Holmes Norton: Gun Amendment Is A Threat To National Security

A proposed gun amendment to the D.C. House Voting Rights Act could triple gun purchases, increase gun violence in the region, hamstring District and U.S. Capitol police and could hinder a major terrorist attack, according to U.S. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton.
At a hearing last week convened by Norton, federal and District officials in law enforcement and emergency management said the gun amendment would have an adverse impact on homeland security.
“Before us today is whether appointed and elected federal officials, employees, visitors and the federal presence would be more or less secure under the Ensign gun amendment, which would allow military style weapons, including .50 caliber armor-piercing guns to be legally possessed, without limit on the number, in the nation’s capital,” Norton said last week during a hearing before the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management.
Norton said the nation’s capital ranks in the top four areas at risk for terrorist threats along with New York, Chicago and San Francisco.

Exactly what Xanvel said. eleanor holmes norton…looking more and more like a f**kin’ man everyday.
These Elitist Politicians are really starting to tick me off. I guess it is not right for the common man to be armed, to defend himself and if need be his liberty from the throes of a tyrannical government. We do not have the luxury of having private security, armed guards or the Secret service at our beck and call… then she has the gall to link this to a terrorist threat? Give me a break… For the uninformed, almost any caliber rifle bulllet can penetrate a ballistic vest that does not have an steel or ceramic insert… thats right, any common rifle! You will never see a .50 cal round used in a crime because those weapons are very expensive, and the ammunition used in them is easily traceable, expensive, and not easily found. I bet Delegate Norton has never seen a fifty caliber rifle, let alone fire any gun. Remember this people, it matters not if you personally own firearms or not, if these people succeed in destroying our Second Amendment Rights, whats to stop them from revoking ANY other? The way to end gun violence is to take back our streets, care about our communities, and to teach our young men that violence is not the answer. We are the solution to gun violence, not our government.
