Morehouse President Responds To Dress Code Controversy

From The Daily Voice:
Under fire from critics inside and outside the institution, Morehouse College has clarified its new dress code policy.
In an e-mail message to alumni, college president Robert M. Franklin defended the new policy as an outgrowth of a two-year effort and denied charges that the new rules — which prohibit gender nonconformity in clothing — resulted from homophobia.

“Since the policy was released, a lot of attention has centered on the standard that prohibits men from wearing women’s clothing on campus,” Franklin wrote. “Some critics have concluded that Morehouse seeks to discriminate against certain groups of students, specifically gay, transgendered and bisexual men,” he said. “This is not our intent. In fact, we have worked diligently to ensure that Morehouse is a safe, inclusive, and respectful community with a strong commitment to social justice, diversity and respectful tolerance,” Franklin said.

Franklin’s e-mail message comes not long after Daily Voice columnist Frank Leon Roberts criticized the policy for “an egregiously heterosexist bias” and for its “deeply problematic class-politics.”

I understand his thought process on this. But the fact still remains if someone wants to dress like an a$$hole that’s on them. Yes as men we should dress and act as though. But that’s just how we feel, it’s an opinion and shouldn’t be imposed or forced on someone else. Besides the men that got scholarships, that tuition money has to be paid back. So with that said you should let adults be adults, bottomline!
Why does this guy have to defend anything??? Good for him, keep up the good work….Students, go to school and learn….let’s not just seek knowledge… lets also seek wisdom.
My two cents
i think that is great about the dress code black men need to step it up an dress like they r successful, to be somthing in life, why cant black men get it together, what do u need saging pants for an a grill , grow up ,
Yes, because that’s what being a Christian is all about, huh? Laughing at the “eternal damnation” of everyone that “got it wrong.” Man, sometimes, I hate even identifying as a Christian because some of us are so quick to drop fire and brimstone on others without remembering that we’ve got our own issues that we deal with. If we spent half as much time working on ourselves as we do pointing the finger, Christians would be dangerous. But, instead we scoff and judge “big sin” (like homosexuality and murder) and turn a blind eye towards “small sin” (like gossip, lying, and giving people the finger in traffic). So, thanks msveevee1, for showing these heathens what true Christianity is.
On subject, though, Morehouse is not doing anything to promote diversity or tolerance or any of that other nonsense. They’re image shaping, plain and simple. They wanna look a certain way to the public and they’ll do whatever it takes to make that happen, including making gay people look less “gay”, whatever that looks like…
I think the college’s administrators are doing a wonderful and courageous thing about putting up this rules and abiding by them. That’s wrong with this world and the ppl in it. They’re so busy trying to fight for their rights to be them that they think there are no rules to follow in this world. Regardless if ppl break the rules or not still does not give ppl the right to break them. The gay right folks just are so disgustingly pathetic, I can’t wait to see their faces especially on Judgement Day. By then it will be too late for them to realize that they’ve been making a fool out of themselves all this time. The look is going to be…priceless!
Makin the homo’s quit dressin sissy, is the only thing I agree with
