Whats happening in Detroit is no different than anywhere else where there are high concentrations of minorities. Limited opportunities=crime, crime= a decline in population resulting in lose of revenue. Bill need to sit down some where and eat some pudding pops our issues transcend bad parenting. Detroit has been struggling since the 70′s, it tried to make a comeback in the 90′s but the decline of the auto industry unsettle a lot of gained ground. The only thing saved the south was mass migration from the north and where the people go is where the businesses go. And to the a55 that mention Eminem, dog, he is just a rapper (not even from Detroit) that got paid by sporting our brand name. It’s good people in Detroit, good people going through hard times.

Detroit, Birmingham, and other post-industrial cities have got to take the necessary steps to revolutionize themselves into 21st century cities. That undoubtedly means that they need to be smaller, tightly run cities that can increase their stakes in medical or scientific research, technology, etc.

I’m sure nobody wants the city to go bankrupt, but if it can clear much of its debt obligations that way then it’d help start the financial ‘reset’ Detroit obviously needs.

Molten metal generated more tax revenue vs automobile assembly for the City and County of Wayne Mich…Contrary to popular belief Ohio builds more automotive products than any Michigan…Also petro-chemistry was big income getter(check the county assessor office archives for the last 44 yrs). Detroit was also know for engineering and metal fabrication.There were plenty of opportunities, but that requires education (skill trade, a university ed, and etc) The majority of (more than have)local population was not down for that..discipline!..My eyes, lie not ….7 autopsy a day, five day a week (I’m ASCP,ARP, HTL forensic) Death tells a story of life choices…very poor choice… 95% of the cases. detroit has been in the sh*tter well b4 this economic decline nationwide…its main line or work (automobiles) has been gettin exported to other parts of the country and other car makers are doing better than the US makers that were in detroit…so the city is basically going to lay waste to itself…what can you really do w/ a town that has nothing but debt and no real way to redeem itself? Eventually it will just fall apart on itself and become a no mans land.

Man! I cry for my hometown of Detroit!! It used to be a decent place to live just a few short years ago! I left in 96, when my next door neighbor got shot & killed when some piece of sh*t thugs tried to steal her car out of her driveway! The Big Three was Detroit’s lifeblood! My father spent most of his life slaving for Ford Motor co., and this is how they repay the city/state that supported them!? It’s sad, because all that’s left of a once great city, is desperation & poverty! The government needs to force these corporations to reopen these factories, or do not allow them to sell their products on US soil!! And they need to make sure that they employ MINORITIES!! Because we all now why this is happening…white people HATE to see minorities doing as good, or better than they are!

First of all im’ from the D’ born a raised i moved away in 20006 because i saw all of this coming it kept geting bader and bader worst and worst every year.Who wants to live and die in a war zone Detroit is still my home in my mine but not for my body i wish everybody there the best.But i still got the feeling that it wont’ get greater later because its’ worst first.

okay start another industry. simple as that. adjust you dumb asses. detroit is suffering because the motor industry has betrayed them. do something about it. you have hundreds of unemployed people. one word small business grants. apply for federal assistance and get small business grants within the decade detroit will be better. detroit failed because of its inability to adjust.
