By News One June 4, 2009 4:20 pm
From Jack & Jill Politics:
Obama’s hour long speech is landmark of course. Certain parts of the speech on Palestine vs Israel, terrorism, democracy and women’s rights are going to get the most attention. And ok, I guess that’s cool. What you won’t hear people on TV talkin’ bout are the actual, practical, on-the-ground things that Obama announced that he plans to do to build bridges between Americans and the rest of the Islamic world to increase the peace.

ok..there is opinion and there is educated opinion..i prefer the latter in all cases…Someone speaking negatively just to speak…and brings no valid points should be hung…imho. Now, shyscorpio1…how has he sold us out? What promises has he broken? Do you know how to make 100 huge promises and keep them in 6 months? if you do then you need to be king of the world. Even a king, who has total control over his kingdom can’t possibly fulfill all promises. Are you going to turn on Jesus as well? Wasn’t he supposed to return? Wasn’t there a specific time frame? People still believe in him..right? If you can’t figure out how the American Government works, then you definitely need to stop watching television and just get on with your life. Everything doesn’t happen in 1 day. You can’t fix everyone’s problems in one day…hell you can’t even list everyone’s problems in one day. 3 party government makes sure that even though there are promises…that it serves the best interest of the MAJORITY of the people. Sometimes what you promise and what is set out in front of you, may not be the best of plans….so you have to go back and take a different approach…modify your plans…but it is obviously that people thinking things are going to change overnight are a bunch of idiots…Obama is a human…he smokes cigarettes…so he is no saviour…give him a break…this is a democracy…so if you have a problem with something…speak up…you can change laws..easily if you get a petition…remember proposition 8 in california? People do it all the time…don’t sit here and wait for your congressman to make a law you don’t agree with…make them and vote on them yourselves…this is a democracy…VOTE..go to townhall meetings….sign petitions to put bills on a ballot…that’s how democracy works…cause if you don’t do it then the people representing you will.
Obama is the Man!! The Man with a vision, not only for America but for the World. Unity, peace, etc. are all of the high ideals that he promotes. Should he promote lower ideals? What better ideals to promote than the ones he expouses? We have seen the past results of all other approaches save a theocratic one. Those past approaches all lacked the vision that this approach has. And remember there is power in speeches to motivate people and nations to push towards those high ideals after the terms of presidency and even after death. So while recognizing that our president is still learning, we also recognizing that he is making all of the right moves. And we will continue to back and support our president. Peace be unto you.
OMG the man hasn’t even been in office for 6 months, and you all are commenting about his promises, he’s in a learning phase, and also tryying to push fo rthings he believed needed to chg, for example creating a balanced trade agreement, that isn’t going to happen so quickly there are politics beyond your understanding he has to dance around to get things to change and be effective, look at how long congress held the decision for the stimulus package, like other’s have stated there is a system of checks and balances, I voted for him because he had good ideas that needed to be voiced on my behalf and brought forth to congress. Look at the positives, the man is trying to rebuild the bridges that have been neglected and/or burned, where the acknowledgement for that. Our relationships with other countries is important since most of out needs are supplied by importing. i could go on forever about the ignorance displayed here but I would need to write a book. Just give the man some time and stop being such an american, no one, and I mean no one can snap their fingers and a solution appears, if that was the case we wouldn’t be having this discussion in the first place. @ Shyscorpio1: Whoever you vote for will never live up to your expectations, partially due to the points Sista_Bonita and ThaM8 posted. I do have a question for you: since you don’t trust politicians, what is your ideal government and form of government rule?
President Obama’s speech is idealistic. He’s an idealistic guy. That doesn’t work too well in a system when he only has 8 years max as president, where there and checks and balances. The simple reason is this: because whatever progress he makes as president can be undone by the next one. This past election showed how results affect voters: bad economy, never-ending wars, and other issues turned every voter, except for the die-hard Republican, from the Party of Bush. Point being: if results aren’t fast enough for the American people, they’ll turn their backs on him and the Democratic party during future elections.
i hope he turns thehole world to MUSLIMS
New face to the same old game. If you dig deep enough you’ll see that presidents no longer really have a say so in what gets done, they just fill the seat and wait for permission from those to act on 1 or 2 promises that got him the spot and anything eles you can write off as a no go. Let him actually try and do his job and he’ll be a spin-off of the JFK episode.
Politics is a tricky game. Obama is not perfect and will not solve all things. He will not meet all of his promises because it is not humanly possible. He has not been in office that long. Change takes time and I feel we are moving in the right direction considering the way we left 2009. His speeches are more idealistic than most but id rather our president strive high than take a more conservative approach. I feel this way because most people who highly dislike the US government and people have not heard such talk of collaborative efforts from our prominent leaders in a while. They have not been given the opportunity to even think it is possible. All of this is helping.
this aint the guy i voted for!!!
i dont know what happened or if somebody got his balls in a jar or if the money was TOO good but i feel he has broken so many promises that i dont know wo he is anymore. great speeches, little results. has he sold us out or is he doing the RIGHT thing by listening to the same croonies that ruined the world in the first place! i thought he would have known better than this. he has sold us and the world out and i am very disappointed!!!
DONT TRUST POLITICIANS NO MATTER HOW GOOD THEY LOOK OR HOW GREAT THE SPEECHES ARE!!!
