Prosecution: Baby-Faced Teen Admits To Shooting Girl

The mother of the baby-faced gangbanger charged with shooting Vada Vasquez broke down in a Bronx court Thursday as her son and his four cronies were tossed in jail.
Tears streamed down the face of mom Zelita Mighty when a Bronx Criminal Court judge ordered Carvett Gentles, 16, held without bail.
As an anguished Mighty looked on, prosecutors said Gentles had confessed.
“The defendant admits full participation in this crime,” prosecutor Terry Gensler said. “The defendant admits to being the shooter.”
The slightly built Gentles, who stood a head below the other suspects, was silent during the proceeding. His devastated mother refused to comment afterward.
About 10 blocks away, Vada remained in critical condition at Lincoln Hospital.
“She’s still laying in the bed, still heavily sedated,” sister Mandy Boodram said. “We’re just waiting until she wakes up.

If that is the case that the mother wasnt being a mother, thats fuked up…which happens to a lot of kids…they rairly have a father, some dont have a REAL mother to raise them and the street take um in with open arms..Not many kids can be brought up fuked up and become good people and get passed all that. I just wish that the jails and prisons really were for rehabilitation!! Seriously! But its not, just where u can get better at what u did before by talkin to other ppl who did stuff, or be so defiant for getting locked up, for being CAUGHT doing the fuked up shyt they were doing. People who get locked up, are going to be released at some point, they should come out rehabilitated, changed. And if they are, they get out with no jobs b/c people wont hire felons and if they get a job their job wont work around their schedule of checkin in w/their p.o. or they cant afford the classes they have to take when they get out..Lose Lose situation
You know what crazy is I read this morning and after the article they did an article about his mother its sad! Mom f*ck that dudes you swallowing focus on our kids the article was title “Me-first parents’ kids are spawn to be wild.” From what the article states she was so focused on her husband and his bull she let her baby slip thru her finger! Its easy to try to come a conclusion what the issue is, so many of us blacks have fallen wayward but the truth is, it isn’t that simple anymore.Some of the children and adults who commit crimes come from loving homes and homes that in the psychological sense are dubbed “normal”.
I believe it does take a village or a community to raise our children. In the societal sense, we as blacks were a collective community. I remember as a child and, I’m not that old, but if I did something bad by the time I got home I already would have received a spanking from almost everyone in the community. If I was on a bad street, someone in the community would tell me ” to get my ass home” and by the time I got there a spanking would have ensued. ( i don’t want to say whipping or beat down because I wasn’t a slave and my parents didn’t abuse me)
WE were once the people of mathematicians, musicians, artisans and leaders. WE had the richest lands and the largest learning institutions.
Soon we will be back in slavery if we aren’t now, and this time we won’t have anyone else to blame but ourselves.
I wish we would focus more on our issues, how to holistically treat our mentally ill, how to rehabilitate our youth and fallen men and women. At best, we can’t rely on a majority solution or a state or country solution because it overlooks us. I so miss the 80s. I miss Public Enemy telling us to fight the power and “please hammer don’t hurt em” and shirts and logos encouraging us to read a book,I miss those old women with there holistic cures who also fed the black transients and drug addicts because they remember they are someone’s child. I work in a library and all the blacks want to read is urban novellas and erotica. No one seems to want to pick up a book by Nikki Giovanni, Zora Neal Hurston or Toni Morrison.
Its time not to live in fear and silence and instead of letting jail and the grave take our people from us, take our people back from them.

Last night I attended a lecture given by Dr. Francis Welsing. As always she was brilliant and right on time. I especially loved her opinion that black people should not engage in sex before marriage and that women should wait until age 30 and men should wait until age 35 before becoming parents. Why? Because it takes about that long for BOTH sexes to mature. It takes about that long to achieve an education and have enough life experience where you actually have something worthwhile to pass on to the next generation. It takes about that long for a person to begin to have an idea of what is wrong with themselves and to be able to develop coping skills so that they won’t take it out on their children. It takes about that long to acquire the patience and economic stability that is required to rear a child. We have too many boys coming up with their own misguided concepts of manhood. We as a people have winked at “a lil somethin somethin” for so long that we’ve allowed are communities to become war zones because we refuse to define the boundaries which children so desperately crave. We’re too busy partyin and playin to see that we are losing the race war. We make jokes about the crime in our neighborhoods and brag about which city has the highest black on black homicide rate. We need to stop disrespecting each other, stealing from one another, gossiping about one another, littering our streets and murdering each other. Too many of us are clueless about what’s really goin on…As much as I hate to see a brother this young go to prison if he’s out there committing these types of crimes then I have very little compassion for him. But my true anger is at the savages who turned him into a n****r!
Yeah, “The defendant admits full participation in this crime” says the PROSECUTOR..and where did he get his information from?? The police, and we all know how they COERCE confessions. Im not taking a stand in this one because the article doesnt tell us a da*mn thing really, and I wouldnt dare trust my child hemmed up with the police. Now im not saying the boy is innnocent or guilty but the info provided is extremely random and non definite. I agree with the member that posted something to the effect of we as parents need to know where our children are as much as possible and for sure know who they are with as to help keep this kind of thing from happening as much as we can.

This is just an all out sad and tragic story. This is a message to any of us with kids. Know where they are and who they associate with at all times. The buck stops with us the parents.

Well. parents or not, it looks like he’ll do time. I wish there were some way other kids could learn from this and avoid this boy’s pitfalls. I hope at least that these young girls out here will think before laying down with some no-good thug who promises love and commitment but just wants the drawers and then knocks the girl up for bragging rights and refuses to participate in the child’s life, financially and/or and especially in nurturing. Im sure that’s how this young man turned out this way. Probably got fooled into thinking he had to learn how to be a man by hanging out on the streets with some wanna be gangsters.
This is why people should be allowed to discipline their kids without state interference (without physically maiming/mutilating/killing them). We give kids the same rights as adults, and they are NOT adults. They have their place, and its not the same place as adults. We have single mothers asking their kids what they want instead of telling them what they will get.

Who’s to blame, its the lack of parenting that stems from a lack of man/woman woman/man respect, which stems from the world telling you its okay to walk away from your responsibility, which in the end comes from a lack of GOD FIRST in our lives. We need to put God first in our lives, start having respect for ourselves, one another, our families, our kids and these things will not happen as often if at all!

I get very leery when I hear about so called confessions made by these children. These various Police Depts have a way of manufacturing confessions for publicity. Prayers out to the young lady and her family, and I hope for a speedy and full recovery.
