Surprise surprise…What the hell is there to be ‘thrilled’ about? When will everyone get off of this Obama=JESUS type mentality! He is NO DIFFERENT than the other presidents before him…the man said he was going to come in and try to make some changes with congress/senate…NOT a magic wand…

So proud that our country even voted a Black man into the Office of the President of the United States. It’s one of our greatest achievements as a people who were once stolen, enslaved and are treated as second-class citizens in a country in which we are born in comparison to the immigrants of Euro and other backgrounds who call this place their home.

My only disappointment is not so much President Obama’s effectiveness and accomplishments in his first year, but the resistance, racism and “white power” obstructionists in our Congress who have made his first year in office extremely difficult by not working with him PERIOD b/c their goal is to “make him fail.”

@WindChimes This obstruction/resistance you talk about is about party not race. Clinton, Carter (to speak of some recent democrats) caught hell from the Republicans as well. This is not to say that race is not playing role, I don’t know, but what I am saying is, it doesn’t matter that he is Black. NOW, Blacks need to stop using race as a reason (in this case) for the failures of Obama. The man played the same old tired political game, of over promising and under delivering, but for some inexplicable reason, Black folks thought it was going to be different this time. Like my friend from Cali states, Obama is no different from his predecessors so shame on all you blinded negroes for being hoodwinked and bamboozled once again!

Wow nightowl…you sound like a republican…i think the misconception is that black people did vote for him because he was black but also white people didn’t vote for him because he was black. Yet there are still others who voted for him because they believe that he could make a change and not because of his color so i think it is wrong to belittle the other people who strongly considered his platform and agreed with him.

I think he has done more for this country then Bush in his short time there and he has a lot of work to do to try to repair such a broken down country. They way you sound nightowl makes it seem like you believe that that crazy senator from AZ was going to do something different than the last eight years…which is definitely wrong!

I think the problem is not that black people fell for another politician it’s that this politician actually fell for his own hype. Everyone knew that black people were gonna vote for him regardless thats why the black vote is virtually irrelivent, its already factored into the equation. Lets stop lying to ourselves most every black person who voted for the man did so because deep down inside you thought that BECAUSE a black man is president that your individual circ**stance would get better, or at least you really hoped it would. I’ve always thought it was stupid for a race trying to fight to keep its head above water tie itself to one political party as if that party was created for us. Have to start with a few questions you can possibly clear up for me..1.Why is it that ANYONE black who doesnt agree with this president or his operation is automatically ‘self hating’? How about it is just my opinion of him based upon what I have read/seen/heard/learned. 2.How is a man, born of african/caucasian decent, raised in Hawaii, never had the experiences I have had in my life, seen by so many as a portrait of ME personally? He first would have to be relative to me for me to be ‘self hating’ to begin with, and he is NOT that. 3. What exactly is ‘vote accordingly’? Should I have gone out and voted for him because he shares a skin tone, LIKE DAMN NEAR EVERY OTHER BLACK PERSON DID? 4. Why do black people AZZume Obama and Dr.King in the same reference? EVERY elected official has received some hate sentiment at some point or the other, just because this one is black doesnt mean I jump behind his name in line. Putting Obama and Dr.King in the same faction is like putting a PINTO on the lot for sale with a CORVETTE…Just dont compare.

What brand of kool-aid or tea do some of us drink? I dont know if that was aimed at me so to speak, but I dont drink either…Kool aid is artificial garbage and tea, over time ruins the kidneys..I pass. I am expriencing absolutely no ‘disillusionment’ over the current state of the world because I didnt have Obama on a pedestal in the first place, thats where disillusion comes from..when one expects GOD like acts from a mere mortal. No, it is never alright for any man/woman and children to become a statistic as you stated, but growing up in the 70′s in the south put me in my fair share of danger as well and I didnt have the secret service walking me to school everyday either, my parents didnt have 30+ men/women armed and ready when they went grocery shopping in all white areas, when the four of us vacationed there werent security locked tight around us at Disney World. My point..Obama knew he was putting the lives of his family at stake, he as a black man has more protection for the next three years than any other black man will EVER have in his lifetime.

NO I never ‘rallied’ when the 3 strikes rule was in effect because I believe under certain cirkumstances, if you keep getting in trouble with the ‘law’, keep going to jail, you must want to be there. No I didnt protest when Reagan/Clinton/Bush2 were out sourcing….in part because I was too young then and IF you did rally against it…Tell me..what good did it do? Did SAYING something change the process? OR did they just start to operate with more discretion and secrecy? You bleeding heart rebels that come in here TALKING about what others need to do to change the world are so very unrealistic at times. Society/Gov’t is ONLY going to allow change when THEY allow it and at what meters of change. This is not a defeatest attitude on my part it is a REALIST attitude. Bottomline, I concentrate on ME and my children and my spouse. I educate them to the best of my ability. “do something DO SOMETHING” everyone is screaming…BUT WHAT?
