BALTIMORE, Oct. 28 (UPI) — A Maryland chapter of the NAACP is drawing criticism for selecting President Barack Obama’s former pastor to speak at its awards dinner, a recipient says.

Perry Ealim, a black businessman who is being honored by the Anne Arundel County NAACP, says many of his friends and associates refuse to attend the Nov. 20 dinner, the Baltimore Sun reported Wednesday.

Ealim, a Republican, says he has been told they are boycotting the dinner because Rev. Jeremiah Wright is going to be the speaker.
“I am happy for your honor, however, I cannot support an organization that would have a racist/bigot such as Mr. Wright as (its) speaker,” one of Ealim’s friends wrote to him.

Rev. Wright is one of the few reverends I respect. He started Aids out reach programs long before it became fashionable, his church has Afro-centered values, and the man speaks the truth. Like the people below me said, stop allowing fox and those racist republicans to dictate who our heroes should be. Everything he said about America was the truth, but if you take a twenty minute speach and chop it down into a 30 second montage youll never hear the truth. Its comical how folks loyaly go to these pimped out pastors, doing nothing for their community, but are fast to turn on Rev. Wright….If I ever become a Christian, which I doubt, Rev. Wrights one of the few that can be my Rev.

Wow. Its cool if these Republicans want to play politics, but to call the man racist? These negroes should stop letting FOX and the rest of the mainstream media, think for them. I wonder how long will it be before Natl HQ (RIP) sends word to have them cancel Rev Wrights appearance. If that happens, I hope the Anne Arundel County chapter stands their ground.

It’s laughable that Rev. Wright’s comments in the past have people not supporting organizations who continue to interact with him. Why? Because people speak with “fork tongue.” These same folks; namely, Republicans believe it’s okay for ALL OF US to listen to White Racists and anti-Black anything folks like Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Cheney, and various politicians, teachers, etc. who keep the “playing field uneven” because this country was built on racism and that’s just the way it is. You can vote for white racists, but we should condemn any non-White they, the dominant culture, don’t like. I’m still chuckling.

NAACP continues to lose credibility from their bad choices. I mean this is the organization that decide to give R Kelly a lifetime acheivement award in music, during the thick of his lewd acts with a minor controversy. Rev. Jeremiah Wright is a bigot; he’s a man who has probably experienced racism time and time again and allowed it to turn him into the very thing his was a victim. I believe the generation of African Americans that are coming up now are going to move away from organization such as the NAACP or else reform it so that it becomes relevant to today’s issues.
