Bj24681357 – You can’t be this clueless, can you??? What if the historian told the white kids to chase the black kids and pretend to whip them? The kids would have had a ball cause they ARE KIDS and love games but the implications run much deeper. You cannot base whether something is right or wrong on the reaction of children, that is why ADULTS are around to monitor them. Geesh, what an idiot!!!

wow, this shocked me, although i guess it shouldn’t but it does show the ignorance that still exists today. Really? Historically correct. I think it would do a lot more good to show every child of all races exactly what type of work slaves had to endure to give them a better understanding. I also agree with doraindeville, if you are going to have people actually participate hire someone to do it, or ask for volunteers.

I first felt outraged about the black children being forced to perform as slaves.. but on the other hand… I betcha those kids are going to be grateful for what they have… cuz pickin’ cotton was NO Joke… that stuff is hard and hurts… back breaking labor…

But I agree… white kids should have had the experiance as well, so that they can understand why abolition and the civil rights movememtn were so important.

Sounds as though there’s more to the story. The lesson itself has value but a little intelligence, sensitivity and yes, common sense should have prevailed here. Selecting either all white children or a mix would have been more acceptable and would have eliminated the potential humiliation and backlash.
