in the burbs 2 the media just doesnt focus on it as much as they should my oldest sister was shot in killed in the burbs and it wasnt much media surrounding it, they didnt prosecute the person that killed her till 3 yrs past her death, Chicago is selective 2 what they put out, but truth be told death definetly is not new 2 the streets of chicago..im not surprised they dont have anyone in custody either, its somethin really wrong with the generation that is comng up these days..sucks much, the world needs prayer..

I got a friend who I visit on the south side 87th st stoney island. Most violence is being involved in the wrong thing. Some good advice is avoid eye contact and mind your own business and be aware of your surroundings, this will decrease your chances of being a victim by a lot. Detroit is so bad they got robot cops.
