Roland Martin: America Needs “Marriage Counseling” Over Race

Washington Watch’s Roland Martin spoke to a panel about what dialogues about race have been looking like since the election of Barack Obama. While one white activist firmly stated, “We are NOT in post-racial America,” he agreed with Roland that continued conversations on this topic are necessary and healthy.

    THAT IS THE TRUTH!! Sorry in advance to the liberal, modern people that say ‘oh get over it, stop whinin’, but its the honest to goodness truth. I know for a FACT that when I have submitted a resume, received a call based solely upon my skills/qualifications listed, had a brief phone interview where I spoke with the PROPER english and was called in for an in person interview…I have seen some SHOCKED white faces when they found out the well spoken, articulate, educated, skilled young person they were talking to is in fact a NEGRO. (yeah I said negro, and what?). I agree the situation does need to be talked about, now is there a ‘solution’ for the ‘rift’…not hardly. But I dont think people should just go around and act like its not a big deal because there are interracial marriages, mixed children etc….Those instances alone do NOT mean that anything has gotten any better as a whole…

    experienced the same as CaliFemme23 some years back when i moved from west coast to the south for a few years. i’d fax my resume to a few places when running errands then there’d be a few messages on the answering machine when i got back home. scheduled interviews on the phone and the receptionist and interviewer would be shocked as h ell to see me.

    we gotta think twice about naming our girls Jonquil and boys LaVante.
