White House Social Secretary Under Scrutiny Over State Dinner Crashers

On the night of the Obamas’ first state dinner, White House social secretary Desirée Rogers glided past the rope line of press and photographers at 6:53 p.m., pausing to boast, “We are very excited . . . everything looks great.” Little did she know that the evening would end up tarnishing her vaunted reputation as an overachieving perfectionist.

Virginia socialites Michaele and Tareq Salahi managed to get past Secret Service, proceed into the dinner — uninvited, the White House says — and pose for pictures with VIP guests and shake hands with the president. Now questions have been raised over whether Rogers, whose office drew up the guest list, was so busy basking in the limelight that she failed to notice what was unfolding in the shadows.

On Thursday, a House committee wants answers from her about how this could happen. A key question: Was anyone from Rogers’s office staffing the front gate? Even though Secret Service has accepted full responsibility for the security lapse, Rogers also has indicated that none of her staff was present when the Salahis arrived. As a result, her managerial style is under scrutiny. And her Hollywood persona, fairly or unfairly, could prove to be the most damning evidence of all.

    As far as I am concerned regarding the White House crashers Obama knows who really is at fault his Social Secretary Miss Desiree! She has to have a replacement for herself in order for her (Desiree) to attend the state dinner! Desiree was suppose to be standing with the Secret Service to check the list personally not to attend as a “guest”! The Secret Service are the fall guys to cover up for her mess! Obama has used his “Executive Powers” to keep the Congressional dogs off her dumb azz! If you or I… had’ve snuck into the state dinner and put the pictures on the internet professing we crash the party the Secret Service would have arrested us – therefore, The Salahi’s should be arrested and given jail time!

    It shows a lapse in security. It also shows a lapse in judgment on the couple’s part. Names should have been checked off as people arrived. I’m also assuming that people would have had to receive some type of invitation to get in. With this being the first black President, I was assuming that people would have been taking extra security precautions. The couple did it to become reality stars. They could have also had other motives and it would have really looked bad if anything had happened to Obama.

    Desirée Rogers is somewhat disturbing to me, she seems to go beyond her role of social secretary. You know the friend that always thinks they should get the lions share because they are your friends.
    Not doing your job while trying to show you have clout, is not a great idea! Miss Rogers wanted to be within the inner circle an boast of being there and The President could have been killed. Being the Bell of the Ball was her prime objective. All have stated according to White House Protocol the Social Secretary may be around the event but does not participate in the event no sitting for dinner and no invite, she is only there in her role, and that is not a guest!!!
    Now , I am being catty, the dress she wore was HORRIBLE and ill fitting. Michelle Obama was Beautiful dress and all. Do you think Desiree is trying to get to close to the President and forgot her place??? ( another mistress in waiting)

    She should be fired if she is also responsible for this breach. It makes no sense to have her or members of the Secret Service continue.

    Note: I also learned that the Salahis crashed the Congressional Black Caucus dinner this year. They actually sat at Obama’s table. Another guest complained that they were not suppose to be there. I don’t know what happened after the other dinner guest made the complaint, but if Desiree Rogers was responsible for the security clearance and co-ordinating the President’s attendance, she shows gross incompentence.

    to answer someones question i think she ran the chicago lottery awhile back and her and obama knew each other for a while now. she’ll probably get fired and those white people who crashed the party should get jail time but they won’t

    These people weren’t on the Guest List. If the Secret Service did their job instead of making an exception for a white couple, then the security would have never been breached. The Social Secretary has nothing to do with the Secret Service NOT doing its job. She did hers by creating the list and wasn’t required to be at the door. They failed in their jobs and what is their defense? “I can’t read,” or “They looked like decent White people.”

    Let’s see guests are giving invitations and there’s a invitation list matching the names of guests whom have invitations? How hard is it to verify the list? Why was these white people allowed to proceed when they wasn’t on the list? And if there was confusion because their names were’nt on the list then still why let them proceed?
