From Jack & Jill Politics:

“In your face, Haiti!”

*’Rascal’ in this sense, of course, means “mildly insufferable horse apple.”

Perusing the Twitternets today, I stumbled across this doozy from my man Kriss over at Insanity Report. He felt the need to put his shoe in hooper-turned-writer Paul Shirley, who spent a couple hundred words explaining why he will not be sending any money to Haiti.

Below are some highlights courtesy of Kriss, whose rant you should read in full because it really captured how I felt upon reading this tripe

I haven’t donated to the Haitian relief effort for the same reason that I don’t give money to homeless men on the street. Based on past experiences, I don’t think the guy with the sign that reads “Need You’re Help” is going to do anything constructive with the dollar I might give him. If I use history as my guide, I don’t think the people of Haiti will do much with my money either.

Wait. There’s more.

wow he’s a sc** bag and for the fact that i am a Haitian American . I take all the negative things have to say about Haitians personally. But what its alright because Haitian people are not beggers we didn’t go around asking people to donate money to them. They were doing it out of the kindness of their hearts. And they will greatly appreciate that. And to the ones that don’t donate its fine because when a tragedy hits your country or your life where you will lose love ones . Haitian people will be there for you in anyway you need them

What you do to others will be done to you~

My questions and what has had me pissed over the last week~ Is why are the people still waiting on the supplies and help that is already there?
Just yesterday (Jan 26th) MSNBC aired footage of the UN workers tossings out sacks of rice (after having the people wait for hours) and then before passing out all of the TRUCKLOAD of supplies (water/rice/beans, etc.) the packed up and drove off…now WTF is that about~ BILLIONS has been raised by people and corporations and there are still buildings crumbled ontop of bodies? People dying of minor injuries? Babies w/out milk and pampers? No water or food? Clean clothes? The basics? and yet BILLIONS are floating around…some shady sheet is going on!

Instead of playing games w/ the funds and the supplies the “powers that be” need to get their sh*t togther and help these folks. Not just help them to get back to normal, but to a place of health and stregnth and on the road to prosperity.

racist mutha f**ka!!! His teammates should kick his ass!

To me, the issue here isn’t his comments themselves, but how embarrassingly uninformed he is concerning the history of Haiti. Then again, he has had a masterful manipulator as his guide. The US Government via the media. He isn’t the first ignorant citizen they have produced, and sadly won’t be the last! His ignorance coupled with the fact that he was just on the court taking up space and providing breathers for the “real” players, makes him the perfect candidate for that all White league!

That just shows how stupid he really is. What he fell to realize is that just as God have brought you up, he can also bring you down! Don’t never think your sh*t don’t stink. What if that was him in that position? But I guess ignorant people can’t think outside the box.

After reading this long-winded and bigoted drivel, usually I would offer a snide comment on its author and move on.

But today, I will deviate from the norm.

Speaking for MYSELF, I apologize for Paul Shirley’s comments about Haiti. We, Iowans are known as being God-fearing and nieghborly people and these ridiculous rants don’t reflect us.

Shirley’s words are void of any blame to the European colonalism that created a society totally dependent on assistance from foreign nations. It is easy to throw poor, black people “under the bus” or rubble in this case.

Shirley wasn’t a quality, NBA talent. He came from a Big 12 school whose coaches made him into a serviceable player. He was very lucky that all of those 10-day player contracts reaped benefits. He wrote a critically-acclaimed book called “Can I Keep My Jersey” and earned employment by ESPN as a blogger.

Few people outside the Midwest cared to read Shirley’s blogs until now. He condemned a global humanitarian act and received more publicity, though negative, than at any time in his writing career. He profitted on the corpses of countless, dead Haitians. ESPN made a strategic move in firing him. And, they did so because they risked losing viewership and advertising dollars. It was the same case when they terminated “that fat, oxycotin addict” in 2004.

If some newspaper (Are you hearing me Des Moines Register?) decides to hire Shirley for another writing gig, they should expect a harsh outcry statewide. There are millions of white Americans giving to Haiti because they sincerely want to help. It’s not just black Americans pulling dollars out of their pockets. Shirley should wait this firestorm out and go back to his normal life of being insignificant in the literary community. Maybe, he will then understand what it’s like to be less fortunate.

Also, Paul Shirley played for the Iowa State Cyclones during the mid 1990s. His “teammates” won’t kick his ass. He probably gets that done to him by his significant other.
