If you saw a sign on a window of a restaurant that said ‘NO blacks allowed’ and a white person walked up to you and said it in your face, both acts would bother you the SAME exact way. I totally agree with you DMY19151. Also, I’m not trying to show my age, but I went to Mizzou back in the early 80′s and there were hints of racism there back then. It saddens to me to a certain extent that this incident happened at a University that I once attended.

The reason why people keep doing immature/pointless crap like this is because we keep feeding into their energy. We’re killing ourselves, promoting stereotypes against ourselves, theres no emphasis on intelligence/knowledge/education and family/brotherhood/sisterhood/UNITY amongst the black individuals in this country. True there is intra-racial prejudice just like in any other group. However, this acknowledgement should not be used to diminish balantant acts of racism such as this one that evokes some of the darkest days of the Blacks’ lived experiences in the U.S.A.

I fail to see the huge issue here. I know that slaves use to pick cotton. OK, I acknowledge that. I would hope that it would also be recognized that not all slaves were black either. There were the slaves from England, Ireland and many other “white” countries. They were sent here as indentured servants, but in my book it is still the same if you understand how that is ran. You can be on your last six months to pay off your debt and be resold and now you have that six months and whatever your new own tacks on. That is slavery to me.

So keeping that in mind, they all worked in the fields, the cotton was not just a black insult. Really, at this point, it was stupid. I say clean up the cotton and stop looking for ways to divide the people!

Final thought, white people should no longer be hanging their heads low for something that happened before their generation. It was not our doing. It has been our generations that have been making the steps for equality to the point that there is a new inequality. Look around and you will see it. It is time that the blacks raise their heads high and stop looking where they can play the victim and see where they can play the role of a team player. I have seen many black step up and do so. They do well for themselves and speak volumes for their people. I would rather pay attention to them than those who are always in the victim role!
