From the Washington Post:

Travel along a two-block stretch of Central Avenue in Prince George’s County, and you’ll find a staggering 11 fast-food restaurants.

For community activist Arthur Turner and state Sen. David C. Harrington (D-Prince George’s), the strip is evidence of the proliferation of burger joints and Chinese takeouts in the county, especially in poorer, inner Capital Beltway communities.

Pointing to studies that rank Prince George’s residents among the least healthy in Maryland, Turner and Harrington want to limit new fast-food restaurants in the county, a far stricter approach than what has been enacted in such places as New York City and Montgomery County, which banned the use of trans fats in those establishments.

From the looks of that picture up there and judging from that huge second chin… instead of protesting burger king, he need to be joggin around that muh-phucca!

And why would you limit the presence vs. forcing them to sell a better quality & healthier food?

Definitely limit the presence. It should be against the law to have that many fast food places in such a small area. Black people are dying in huge numbers of diabetes and other illnesses which are brought on by poor diets.

Stan_Vinyl, lmao..”joggin around that muhphucca” you cold for that one!

I think this is a great idea. Limit the availability, people need to go back to COOKING a good meal instead. This world is TOO INSTANT. When people have overweight kids and not nan grocery in the fridge then something is wrong..I see that too often with ‘friends’ of my own…Instead of throwing money at the kids for lunch everyday…buy fruit, yogurt etc..to send with them to school, cut out all that damn soda and whatnot..It doesnt start with fast food joints, it starts right at home…

Here we have a couple of authoritarian nannies deciding that the people who elected them are too dumb to decide for themselves what to eat.

One result of this bill will be to reduce employment opportunities, during a period of very high unemployment. The people who will be most negatively affected are young African-Americans and recent Latino immigrants.

So, we have two Democratic politicians working hard to hurt their own constituents.

this is a problem all over not just in urban areas. let’s not kid ourselves…the people would choose Fat Burger 9 outta 10 over any deli/shop that would replace’em.

CaliFemme23 is right,it starts in the home! the parent’s don’t like and don’t prepare the healthier dishes then the children continue the pattern. parents gotta learn to develope a taste for fresh veggies and fruits and healthier meals. stop drowning salads in ranch dressing and broccli in cheese and fatback in collards. also, in many urban areas the small grocery stores/markets don’t sell quality fruits and veggies; these would be rejected from a cahin or sub-burb store. travel outside the area to get these or to a farmers market.

i like the scene from Undercover Brother when Billy D. W. characrer was gonna open up chain of the “Generals Fried Chicken” in the urban areas. 5hit was funny!
