Absolutely this was in poor taste, but 1, he’s telling a story. 2, he’s drunk, and 3, he isn’t in uniform. As long as he does his job and conducts himself when he is on duty without prejudice, and doesnt spout out the “N” word… I say leave him alone.

It is disturbing to watch this. This is primarily an issue of judgement and decency. I don’t want to think nor can I accept that this is the norm for police officers as some have suggested here. If this officer is not capable of better judgement then he is not fit for his line of work, period. If he does not have the decency to resign then firing him would put an exclamation point to his abhorent behavior.
For those of you who want to excuse this kind of behavior I am just as perturbed by your posture (or should I say posturing) as I am with the original offense. At a minimum you lack a sense of decency and deference for the deceased and his family.
Bottom line, someone who packs a loaded gun in his line of work should be of superior judgement.

Anyone who doesn’t see anything wrong with this officers behavior says alot about your character. I believe that when you are drunk it gives you the courage to really speak your mind and this video really says alot. We as americans stand for anything and that’s why these cops continue to do and say what they please because they know that there is no consequences behind their actions.

The bottom line is that this is not unusual. If you think that cops don’t discuss cases and make fun of victims think again. What I do question is that if the victim wasn’t black, would this officer be just as insensitive? I believe that he may act differently if the victim was white. It’s not so funny when it’s one of your own.

we have cops at the school i work at…black cops who would do the same thing and have done the same thing. They used a taser on a guy because he was trying to break into a car. They called the dude names including n****r and to be honest some of the staff did laugh. They joked about it the next day. It’s uncomfortable being a cop just like military and it is a coping mechanism to joke about this stuff because it’s honestly not funny. Cops don’t have time to talk to a therapist every time they see something horrible so they create their own. Hell, I tell jokes about the crackheads walking all over town at the middle of the night like another society. Is it funny, no, but what can you do? I’m not a rehab person…humor is a form of coping and the dumbest thing this cop did was let someone record this. Now that’s stupid. I would also like to add that most of the video he was just talking about the funny stuff he has seen on the job aside from the murder. They did their job, they found the killer…justice was served. He shouldn’t be fired b/c a lot of cops would be fired.

I was at the scene of a dead 10 yr old boy, he had been shot in the head while sleeping in his own f**king bed! Nothing funny about it all, but you had to laugh to keep from crying, the boy had his arms across his chest as if he was laying in a casket, we all thought his mother did that! She told us that he slept that way because he never knew if he was going to wake up in the morning, and he saw a movie where a little kid was laying in a casket like that, he wanted to be ready! How morbid is that? Do you live like that!?

Ironically the guy who killed him had been standing in the crowd, he did not know he killed the boy, he lived directly across the pool from them. He had been cleaning his gun, when it discharged! He confessed over the phone to police dispatch, then killed himself in front of his wife and small child!!!

He is traumatized and has no other way of venting said stress but to make fun of a horrible situation, mad even funnier, because the guy shot in the head is laying beneath a malt liquor sign that says “Taking it straight to the head” Stress people!!! No one is of superior judgment! He was not in view of the family, until now, because another officer turned it in!!!

This guy is the just part of the reason nobody trusts the police to this day. I hate to say it but racism is alive and well in every police department across the globe. And to add fuel to the flame his buddy speaks to the camera man ands identifies him and himself. I feel all of should be brought up on charges. There is a such thing as a code of conduct in the police department.The fact being that this is the way of letting off stress. There are other ways of letting off some stress like the gym, go for a run or go to the department assign pyschologist. I watched the video 3x – volume on full 100% – and still don’t understand why this guy is suspended. Maybe I couldn’t understand his mumbling too well – but I didn’t hear any racial slurs or anything that the article author suggests.

What I saw was a drunk cop hanging out with his buddies – and letting off some steam. Was what he said “insensitive”? Sure. Since when is insensitivity against the law? What happened to the first amendment? The guy is clearly off duty and drinking in his spare time.

I can visit any local bar and hear dozens of “inappropriate” conversations going on – most involve what a patron would like to do to the sexy barmaid as she bends over to pull a beer out of the cooler.

Are we really at a point where we look for things to be hyper sensitive about? It’s these kinds of fabricated calls for outrage that distract from the REAL cases of discrimination that DO warrant our attention. We’re approaching the “cry wolf” threshold pretty quickly here…

I found this officer’s actions to be appalling and disgusting. He’s in a bar with his friends mocking the victim and the victim’s family that were at a crime scene. Drunk or not, how can he, as a police officer, act in that manner? And one of his friends posted the video on You Tube for the whole world to see and laugh at his mockery. They knew exactly what they were doing. It was sickening. How would he feel if someone made a mockery of him if one of his fellow officers were killed in the line of duty, or if one of his children were killed? I doubt that would be very funny.

The officer needs to either resign or be removed immediately. As a police officer, he is representing his department, his city, and this great country; and quite frankly, his actions were an embarrassment to all of the above. And yes, I’ve heard people say, “you have to understand what police officers go through every day, and they’re under tremendous stress…” And I hear that, but there are other ways to deal with stress, and if this is how you deal with the job, mocking someone’s reaction at a crime scene, then you shouldn’t be a police officer.

At best, this is a man who needs some psychological counseling to deal with the stresses he is experiencing at work. At worse, he’s a racist bum and a discredit to the men and women who wear the shield of law enforcement everyday and manage to do their jobs without publicly disparaging the people they are supposed to serve and protect. While there may be much debate as to which role – sinner or saint – the officer plays in the video, there is no doubt the true buffoons of this piece are the so called “friends” who stood around laughing while this guy made a complete fool of himself. Whether he was a good cop in need of counseling or a bad one who deserved a swift kick in the pants, someone should have pulled him aside and said, “Okay, dude, enough is enough”. That’s what FRIENDS do when looking out for their associates is more important than their own selfish desire to be entertained. Others just stand around encouraging them, which is what these idiots did (especially the woman next to him, who laughed at his every word and couldn’t help saying how much she wanted to see the pictures the cop had taken of the deceased man). Don’t blame the person running the camera – he/she did more for this guy and the community than those losers did because, thanks to him/her, the officer is either going to get the help he needs or be taken off the streets.

The problem with our society is that we hide behind our “constitutional rights” to justify our twisted views. I am a member of the Armed Forces of the United States and I remember once, while stationed in Korea, an older Korean guy told me that the problem they have with us is that we go around the world trying to “get the splinter out of the hand of others but haven’t taken the time to remove it out of our OWN hand.” In other words, he said, “You’re trying to police the world and your OWN back yard is a “garbage can” of hypocrisy, racism, greed, double talk and deceit. Additionally, he said, “The only time your country recognizes their “God” is when there is a national disaster, other than that, you
want nothing to do with him, and it’s laughable.” There were other things that he mentioned that were kind of “off to the left” but he made good points, earlier, I have to admit.

In response to Kewl_Beans – I was making a reference to what others would consider “inappropriate” behavior. This guy was clearly in a circle of other cops where their days events are discussed – and yes – even joked about. I can only imagine how much sense of humor is needed to cope with that job on a daily basis. Bottom line – cops are exposed to things others aren’t – and it affects their level of sensitivity. Just like a Pathologist who grows insensitive to terminal cases – or a social worker who has seen too many destitute cases to get emotionally involved.

Have you served in the military? I have and I’ve seen bloodshed. When you’re exposed to too much of it – it does alter your sensibility to it.

And let’s not forget that this guy didn’t show this behavior while acting out his duty. He was dealing with it in his way, over some drinks with so called “friends” who should’ve known better than to film and post this in the first place.

It seems that most of the people “outraged” in these comments though are more concerned about the fact this is a cop in the video – and are using this to channel their own hatred for law enforcement.

Okay Mr. “Kewl Beans”, you obviously don’t work in law enforcement. I do. Within each law enforcement organization, there is a department that falls under Office of Professional Standards. Those standards are to be adhered to in and out of uniform. I was also in the army and saw my fair share of blood and guts. I’ve seen life leave soldiers’eyes as they succ**bed to death more than once…I never thought it was a joke or a laughing matter. There are also resources available to military personnel and law enforcement to help them cope with these kinds of situations. I suggest this gentleman get some help. You’ll make excuses for his behavior until it’s your loved one. If one is in law enforcement and finds his/her compassion has gone, he/she needs to move on to another profession. Maybe you should look into some sensitivity awareness yourself.

People in sensitive professions make jokes, just like the rest of us.

I’m sure nurses, doctors, firemen, soldiers, etc all make jokes when amongst their peers.

Should he be fired? No. Is what he is saying offensive? It depends on the audience.

I agree with the one comment. If civilians made fun of and joke about a cop death, the fake-azz sympathetic public would be outraged. Like last month in CA when one lone dude who looked to weight about a buck/50 killed like 4 supposedly highly trained and skilled officers. I would have agree with the person who says this has nothing to do with race. It shows a drunk police officer who forgot about ethics. Yes, there are alot of people who work in sensitive professions that joke about their job because I’m one of them. Most people wouldn’t agree with what we do, but it is what we do. I have worked in the mental health field for over five years and if we can’t find some humor in what we do; the next thing you know we could probably end up being a patient. What I’m saying is if we took every situation that came along serious and let it get to us, what would happen to our mental state. I don’t have a problem with him joking about the case; I have a problem with where he chose to do it at, and who he chose to do it with.

After viewing this clip It comes to know surprise to me as far as the Officer actions is concern,What continues to take me by surprise is our response and reaction towards such ridiculous action, What surprise me Is how we as a people still believe that we will receive justice from a system that was built for our suppression and depression , how is that we only response when a white Officer step out side is his norm,into his beastly ways,? From a Black perspective I feel over the last 50 to 75 years the NAACP has wasted valuable time trying to force this system to work for us as appose to creating a system with in the system that would be built solely for the protection of our right’s first as Human beings,and second as citizens of the States,We must built our own Police force educated and prepared to serve us under the Constitution Of The United States, In order to achieve such goal we must separate from this unbalance judicial system that we are currently govern under as we prepare our selves to serve and protect our own. I have read several of the comments posted and I was taken aback by most of them. No, I do not think this is racism. Yes, it was insensitive of the officer to act in that manner in public. He is suppose to represent himself in a professional manner whether he is off duty or not. Yes, he needs to be reprimanded. That officer did not murder the young man, but he did find irony in where it happened. Before camera phones, you would have never seen this. You knew it existed but no evidence. Yes, treat people as you want to be treated but if you dont get the treatment you think you deserve, do you respond with violence? Not all cops behave in this manner.

My condolences to the family of the man and to what happened to him. The thing is to know, did the officer acted as a professional in the performance of is duty at the scene of the crime? do you know what goes true the mind of the officer when he his the first officer at the scene of that crime? well if there where no complain about that then, he did his job to the best of his abilities. What you see on you that recording is in private with his friends and what ever comments he made should have not being posted on here. it is not easy to cope with dead bodies then go home to your love ones and be as normal as ever. what you see was his way of coping with it in a bar and believe me, it is not easy. it have nothing to do with racism, that was just him and his way in is personal setting with his own people. it should have not being posted
