Here is a really good Op-Ed in the New York Times about gun control.

This is the American way. Since Sept. 11, 2001, when the country’s attention understandably turned to terrorism, nearly 120,000 Americans have been killed in nonterror homicides, most of them committed with guns. Think about it — 120,000 dead. That’s nearly 25 times the number of Americans killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

For the most part, we pay no attention to this relentless carnage. The idea of doing something meaningful about the insane number of guns in circulation is a nonstarter. So what if eight kids are shot to death every day in America. So what if someone is killed by a gun every 17 minutes.

The goal of the National Rifle Association and a host of so-called conservative lawmakers is to get ever more guns into the hands of ever more people. Texas is one of a number of states considering bills to allow concealed guns on college campuses.

So more laws will make criminals finally get the message? As opposed to the 30,000+ CURRENT laws that are on the books already?

control the guns in criminal hands. if they try to ban guns they’ll just go back to knife’s and brass knuckles like thy used to. i dont know, some where along the way did people lose their damn spine!!! Illinois has the most senseless gun laws in the U.S in my opinion, but that didn’t stop the mouthafoucka who killed that singer lady, i forgot her name, family. education i think is the way. if you too weak to protect yourself and loved ones by all means, you a weak sucka!!!! go get a bodyguard.

Wow. Lets see we lose more people to diabetes…so lets ban sugar. yea, thats it. Really people, we do have reasonable gunlaws on the books, and if they are properly enforced, then maybe we can curb some of this senseless violence. If a man is intent on doin harm, then no law on the books will help. You are indeed living in fantasy if you think a sociopath will turn in his weapon because of any existing or future law. Responsible gun ownership is NOT a crime.I support the NRA because of far left leaning radicals who believe that our government will protect them at all costs. HA! The role of any government is to protect society at large, and itself not you or I. We are responsible for our selves. As a community we must teach our young that resulting to violence, except in defence of self or someone else is wrong…
