I’m from New Orleans and for all these people talkin bout where the money gonna come from, maybe if the government was on their job they wouldn’t have to pay up now would they? i wouldn’t have lost my home and everything in it would I? And i wouldn’t have lost friends and family and that’s something that money can never get back.

they had up to 2+billion dollars the first time when the hurricane hit and everyone came to new orleans aid and gave money but none of the residents in new oreleans saw the money and this was doing bush time in office and fema didn’t help out evrybody and people are still living in trailers and they have a lot of homeless people under the bridge in new orleans. if you go down to new orleans it still somewat look like katrina just hit a week ago and its a damn shame no matter what happens they gone still steal all that money and nothing will be done to help the people or the state.

I am sorry to offend people but I believe there are some people from New Orleans who have came to Houston and have done nothing but sit on their ass and wait for the government/fema or whatever to help them. The money is in the N.O.! Its called natural resources, that’s what we get checks for in my hometown Anchorage Alaska stand up! Yep yep, I’ve always been under the understanding that if N.O. owned their own land instead of consistently borrowing from the government from way back in the day, they could have leveraged their resources and their dividends would be quadruple the amount of Alaska’s! Gosh the city is going to burn through any money that they do get. I can’t stand it there any ways. I’ve been there twice, both times were to board Norwegian cruise ships in port there. And thats the only time I will probably go back, although I’ve heard parts of the French quarters are pretty nice.

yes some of those people are lazy good for nothings that sit around and wait for the government to help them but then again if you lost everything you own im not so sure that you wont be depressed and at a lost of where to started rebuilding your life remember most of those people lost not only families jobs and homes all at once @ DanieAlicia787……TruthserumX: as far as your comment you might be right but then again most of the areas damaged are under privileged people poor and uneducated they’ve already settled into the idea that they cant do much better..Masculine you can print millions but it wont be worth much if you dont have the strength in the dollar… My belief is that they DO deserve the money but it should go towards HOUSING and REDEVELOPMENT not towards the people themselves. They should organize the people into work groups ie. if you lost a house (which should be doc**ented in the city hall) they will HELP you rebuild your house with one of those same work groups so they learn a varity of trades etc according to your abilities and pay you for it so you get a home and a trade develop a community atmosphere and accountability (of course the plan would have to be more detailed but you get my point) it’ll help the people regain self confidence and develop a job market and help (temporarily) develop jobs

So sad..Well I completely understand katrina victim’s lost everything from friends to relatives to personal belongings and memories, however, its called LIFE..and it goes on. Rather than crying about it and waiting on the gov’t to cut you a check, get out there and work even harder so you and your family can live a better life. Yea I know the whole relocation can be stressful and quite hard but, it only makes you a stronger person. Im all for new begginings and YES katrina victims do deserve assistance with housing and schooling and clothing, etc.. But wanting the gov’t to continously pay you thousands and thousands of dollars in addition to giving you free to discounted rent for 3years+ is asking for TOO MUCH. More than half of the victims from the disaster had NOTHING and if they did have anything it was not worth what the gov’t has gave. Stop trying to roach off the gov’t, get a clue and let this make you a better person. Shoot, the transition from New Orleans to Atlanta, Dallas, Kansas, Houston, Mississipi, was actually a good thing considering all the ghettos and projects that majority of the victims came from and the poverty they were living in. And best believe I got the facts because a part of me was in New Orleans, so I’ve witnessed it all!

@Marveeo those levee’s were built way before Bush got into office and it would be up to local authorities to get it fixed not Bush. He was only in the wrong when it took him so long to get down there.

One African American opinion, New Orleans is currently below sea level, that was taught in history class. The government knew the levees would not hold all hurricanes. One thing the government could have done was to not allow people to buy or rent housing in certain districts of New Orleans. Why? Scientist and other professional people predicted the levees would break. So the government could have helped themselves at one point before all this happened.

The government also could have assisted when they learned by professional people that the levees were in danger of breaking. Local, State and Federal GOVERNMENT could have worked together and assisted people in moving out of New Orleans. So the government too was lazy in not listening to professional people and their opinion.

So, YES, I believe the government was at fault for Katrina more than 50% All to often the government wait until the last minute to help or assist people especially African American. Many of these government people were either elected or hired to look out for the best interest of people. African American start blaming themselves for things.

Those goddamn levees was BLOWN UP. This aint the first time it happen.
