Stormyweathers25, no, please do not misconstrue my last comment to justify or make excuses for slavery. My point was that the very common Liberal notion that whites must bear guilt and responsibility for slavery is simply wrong. Whites in Europe and America played a huge role in ending slavery (Civil War, West African Squadrons, etc.,) but admittedly, they also profited off the slave trade for 300 years. The point is that so did Africans, and Hispanics and Indians and Asians. Slavery existed all over the world, in every culture and every religion. Even in the United States, many people still do not realize that whites were brought here into slavery before Africans were, and that there were many African Americans who themselves were slave owners.

But you have made my point better than I did: What does any of that matter today. It makes for great history books, but it does not educate anyone, it does not give anyone a job. I could not agree with you more with the points you make in the second paragraph. How much better off would our kids be if instead of handing out condoms in sex-ed class, we had high school parenting classes that include actually having to be responsible for one or more children for a short period of time?

For most Americans, the average life span is 78 years, and the most common cause of death is heart disease, then cancer. Did I read correctly that the leading cause of death for black men 15 to 24 is homicide. Why doesn’t News One focus on this in a pro-active, positive outcome approach to an important issue for blacks. (Because they have not yet figured out how to blame whites for black-on-black crime.) Instead, News One (and far too many of those who comment) seems to prefer to further the philosophy that “scratch a white man and you’ll find a racist.” Nearly every story that I have read on this site is an excuse to attack or highlight perceived racism of white against blacks. And many of those who comment use those stories to excuse and vent their own hatred and racism. That is why I started commenting on these stories.

As I have said before, News One has a readership here that offers them an opportunity to help the black community. Instead, they seem content on fueling hatred within it.
