MLK’s I have a dream speech was about civil rights for all people. He wanted all people to live in a nation that did not judge them because of their skin color. His march on Washington has great significance in history because he was able to unify people of different races and genders and open the doors to many people. Those people who participated in those marches went through hell just so that future generations could have what they couldnt obtain. Think about it….What would your life be like without the sacrafices of those that participated in those marches.

Beck clearly knows that this event has taken place for years. He could have chosen a different date and a different venue, but he deliberately chose a date and venue that had great significance to more people than he will have at his function. And oh yeah I never called Beck a racist….I only said his actions are adding fuel to the fire.

@Lexistyles “Ignorant” is used in it’s classical definition, not the slang. My comment had nothing to do with an opposing view to mine but rather some of the comments here that lack much logic. I also asked people if they even know what MLK’s legacy is, while they sit here and vehemently defend it. One, some just love trying to come at me, but most importantly I KNOW MY LINE OF THINKING is different than most here. MLK was constantly evolving. If you listen to this man in the latter part of his life, his focus WENT from Civil Rights to HUMAN RIGHTS. He realized that he was being USED by Kennedy and then Johnson to placate the anger and frustration brewing in the black community, and also as an opposition to the “revolutionary” movement out there. As MLK started to see this, you can LITERALLY HEAR his focus change. He started to see this fight was much bigger than lunch counters and water fountains, but rather between the haves and the have nots and his speeches and actions reflected this new vision, and this I contend was the reason for his assassination! This is actually newsworthy for the same reason Bull Connor and his waterhoses were newsworthy. What Glen Beck is doing, and the demagoguery that is gripping this country (from xenophic fear of Mexican “anchor babies” to the “ground-zero” mosque uproar) is something that should not be shrugged off. What he is doing, and those like him at FOX, etc., is stirring up a dangerous hornets nest—that is, they are hoping to scare and terrify disgruntled white people. As we have seen with Healthcare, the economy, etc. this steers the political debates in this country over the edge into absurdity that affects our REAL EVERYDAY LIVES. Simple example- Why is the economy still sliding into chaos? Its because people like Glen Beck and the right wing convinced Americans (mostly white) that despite what most economists say, you shouldn’t stimulate a weak economy, and the monies would just go to help underserving peoples (black, latino, so-called “illegal” immigrants, etc). So the Obama admin and the Democratic Congress, bowing to this pressure, passed a weak stimulus bill—just enough to maintain things for the time being, but not enough to make any *real change.* That’s how rhetoric becames reality. Before I jump on the “Democrats haven’t done much, but pacify” bandwagon, I would like to say that this article for as much press and attention is getting doesn’t shed any light on the topics that need to be attended to such as the article highligting the fact that despite many witnesses in a case of Troy Davis coming forth and ADMITTING that they lied under oath to convict him and he still is facing the death penalty. We can even say that _A_’s comments toward the High School in Los Angeles that costs more than the Chinese Olympic Stadium with the layoffs and potential layoffs of teachers in more than half a dozen states… or even how about the Oscar Grant trial in which there was NOT ONE Black Juror and held in a different district than the crime and he was given a MAXIMUM sentence of only 2-4 years for murdering a Black man that was already held down and restrained.

Now as far as Glenn Beck and Sarah “Pain in my ass” Palin go, they are distractions, however as far as distractions go, they do have a lot of backing from ignorant American populace for no other reason than manipulation of intent and slander. This rally is nothing more than a ploy to get the Black community hot and bothered over the situation when the legacy of Dr. King, while far from realized, will not be defaced, altered or even forgotten that easily. Honestly, Dr. King’s legacy, which was stated even by himself at one point, was perhaps a mistake as we have integrated ourselves within a burning building and only suffering the same death as our oppressors. Funny though as many will sleep with, love, marry and defend these oppressors til their dying breath only to realize later that they did not feel the same way back.

There needs to be an awakening, a revolution of intense magnitude, but my fear is that this will only continue to get worse before it gets any better.

Genealogy is a broad topic and for now I ask that we not focus on rocking that ship although I am a black women by rights of my roots and only due to assumption I believe most that have posted are black , I try to state the common factors be cause they are stable and can be built on. I would just like to say after the debates are done and the smoke has cleared why is there never a list of solutions highlighted? I challenge everyone that has responded to this post to think of as many solutions when these topics arise and then post them.

As I have previously stated my thought of one solution in my above statement:
Find what is common (most of us are black) and build on the common factors, find them and bring them into the light, sort the personal difference with each other among each other through messages, respectfully, (this is not a issue of matching wit this is a issue of the lack of unity amongst blacks) if your intent is truly to uplift that should not be a problem.

One thing that I do as a individual is research a person before jumping on the bandwagon when it comes to supporting them. I have learned things that I did not know about Martin Luther King that many may not know one is that he was cheating on his wife with a white woman so after reading that it put things in a different perspective. Besides if he was able to come back to earth for one day he would be sadlydisappointed by what is going on in todays time. He fought so hard to get things to be equal for blacks and now look at where we are as a race. Some of us rather rob and take from our own instead of respecting the hustle and encouraging one another. Some ar e riding around with Tropicana fruit logos and Boston Bake Beans on their car. Instead of taking that money and investing it for something that they can benefit on in the long run. When some blacks hear the word entrepreneur they act like that word is in the category with Aids. We as a race need to sit down and gather our thoughts and find out what is important to us in life and make changes but saying that is like saying again 20 years ago. It is easy for some to talk to the talk and never put forth effort to walk it. As for Obama he is simply one man just like Bush was and it amazes me how ppl expected for this man to come in and make drastic changes overnight when we all know that it took Bush two terms to f**k things up. For those that feel like he is not doing a good job then perhaps those same ppl need to try and run for the position and see how much they can get done in a immediate process. No one ever said that Obama was God and that by doing the I Dream of Jeanie blink he was going to be able to make everything right. I think “white” it too broad a term. You have rich whites and poor ignortant whites. Beck appeals to the dumb whites not white corporate managers who hire illegals and boost their revenue or “outsource” jobs to other countries while they pretend to care about working class white America.

Mr. Beck could never SPOIL THE APPEARANCE (thats what defacing means) of MLK so let him rally for this should foster unity among black people, and then maybe we will wake up and see that we have to be more united to face them. As soon as I read what Glenn Beck had done, the first thing that came to my mind was: Glenn Beck’s stunt is akin to Dr. Laura Schlessinger’s repetitive use of the “N” word. Maybe they just want to play homage to something everyone uses, and, as many have pointed out … the use of which is already corrupted. It’s not owned, Beck points out, and his logic sucks.

Forethought went into Beck’s stunt, his intentions aren’t wholly admirable. This is just some of what we’re going to see over the next few months … and there will be those thinking that Whites are attacking them. The current administration is the target here, and how else to fight but below the belt?

Maybe Beck will become born again.

Did you happen to see the BLACK Pastor the Glenn honored today? Guess not. Dr. King’ s, (who was mentioned in the “faith” portion of the rally) vision was for all people not just black people. That is the point Glenn Beck is trying to make. Why are we constantly making race an issue? We need to stop the madness! And just like some prior posters have said, when we as black people stop killing each other then maybe we can unite on REAL issues i.e. absentee fathers, the breakdown of the black family, why our young black men are not graduating from high school and not seeking higher education. We need to concentrate REAL issues and less on Glenn Beck who is trying unite this country under one covering, GOD!
