I think the Education secretary would be better served, revamping the educational system in the entire country. We need a serious overhaul of the entire curriculum that has been turning off black boys in particular, for decades!

A, I agree with you to a point until the overhaul of the curriculum. Beat the system at its own game. I think our government, local, state, and federal needs to just take a stance and pump the needed resources into the urban schools. Also, all male academies. One might argue but since the current strategy is to just send us and our youths to jail and prison, let’s create schools to educate black males about not only academics, but life, politics, the world, and more. Can you actually imagine if more black males were graduating from universities with degrees ranging from medicine, engineering, liberal arts, and more than being locked up. Now is the time to do that. Some may argue against this but I believe the percentage of black males in secondary institutions is about 30% compared to black women which is about 70%. (correct me if I am wrong) It is only my opinion.

@Jeffrey, I have been in favor of all male academies for years. I saw a story on CBS about the Ginn Academy (Ted Ginn Jr’s father) not too long ago and he seems to have a highly effective program! As far as pumping resources into the system, thats only throwing good money after bad. I’m rarely in favor of busting a union until that union appears to be part of the problem and not the solution. This appears to be the case with the American Federation of Teachers.

Our first black president has the time to go to a foreign country on behalf of his political mentor Mayor Daley but it took Obama 10 months (after a lot of outside pressure) to actually acknowledge something was wrong in an area less than a mile from his Chicago home?

is this only because it happened in chicago ? this kind of stuff happens all of the time. why all of a sudden the whole world seems to be mad about some one being killed especially in chicago. not saying people shouldnt be mad but if your going to jump hurdles make sure you make it to the finish line. it doesnt stop at the first hurdle.

The reason for the crime is not all male schools, programs or the government. Of curse these entities should do more to prevent the problems but the main problem is the parents. For the past 25 years we have had people having kids and not teaching or taken care of them. The people in the black community are the major problem. Girls are having huge number of kids by different boys who are not responsible. The kids have no guidance and no one teaching them right from wrong, self respect or manners. The people in the community need to step up and start taken control and being more responsible. The people refuse to even work with law enforcement to remove the crime element. So if you have a entire community that thinks like this how can you help them? Today kids do and say things that I would never think about doing when I was growing up.
