More Than One-Third Of Black Americans Don’t Have Health Care

Of the more than 2,100 respondents to the official NewsOne/BlackPlanet.com poll, 63% said “Yes,” they have health insurance. The rest, more than one-third, indicated that they are uninsured.

Statistics from both the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s “Cover the Uninsured” project place the number of uninsured African-Americans overall close to 20%. In any event, both Black and Hispanic Americans are disproportionately uninsured in the United States when compared with white people: more than 30% of Hispanic people are currently without health insurance, while the same is true for just 12% of whites.

All told, there are more than 45 million Americans without health insurance. Their status has been much discussed in politics lately as President Barack Obama and Democrats in Congress have begun the push for health care reform. Among potential components of a health care reform bill are: a government-run “public option” to compete with private insurers; expanded availability of Medicaid and the State Children’s Health Insurance Plan (SCHIP); tax penalties for employers that don’t provide insurance; an individual mandate to purchase health insurance. Meanwhile, as Democrats have made the case for reform, the GOP has done its best to obstruct the progress of any potential health care reform bill.

Obama, who returned from vacation this week, is reportedly considering making a major speech on health care reform and in the coming weeks will look to reset the debate surrounding the issue.

    Thefact that blacks are not covered by health care is no big deal,the numbers are wrong but who cares? Blacks are in the throws of genocide.they are and will die in huge numbers.white racist republicans have finally come up with a sure fire way to get rid of us.together with homelessness,starvation,joblessness and beatings and accidental shootings by lawenforcement,delapadated schools and black sewer rats make it a sure thing.elderly and disabled people know they will be the first to go.they have to many hateful vermin and rats against them to survive.while some whites don’t have enough patience to wait,most of them are just sitting around and wait for blacks death numbers to rise. So this is not a big deal because it has been coming for a long time and has finally arrived. The blacks living in the fantasy worlds are also part of the problem, they are helping the white racist along with the so-called black republicans who are helping in the destruction of as many blacks as they can,they are nothing but dog s**t and belong in the alleys of america.

    I am behind my President 300% I am amazed that AMERICA could support a Back Stabbing Azz hole like G. Bush but want to complain about President Obama. Thats Right President Obama Not Obama He is our President and will be one of the Greatest of all time. The truth is that President Obama has been in office for only 8 months and has done more in that short time than G. Bush did in 8 Years. This Great Man had the nerve to want to straighten out this Crazy economy that the Bush gangsters got us into. I stand behind our President 300% And I’m not afraid to stand up for him.
